Idolatry, is when someone treats something as a deity or sacrifices any form of material to said “deity.”
With Catholics, we treat statues and icons as objects of veneration. But not deities.

But if they worshipped, yes. It absolutely would be.
If they simply prayed to him though, I don’t think it’s idolatry. But he’s not canonized as a saint. So there’s no reason to pray to him. Therefore it’s sacrilege than idolatry.

Idolatry requires sacrifice and worship to a deity through a relic or image.

Sola scriptura was the first thing to go that opened my eyes to the truth of Roman Catholicism.
Once that doctrine was unbiblical it made me realize there’s more to it than *just* scripture.
Further, many hold to that doctrine and cannot agree on the fundamentals.

Well for starters we have the completed Bible. Sometimes referred to as the “Apochrypha.” Or the “lost books.”
We have centuries of apostolic interpretations that went through extensive and exhaustive theological study.
We also have succession.

The main one is because sola scriptura is unbiblical.
Once you realize that’s unbiblical, the house of cards begin to fall. Then you begin to realize truth doesn’t stand only in the 73 books of scripture, but rather the church as well.

That is incorrect, Paul’s epistles and peters epistles yes, but not the gospels. Because many gnostic texts sprung up and were candidates for canonization.
The church had to figure out what was truly inspired or not.
