This guy seriously needs to stop acting like he knows church history. It’s so embarrassing. St. Athanasius did have some conflicts with various popes during his lifetime, but he never denied papal authority. This is what happens when you let prots guide your church history.

Why do Catholics desperately want me to devour & consume my own God!? I'm not doing it! That's pagan! "Theophagy"--the consuming of one's own god--is a pagan ritual that religions like Mithraism practiced, whereby one would "consume" their god in order to obtain its power. 🚩

@Truth_matters20 Idolatry, is when someone treats something as a deity or sacrifices any form of material to said “deity.” With Catholics, we treat statues and icons as objects of veneration. But not deities. The theology is deep, so a simple tweet like mine here can’t explain it in full.

@Truth_matters20 The golden calf had incense burnt to it, and they treated it in a way that was like unto another god. Mary is in no way attributed to that characteristic. So when we pray to Mary, we simply ask her for intercession. Praying is asking for things. Worship is to give high praise

@Truth_matters20 Worship and prayer are two different concepts. But if they worshipped, yes. It absolutely would be. If they simply prayed to him though, I don’t think it’s idolatry. But he’s not canonized as a saint. So there’s no reason to pray to him. Therefore it’s sacrilege than idolatry.
