Educated females want educated males! This growing gap isn't good for anyone. Reeves expresses this imperative positive view of college + masculinity well.
& this article does a good job detailing the systematic problems males face in education:
Could monogamy have developed as... society's protection from unmarried males? 😬
If so... we've got a big storm a comin'... or is it already here...? 👀😭
Studies show promiscuous girls are *judged* by all... but *sentenced* by only one sex... 👀👩⚖️😵💫
"The sex difference [...] highlights the value of an *evolutionary framework*, which seeks to understand variation between male and female motives"
The
#SSS
: sexy-selfie strategy! 📸😜
"sexualization and appearance enhancement are markers of female competition, occurring in environments in which incomes are unequal and status competition is highly salient"
In the mating arena, girlies hate the players, not the game. 😕
"women who perceived desirable mates to be scarce, tended to view other women less favorably."
👀🔥👩❤️💋👨👩❤️💋👩
Is High Sex Drive Associated With Increased Sexual Attraction to Both Sexes? It Depends on Whether You Are Male or Female:
"for heterosexual women, sex drive seems to act as a generalized energizer of sexual attractions to both women and men"
Excellent paper detailing *why* resources influence female sexuality: decreased parenting costs
“across cultures, women’s increased economic access was associated with increased female unrestrictedness and a decreased sex difference in sociosexuality.”
Some more evidence of (male) incel attitudes that make me go "yiiikes"... 😬
"changes in men’s (but not women’s) positive affect due to dating popularity shifted men’s attitudes towards casual sex and the minimum wage and healthcare"
As Nicki and Beyoncé said "I'm feelin' myself..." and you 💯🔥👀
"the more attractive the woman believed her body was to others, the more oriented she was toward short-term mating."
Interesting that 91.5% of women reported "I am not good at flirting" when there's research that literally says
males tend to sexualize friendly female interactions even when they're not so it's like... sis you don't even have to try, just be nice lollll
Some large sex differences among single adults for reasons why they are single. Women are more likely to say "I am too picky" and men are more likely to say "I want to be free to flirt around."
Neither Hot Girls nor Incels like 'hypergyny': "women prefer[ing] mates of higher rather than lower status and wealth." 🙅♀️🔥🙅♂️❌
"Our models predict that opposition to hypergyny will be greatest among low-status men and very high-status women."
Hot Girls have haters too 👎
"adult women evinced behaviors and motivations paralleling those of *adolescent bullies,* including a willingness to tarnish the reputations of women who were otherwise innocent, but were attractive or provocatively dressed"
Study showing lesbians keep their love on LOCK! 👩❤️💋👩💞🔒
"mate retention behaviors are most frequent among homosexual women, followed by bisexual and heterosexual women"
The Evolution of Social Monogamy in Mammals:
(breeding) Females compete for high-quality mates ➡️
Females dislike each other ➡️ Females far apart ➡️ hard to jump from one to the other ➡️ Males must pick *one* to invest in... or risk losing both/all 😬
Girls don't just hate bc they're jealous; they're maintaining the market. 😠💰
"negative perceptions of the target with visible cleavage were driven by perceptions that she would lower the collective “cost” of sexual access by acting sexually permissive"
"a masculinized face indicated a more suitable long-term partner [...] a higher level of facial masculinity is preferred when environmental harshness stems from resource scarcity"
So in resource abundance, short-term partners could be preferred? 👀
Bad news for
#BrokeBoys
and
#RichGirls
😭
"the lower mating success of poorer men and richer women (when compared with richer men and poorer women) is worsened when resource gender gaps are relatively small or when women out-earn men on average."
👯♀️ differing in the ST:
"[2] distinct preference patterns among the females with regard to ideal [ST] partners: most women sought partners with better prospective social status and social skills, whereas a smaller group sought physical attractiveness."
As I'm driven to understand the evolution of mating, it's beyond encouraging to read 'Future Directions' sections such as this one which emphasize "[f]emale mating strategies are far from fixed, instead exhibiting high variability and context-dependence."
This article highlights the negative consequences of this growing educational disparity between genders: how an increase in less-educated males significantly impacts the choices of educated females around fertility and alters traditional mating dynamics.
