Directv Stream just announced a price hike. Hulu Live’s next price hike starts next week. YouTube TV just lost Disney and ESPN.
Meet the new boss; same as the old boss.
DIRECTV has been missing roughly 200 stations for 2 months in the biggest carriage dispute ever and it gets zero coverage in the national media. Spectrum, based in LA/NY, loses 26 channels and it’s the biggest story in TV.
HBO Max: Not sure which is more confusing. The name similarities to HBO Now and HBO Go, or the acrobatics required to find an app that works on the streaming device of your choice.
NFL Sunday Ticket: So far, so good. Excellent 1080p picture. No significant glitches yet. Multiple Multiview options. Still early but good start for Google.
This just in! We’ve heard your feedback about
@NFL
Sunday Ticket streaming limits and we’re excited to share that we’re including unlimited simultaneous streams at home for
@NFL
Sunday Ticket content, on both YouTube TV and
@YouTube
. 🤠

I was actually on the Donahue show once as a "TV expert" on the media's impact on real-life violence. Phil was very gracious on and off stage, coming back to the green room after the show to thank everyone for their participation. He was an icon and true original. RIP.
A reminder that ESPN is making a bit of broadcasting history today, sticking its announcers inside Meta VR headsets to call a fully animated version of an NHL broadcast.
Top X Accounts For Video Streaming
(Please forgive me in advance for forgetting some folks. Also, this is for the video streaming industry in general, not sports specific. I will post the sports media list next.)

I’m signing off Twitter for the night. Amazon’s TNF pix looking excellent from my perspective. 1080p for sure. HDR, not so sure. But bright images with vivid colors.
4K TV in a nutshell: Two viewers have exact opposite reactions to the same 4K broadcast.
This is common. Depending upon the device, provider, and Internet service, the picture quality can vary.
Rich says $35 a month.
I say $39.99 a month as a debut discount and rising to the regular rate of $44.99 after six months or so.
@sherman4949
says $45-50 with a possible debut discount.
Consensus forming it won't be cheap. Any more guesses?
Yesterday evening Disney’s ESPN, FOX and Warner Bros. Discovery announced a new joint venture to launch a sports-focused vMVPD in fall 2024, that we will call the “Winners’ Bundle." We are estimating a $35 initial price point escalating to $40 in year two, with Disney receiving
Happy 11th Birthday to my daughter, Lucy, who fills my every day with love, humor and purpose. I am so proud of her each and every day. (Not a recent picture; she would get mad at me if I posted a recent one.)
I want to thank all postal carriers, UPS, Federal Express, and Amazon drivers. I got all packages in time and in perfect condition. Merry Christmas, everyone!
How is the super bowl not in 4K?
@DIRECTV
what a joke!! People pay extra for 4K and there’s never anything on it!!! It’s the super bowl!! The biggest event in the world!!!!! But no

So I was diagnosed with Glaucoma yesterday, another example of life’s cruel ironies; the guy who writes so frequently about 4K TV gets a disease that can blind you.
But despite some irritating cloudiness in my right eye, my vision is still functional and…
Ongoing major carriage disputes:
DIRECTV vs. Nexstar, Mission, White Knight
Dish vs. Cox Media, Mission, White Knight, Hearst
Spectrum TV vs. Disney
Comcast vs. Imagicomm
BTW, when doing your YouTube TV Sunday Ticket sub calculations, take into account that a significant portion of DIRECTV's Ticket base is in rural areas with spotty or no Internet reception. They are not likely to switch over.
Looks like Apple and MLS are cracking down on free access to MLS Season Pass this year. Don't see any one month free trial offers, free games, or a free T-Mobile tie-in. Season starts tomorrow.
If they stay with this, it will be a realistic test of how successful it can be.
Cheap price and easy availability to a one month free trial. That’s how Messi boosted Apple’s MLS subscription numbers in 2023. Let’s see if they can sustain in 24.
Glaucoma Update: I’ve noted here a few times that I have the eye disease which is incurable. But the good news is that laser surgery has reduced my eye pressure in both eyes to 17. That means my vision shouldn’t get much worse if I can keep it there. (It’s about 50% now in the
DIRECTV: This month's lineup of live 4K shows is so weak that the satcaster hasn't even updated its 4K schedule page. Basically, it consists of a handful of English Premier League soccer games. 4K has yet to click, folks, and here we are talking about 8K. LOL
What’s wrong with Journalism, part 178:
DIRECTV pays Rolling Stone affiliate fees to write about DIRECTV Stream.
Magically, Rolling Stone then picks DIrectv Stream as the nation’s best streaming service.
Which enables DIRECTV Stream to promote Rolling Stone’s selection on its
Peacock dropped all its 4K labels on the app for several days. I’ve been asking why and whether 4K was done at Peacock. The labels are starting to show up again.
Hulu, which is owned by Disney, which owns ABC, can’t carry some ABC stations because they are owned by another company (Sinclair).
And you wonder why people get confused by the new television?
On March 8th, Disney-owned Hulu decided to remove WXLV ABC45 from their platform, and our viewers are now without local news, The Bachelor, American Idol, The Oscars and the upcoming NBA playoffs airing on WXLV ABC45. Please contact Hulu at (888) 265-6650, support
