Listen to this commentary from 2003, people just assumed Henry would win the ballon d'or+FIFA world player of the year. The fact he came 2nd in both was a shock. He lost each to a player who didn't even make the top 3 in the other award.

this is funny, your descriptions of Foden and Saka are literally the wrong way around. Saka is far more versatile, while Foden has a couple of exceptional, but very specialized skills (edge of box shooting, receiving on half turn). Saka has thrived in every position

Reminds me of Saka - CONSISTENTLY England’s best player for years, yet Foden/others get disproportionate praise. Obviously Zidane was much better than Foden, but Henry is underappreciated af.

This myth has to die. Henry was absolutely close to R9.
R9 had better control while dribbling, but Henry was faster, a better playmaker, better winger, and a better freekick taker. The rest is aesthetics. The only player Henry’s not close to is Messi (neither is R9)

Neymar, Rooney, Hazard, R9, Dinho, all could've done more. I think the biggest limiter for Henry is that he spent all his best years at Arsenal, and played 2nd fiddle to Zidane

That is UNREAL.
For context, Luis Suarez in 2013-14 contributed 44/101 Liverpool goals in the Premier league - 43%

I know EXACTLY what Cesc means, and have mentioned this before. Henry and Messi as pure individuals are unique. They made anything possible at any moment. If building a team from scratch, after Messi, my first pick is prime Henry. Above Cr7, above Neymar, above R9.

And more importantly, Henry was simply better. Salah could do a 20 goals 20 assist season, given modern output is easier. But unless he unlocks extra pace, power, flair and ball-striking in his 30s, then he won't touch Henry.

Henry was nominally a striker, but he was one of the best 1v1 wing players in history. He could front up any defender in history, and find a way to just knock it past them.
Something he had above R9 imo, who was better exploding in central spaces with impeccable control.

after watching tons of footage in recent months, I can safely say nobody is as under-rated by casuals as Henry. He's absolutely in the same tier as Ronaldinho, Zidane, R9 etc, and arguably the best of the lot.

I agree. But it seems almost widely accepted that Henry was rubbish and Zidane carried HARD, and that's just not true. Henry was very important in both tournaments, especially Euro 2k - he won motm 3 times, and scored important goals.

There's always a sense for me that in the back of people's minds, they really don't want to rate Saka. Something about the way he looks, or moves, he doesn't scream "TALENT" for whatever reason.
But this guy is unbelievable. The stats won't lie, he will become inevitable.
Bukayo Saka is the first player to create 8+ chances and complete 8+ take-ons in a single PL game this decade.

All these post 2010 goal inflation stat padders are still trailing behind the guy who had by far the best all round game. He was the Messi of this league.

Henry was good as a young player in 98, one of the very best players in 2000, MOTM 3 times including final. Carried in confed cup 03. Was great in 06, AGAIN France's best player in the final, made team of the tournament AGAIN

what a player. Arsenal in the late 2000s had some CRAZY talent with RVP, Fabregas, and endless creative midfielders. Injuries and defensive frailty really killed those teams.
I get there was very little money. But Wenger picked some awful GKs and CBs in that period.

Video games didn't mean as much back then, and journalists were way more important. But tbh, he was most under-valued as his career slowed down (Barca era+handball).

Arsenal fans seem so scarred by Cesc, RVP, Alexis etc. When Arsenal are competitive, they have MASSIVE pull. It is a huge club that still has further room to explode, and is TOP culturally. Henry and Vieira gave their best years to the club, and so will Saliba.
Saliba brother we all know you were gonna catch up with him and never let him score but you gotta firm that L sometimes so Uncle Perez stays away

Always made the right decision, simplified the game, could adapt to his teammates, incredible passer. For me, more complete than Zidane.
If Bergkamp could fly on planes, and if his peak coincided with Henry's, it genuinely would've transformed the history of Arsenal so much.

Henry being bad in the CL also seems like a complete myth. He had 35G/A in 41 games in that period, excellent numbers for the 2000s.
It seems more so that Arsenal were just EVEN MORE reliant on him in that competition. Henry directly contributed 60% of Arsenal's goals in the CL
