Despite everything I think saying “I’m adjusting my priors” is fine. Yes, it just means belief. But it’s a word for belief that reminds people that 1. beliefs come in degrees, and 2. evidence should always shift your confidence, even if it’s just a little.

@autumnpard I think historically the left has been very pro material comfort, but there’s a conflict with some types of consumption, especially “luxury” consumption, since it’s often (correctly imo) seen as motivated by a desire to signal belonging to a higher/superior social class.

@summerpard I think some guys fall into a psychological loop where their frustrated desire of women transforms into anger at women as a defense, which then makes them even less attractive to women, and on it goes.

Thought a bit more about this and concluded that it’s not only charming but important. Transgressive irony-poisoned meme-politics where caring about stuff is a joke loses to serious patient sincerity. Feed the trolls until they choke.
@adrusi Definitely agree that this is a recurring blindspot but in many cases I find it sort of charming. "Oh, you think [obviously evil thing] is actually good for [obviously bullshit reasons that change every week]? Here's ten thousand words of inescapable obviousness."