Protect all women!!!
#NotAllMen
tho... 😬😗
"this asymmetry was driven primarily by women, but not men, being more likely to accept [Instrumental Harm] to men than to women across a variety of contexts."
Evidence that boyfriends and husbands serve different (provisioning) functions 🎁💰
🙎♂️Boyfriends more likely to gift hedonic goods (cash, clothing, bracelets/beads)
🤵♂️Husbands more likely to gift utilitarian goods (livestock, food, blankets)
Sex differences in exploitability: it seems females are worried they *might* be *perceived* to be exploiting while males are just hoping they can 😵💫😬
"cues correlated with exploitability would be linked with perceptions of sexual attractiveness"
@TheKeeleyComp
That's so interesting. Investments imply a return. And I think that's the impression I got from a lot of women when I did a Twitter survey on this.
When you think there aren't enough eligible bachelor/ettes in your area, you're going to be less picky... 👩❤️👨🤷♀️🤷♂️
"[A]mong single young adults who perceived a gender imbalance, mating motives had a significant and negative effect on mating standards"
more evidence of resources (social ones!) influencing female mating behavior 🤩
"socially excluded women displayed greater interest in short-term mating behavior and greater preferences for physical cues in men associated with short-term mating interest"
Dr. Muthukrishna is one of my favorite people I’ve ever had to pleasure of hearing speak. He talks about such complex topics in such an understandable way. It was an honor to attend his book launch at LSE! Can’t tell enough people to read this book!!!
Learn about the collective brain hypothesis in my interview with Dr. Michael Muthukrishna (
@mmuthukrishna
) about his great book, A Theory of Everyone.

"while gender may be one way to describe the discrepancy in *how* positive people feel following casual sex, orgasm *explains* it."
New paper proving the power + importance of femininity 💃💥
"cisgender women in the US experience increased anxiety, as well as reduced self-esteem, in response to threats to the femininity of their physical appearance."
Re-listening to the
@ChrisWillx
pod with Dr.
@KhandisBlake
again this AM... another point I strongly agree w/ is the advocation for the sexes to stop seeing each other as adversaries and encourage cooperation 💯⚤ Best way to do this (in the short-term) is collaborative convo!
As if your GF *admittedly* thinking you're ugly wasn't enough... 😫😬
"women with relatively *unattractive partners* are more likely to experience heightened sexual interest in *other men* when women’s *progesterone levels are relatively low.*"
More people = more planning
"High population density [:] increased competition for resources, which influences key trade-offs [...], promoting a preference for future over current reproduction, quality over quantity of children, and parenting over mating"
Modest is hottest!... for competition and retention... lol. 🙅♀️🔒🙄
"According to the ideological mate-guarding account of feminine honor [...], feminine honor culturally evolved due to the pressures of paternity uncertainty and intra-sexual competition."
Could FoMO influence mating? it seems so!
"American heterosexual adults higher in FoMO expressed a stronger desire to strive for status, compete with same-sex others for social and reproductive resources, & to devote more effort toward short-term mating."
This is all about *assortative mating*... males also don't prefer females more educated than them...
"For men, there is no evidence that they are more likely to partner with highly educated women. Rather, they are found to be living single more often."
👩❤️💋👩💏
Making love instead of war…
“same-sex sexual behaviour in mammals is a convergent adaptation facilitating the maintenance of social relationships and the diminishing of intrasexual conflicts.”
Interesting read by
@Aria_Babu
: “Beliefs that kill birth rates” — spoiler! it’s not about (economic) resources 😱
“if the World Values Survey asked whether “It takes a lot of work to raise a child well”, then we would find an even stronger correlation.”
Saying “the only role of the clitoris is pleasure” is idiotic, misogynistic, a denial of female sexual agency, and a trivialization of the importance of the clitoris to female health and quality of life.
For women who say “BuT pLeAsUrE sHoUlD bE eNoUgH,” a thread.
I had to pause this interview w/ Dr.
