@xychelsea "Actually 1/144" how. How do people take that angle on this. I get approached by someone, one in twelve is going to share my zodiac sign. The question is not "what are the chances you pick 2 random people and they are both sagittarius".

“The problem with switch statements and if/else chains” is none. They are perfectly fine. Don’t get gaslighted into buying books that will lead you to overcomplicate your code.
The problem with switch statements and if/else chains is that they replicate like gerbils. If you aren't careful to sequester them in the early stages of your project, you'll find them reproducing in every corner of your application.

@business Good, but no, it’s still too easy. The Airbnb business needs to die completely before cities can start healing.

@JustinBGalloway @JoshuaPHilll @McClellandShane It’s not, by a long shot. It’s not even close or comparable. And no country on Earth is or has ever been “over-woke”.

For this year's Advent of Code I'm 100% doing OCaml. Reasoning: as a CTO I chose my technologies based on how happy its users appear to be. It's why for example I dropped webpack, or why I adopted @htmx_org. It was between Rust and OCaml but the OCaml people are happier.

@Carnage4Life They would be. misguided, to say the least. "Being alive" is not a high bar for a company. If this company were still publicly traded, it would be easier to measure the amount of wealth that Musk destroyed. How happy would "any company"'s shareholders be about losing 80% value?.

@realGeorgeHotz What is more probable? That “nothing got built” because of “SJWs”, or because increasingly oligopolistic tech giants are stifling innovation, killing emerging companies in the crib and funding stupid pet projects of their founders?.

@musicpaladin @ZoeSchiffer Board has a fiduciary duty to maximize shareholder profit. Not forcing Elon Musk to go through with the deal would be in breach of their duty. That’s how capitalism works. Don’t like it? Fight it.

@alexeyguzey 4 hours*. Company of 20 people, today we used it for thousands of conversations. We are aggressively trying to replace most work functions. Interestingly, coding appears to be by far the hardest thing to replace.

@RichardGarriott not sure if this came with the original UO boxed set or with T2A. When UO came out I was in 4th grade and I made an elevator pitch to my parents about what the Internet was, what this game was and why I needed a subscription to both. My dad ended up playing too.

@LolOverruled People will cheer for this but literally despise socialized medicine. That surgery is free where I’m from: I don’t know of a single person who doesn’t get that procedure because of the medical bill. It’s free for everybody who needs it.

@AdamRackis I've recently built a login for a Slack-like multi-tenant SaaS with magic-link login using @htmx_org.It's unbelievably smooth and it's taken a couple of days. I have no idea how much time it would have taken me with any frontend framework and how many more bugs it would have.

@htmx_org I'm pretty sure if HTMX was advertised as "a new form of JSX syntax" designed to do "React Server Components in any language and fetching them from the frontend", the React crowd would eat it up like pbj toast. They are used to full API rewrites, they wouldn't suspect a thing.

@andrewedstrom It’s worse, not better. The thing is, people used to work at a company for 10+ years. So you had time to hire promising talent and nurture them over a lifetime, practical skills of immediate use were less of a concern. Now you hire knowing the guy will hop elsewhere in 2 yrs.

@rust_foundation This is beyond stupid. The success of your language depends upon two things: good developer experience (never rename packages) and not putting wrenches in the wheels of open source developers. This gives you zero benefits for a whole lot of hurt for you and your community.

@tragic_maverick @otter_weekend @school Teachers are adults with agency. Kids are kids. How can you talk about education with any sort of credibility and put kids and adults on the same playing field like they are peers? They are not. Kids are second class citizens and they are punished for it constantly.

@AdamRackis Arguing that one should use the right tool for the job is not the same as pushing for compromising ux. React is not the best tool for every job, same with htmx. Also the “by itself” does a lot of work, can’t be just ignored.

@jherr @bronifty @kentcdodds @rajeshdavidbabu It's absolutely not "weeks of work" and it's definitely not "tech debt". Implementing auth(&auth) does take about as much time as integrating whatever third party auth service you might want to use.

@maietta @CodeMentorUK HTMX user here. You do all your website with any server-side technology (Django, Laravel, Go+templ, whatever) and use HTMX for quick, easy and ergonomic client-side interactivity when needed, re-using your server-side HTML-rendering layer, skipping JSON.

@somerandomblac @theshelfables @theRazbuten @MarrizzyRiviera “You lose nothing” is delusional. You lose immersion. Developers visually screaming at players absolutely breaks suspension of disbelief. I’m all for accessibility but pretending there’s no trade-off is disingenuous.

@lopp Disregard, join Nostr. Everybody is having a ton of fun. It's a cool club with some exceptional people. That being said, don't use web clients, or treat any private key as throwaway. Also, clients will improve in time and right now it feels nostalgia trip to the days of mIRC.

@ChShersh @techsavvytravvy 10 to 200ms is a hell of a lot of time. If it's actual compute time (like synchronous server-side rendering) it also means your compute costs go up 20x. You are going to recoup the three months of engineering costs in a few weeks at most.

@tvaziri I’m the average consumer: why should I know / care? If it’s a frame from the movie, it looks like shit. If it’s for marketing, it’s bad marketing because it looks like shit. Who does this serve? The deadlines?.

@AutismCapital @amasad I think it's the other way around: the human can do the busywork of setting up the company, or paying someone to do it. Same as taxes. The AI does the actual work. You can open a consultancy business where you just forward customer prompts to the AI, put the answers in a pdf, 💰.
