Reminds me of an interview I saw with Alfred Hitchcock. He tells how, to help his daughter doing a film course, he wrote an assignment for her on... the film work of Alfred Hitchcock. And received only a 60% mark for it. 😂

Damage to a road surface is proportional to weight cubed - we learned that in civil engineering 2nd year.
So, if a truck weighs 10x as much as a car, it causes 10^3 x as much damage. ie 1000x as much damage!
We desperately need more rail, to save our roads from truck damage.

It would cost 'only' R2 billion to install 100,000 solar geysers (at R20k each), which may be the cheapest fastest way to reduce load on the grid - since these reduce home's power consumption by 50% or more! Let's do this!
@OUTASA
If we think about how much tax we pay in SA... VAT, excise duties, income tax, not forgetting property taxes, capital gains etc...
then it becomes clear that even a small contribution to OUTA each month is such good value for money!

But nothing beats installing a solar geyser. They cost +-R15k, but can save you R5k/year, for 10 years+. A 30% return on investment, much better than the bank!
Spread the word - every new solar geyser is a win for SA. Less demand on the grid = less loadshedding.

Great news, but the skin colour & gender of the owner should be of no relevance. (I know it is currently important to some, but looking ahead... we already know there's no race but the human race. Skin tone & sex should not matter)

Yes, eradicate pines in the water catchment areas.

b) above Clifton they actually stop fires, with the barren ground beneath them, & stop boulders coming down too.

I disagree. WW3 could happen. China is watching events in Ukraine closely, and this will strongly influence whether China invades Taiwan, & forms an alliance with Russia.

Many solar panels run on 22% efficiency. So 32% is about a 50% improvement - many solar farms could produce about 50% more energy for the same size installation. Incredible. Solar keeps on improving. (fyi

It's a start, but municipal officials need to be held personally accountable to some extent, otherwise the fine is simply passed on to the ratepayers!

Athlone should be the city centre in Cape Town - it's crying out for more development, is close to everyone, has fewer transport constraints, and then people won't have to travel so far to work.
@nickhedley
Nick - let's start with schools. They have:
a) large roof space
b) usually some security that can protect panels
c) larger installations than homes, so enjoy benefits of scale + simpler to connect to grid - so a good starting point
d) corporate sponsors might be keen to help?