@KhandisBlake
because she's literally confirming a point I explained to the guys in my ev psych class today... females seek status as strategic INTRAsexual competition. within sex!! + girls signal status in diff ways!
Biology gives us our preferences... culture shapes them. 🧬💞🌍🌏🌎
"the formation of facial prototypes is dependent upon *environmental input* that is then processed by a *hard-wired natural, statistical, calculating mechanism in the brain*"
from ‘What future has motherhood?’ by Rosalie Rayner Watson (1932)
I don’t agree with everything she says but I think she hit the nail on the head with this take on why extended childhood isn’t as great as it seems…
I just had to post this entire section because the quotes beautifully describe resource influence on female mate prefs:
"Himba women's preferences show some support for dual-mating theory, but align most strongly with the multiple investors hypothesis."
Here's her paper that explains how females utilize beauty/attractiveness for strategic intrasexual competition (:
Attractiveness Helps Women Secure Mates, But Also Status and Reproductively Relevant Resources
Obsessed with the title of this paper: 🍞💰🍼
'Breadwinner Seeks Bottle Warmer: How Women’s Future Aspirations and Expectations Predict Their Current Mate Preferences'
Why provision? Not just for *his* genes 🤸💸👶
"men prioritize mate fidelity and current reproductive partners in investment decisions, but social obligations to past and current partners and the presence of other male investors also influence decisions"
i’ve only been doing it for a few days but… tweeting research as i catalog it has been the BEST thing for my memory. having to brainstorm one-line summaries (under the tweet limit) is excellent mental exercise and it’s FUN. 🥰🎉 why didn’t i start this sooner!?
@RuxandraTeslo
I don’t think this one is bad necessarily! It’s just the theme of the meeting to encourage risk-taking in our ideas. But also,,, this could be a bad (null) hypothesis idk 🤷♀️ I haven’t tested it yet… but I will! 🤓🤓🤓
even if the competition isn't actually fierce, just *thinking* it is will make you up your game.😼🏆👊
"the mere *perception* of mate scarcity will produce sexually competitive behavior regardless of the accuracy of that perception"
Resource influence on Bateman's Principles 💸👫👶
"the opportunity for selection and sexual selection are higher among men than women at lower levels of income, but at higher levels of income, men have lower opportunity for selection than women."
Once a cheater, always a cheater? Seem so! These numbers are crazy!
👎Past cheating: 3x more likely to cheat
😩Been cheated on: 2x more likely to be cheated on again
👀Paranoid about cheating: 4x more likely to suspect the next partner of cheating
Brother Husbands! 🤵♂️🤵♂️👰♀️
➡️When/Where/How?
"Non-classical polyandry seems to have occurred as a response to a *shortage of women* or as a precaution against the loss of a husband or father in an environment in which *men’s provisioning was critical*."
@BarbarousEP
I think what makes this paper interesting is the specific racial demographics of the county which provide an actual and perceived scarcity measure of the stated preference of respondents.
This paper uses one of my fav theories, Life History Theory, to show why more people = less babies 🙅♀️👶
"As population density increased over time within countries, fertility rates correspondingly decreased."
My money! My choice!
"*opposition to promiscuity* arises [...] where paternity certainty is particularly important and suggests that such opposition will more likely emerge in environments in which women are *more dependent economically on a male* mate."
"Sexual dimorphism, symmetry, and coloration in human faces putatively signal information relevant to mate selection and reproduction."
But which preference is strongest against all others? 🚺🚹❤️
Freya’s right! + I would argue that it’s not just dating apps that turn us into ‘disposable commodities.’ It’s the corporatization of society that prioritizes the needs of capitalism (production) over those of the humans who make it all happen. This mismatch is unsustainable.
Blaming men or women for the problems of modern dating is a distraction. Dating apps teach us to treat each other like disposable commodities. Social media rewards self-absorption. Porn warps expectations. Blame the billion-dollar industries depending on us being lonely consumers

: Trading fists for Twitter fingers 👊🤳
"As direct and physical competition is not viable within an online dating scenario, men suppressing the sexuality of other men may represent a form of non-direct competitive behaviour"
@MediClit
@taylorburrowes
i share the opinion that female libido is often misrepresented but more so because i don’t think the right questions are being asked. tbh i’m less interested in the *existence* of differing levels of libido in women and more interested in *WHY* those differences exist.
does anyone else fall *this* deeeeeep into a rabbit hole while researching things “just for fun”? or is it just my brain and it’s never ending questions…? 😅🐇🕳️
An enlightening + comprehensive overview of female intrasexual competition which... *spoiler!* looks very different than male intrasexual competition. 🤼♀️🗯💥
Unraveling the Intricacies of Women’s Mating Competition by Maryanne Fisher, Ph.D.
Research on this:
'He looks “easy” and she's not into it: Sexual exploitation cues and attraction.'
"women are particularly attracted to “good genes” indicators [...] but *overwhelmingly fail to report attraction to sexual exploitation cues*"
"Assortative mating is the process by which people of similar backgrounds, such as educational attainment or financial means, select a partner." This paper evidenced an increase in positive assortative mating over the past half-century using census info.
Realized today the language I’ve been using to describe effective education as “building on existing knowledge networks” is essentially the same as “building on mastery.” Here’s Sal Khan’s TED talk on Teaching for Mastery— Not Test Scores
This heart-centric conclusion was ultimately refuted by physician Galen who provided evidence for the brain-centric hypothesis based on his anatomical studies and observations of gladiators and animals in 130AD.
new paper details how extremists on the left can be just as self-serving as those on the right... even if they claim to champion social justice and equality. 😬
extremism is bad... on both sides! 🤯🔄‼️
"dark-ego-vehicle principle[:] indiv. with dark personalities–[i.e.] narcissistic and psychopathic traits– are attracted to certain ideologies and forms of political activism [used] to satisfy their own ego-focused needs instead of actually aiming at social justice and equality"

+ a lot of girls grew up warned by their parents to never depend on a man because of the patriarchal history of exploitation and bad dudes that gave all the other dudes bad names… at least that’s what my sister and I were told over and over and over again. 🫠
Been quiet on here the past week because we're in the final weeks of the semester and all I've had time for is prepping for my final assessments 🫠
I want to make sure I get as much done as I can before I head to Madrid for my winter break but also... I miss tweeting lol
Been grinding on polishing this essay all week 🤓
The quote discussed is “Psychology has a long past, but a short history”
My essay begins 70,000 years ago at the Cognitive Revolution of course 🐵🧠

Also, think about investing money in the terms of buying something. You spend money to get something in return. If the thing you thought you were buying isn’t what you thought… that’s considered a scam. So the pressure to ‘not scam’ guys is one I’m sure girls feel— ik i do.
Excellent talk on how intrasexual competition and preferences by our same-sex peers have a pronounced influence on the evolution of traits + how it differs from intersexual competition which focuses on traits desired by the opposite sex. 👏🤼♀️🤼♂️
In this talk*, I argue that the selective forces posed by same-sex peers likely amplified sex differences in traits.
*presented at The Big Conversation, which invited scholars studying sex differences from both evolutionary and sociocultural perspectives
@EvoPsychCoach
I have some thoughts on the paying on the first date thing… but I wouldn’t say mine come from a feminist agenda. I agree with your premise that it signals investment… but at the same time investment infers a return… and that’s the part that can be uncomfortable.
V encouraging to find academic talks that confirm my ideas...
In 'Cognitive Science Rescues the Deconstructed Mind,'
@vervaeke_john
details how interdisciplinary cooperation can tell us more than we'll ever be able to know alone.
Vid summary 🧵 below:
The essay is on how cognitive psychologists began to recognize the importance of incorporating the brain into their extended framework for understanding cognition. A prime example of the success that can come from interdisciplinary collaboration which I am a huge advocate for.
@EvoPsychCoach
Right but this also means the girl will want to parent with the guy… which is not always the case after a first date. That’s why you go on the first date… to see if you even like them. I think that’s where the disconnect is as well.
this is why i love studying evolution… look how much time we took to get here in this crazy place! and look how much crazier it is now than it always has been! and look how tiny the crazy portion of the timeline is!!!!!
