Unpopular opinion: for those worried that kids won’t catch up - you’ve clearly never experienced inheriting a weak year 6 cohort 😂🙈. The kids will surprise you!

❗️Pleased to announce that from the 8th April I have gained a substantive headteacher post 🥺❗️
Huge shift from an acting Head of School for the last 2 years I should imagine! Please tag people who you feel would be great to follow on this journey! 🥰
Any advice WELCOME! 😬

Absolutely not. We have a duty to attempt to educate, not eliminate. Children who make mistakes need guidance, not exclusion. Children. They are children.
I’ve now uploaded the art, DT, science, geography and history units of work that I’ve built for whole school with progression maps. These can be found for free on my TES account. Username: SiobhanSanders123. Hopefully it helps people out / gives you a spring board. 😀😀😀
I feel I’ve really taken what we do as ‘basic’ to be ‘perks’ after convos on here.

GDS is so subjective in KS2. Moderated last year. GDS were fine.
Then I moved schools. Moderated this week, GDS were weak according to the moderator (yet I would actually say they were stronger than last years!) Did the exact same thing as the previous year .. 🤨

If you asked me which staff member I worry about most, it's the SENCO. Their job is incredibly tough. Ours is out of class full time and it’s still not enough. Constantly told by the LA that students don't meet thresholds—it's exhausting. Parents, understandably, want help, but

Any teachers worried about going back to school, I feel you.
Any SLT members worried about section 44 letters, I’m with you.
Remember though, this is not an SLT V’s teachers battle. This is an incompetent government.

Quite a few people have messaged me asking how our school moved teaching from ‘RI’ to ‘Good’. One of the biggest ways was designing and implementing a teaching and learning framework.
I lead teaching and learning (R/W/M) across the school, KS2, maths, school council, PR for the school and mentor NQTs.
Today, I mapped out the curriculum and progression for geography across the school.
Small school problems 😂 Many hats 🎩 🙊
Had a great supervisor meeting this morning discussing my research proposal and literature review so far ☺️ Sometimes you need to remember how far you’ve come!

✔️ meeting with site manager regarding applying for a grant for outdoor area
✔️ met with the office regarding purchases
✔️ met with the ECT to discuss last night’s staff meeting and actions
✔️
@MrsB_NQT
I’ve had an email about my NQTs. It just tells me as long as you’re not failing I can still pass them. It also tells me I don’t need to do an observation to pass them either. So you should be fine :-)
☀️HUGE thank you to all of YOU for sharing the teaching post across this platform! ☀️I had one applicant before the bank holiday. I will keep you all updated with the revised number of applicants when I’m back at school to see if social media recruitment is the way to go! 👀
Today a teacher asked me what she should do as she has just caught a pet budgie in the corridor of our school .... I’m not trained for this type of scenario 😂 P.S: the budgie is cute! (We’ve contacted parents to see if anyone has lost a bird)
❗️❗️Wondered how long this would take 😃🙄. It’s not a SLT V’s Teachers world. Teachers do an incredible job. Heads and teachers should all be working together for the children. I’ve spent YEARS gaining insights into headship through research as I feel the role is just not talked
@SiobhanParker11
@Headteacherchat
Why are you telling us this? Most teachers have worked much harder than you each day. Would you like them to break their day down? Meeting with and having a chat with people is easy; have been there.
Day 23 of headship:
✔️ attended the MAT heads network designated to leadership training
✔️ Caught up with staff
✔️ Messaged back potential candidates for the jobs we have out ☺️

✔️ Safeguarding half termly meeting with the MAT
✔️ Moaned about the state of education for our most vulnerable and the rate services are closing on them before
@KellyOHanlon8
A whole day?! I just have a lesson observation, (can be done at your own school) some writing moderation about strengths and weaknesses of a piece (with TAFs provided for guidance) and an interview planned! SLT really do need to think about ‘purpose’. I feel that’s enough for me
Day 26 of headship: 📖
✔️ Spoke with payroll and sorted out some maternity pay errors
✔️ Chased up the children who hadn’t shown up for SATs yet (again!)
✔️ Dealt with KS1 behaviour
✔️ Sat in a Year 3 maths lesson
✔️ Completed all the equipment/ books / stationary order for
Findings chapter full draft is completed!! My God that was difficult! Fingers crossed I look at it tomorrow and still feel as happy about it as I do now 🤣 (hubby drew my illustration. I have zero artistic skills)

Day ✨12✨ of headship:
✔️ school improvement advisor meeting - who is a GEM! 🌟
✔️ saw year 2 out on their trip 👀
✔️ finalised plans with the site manager about the new EYFS equipment on the way that’s been sorted 🎉🥳
✔️ liaised with school support for recruitment processes
Monitoring of teaching and learning has been a key focus this past two years. A focus on pedagogy has really moved the teaching on and a clear monitoring framework is embedded.
#LittleWins
- may also blog!
Day 16 of headship: ☕️
✔️ Sorted cover for absent staff (we have an awful sickness bug going around!) 🤢
✔️ Morning briefing with staff 😊
✔️ Met with the data lead from the MAT who showed me how to pull lots of ✨fancy ✨templates from arbor for bulk letters for attendance
@wendyfaber2
And this is how, as a country, we’ve ended up in this mess. Not valuing the experienced teachers is the biggest mistake I’ve seen in the sector!
Husband: ‘what are those wellie things and why would you need them?’
Me: ‘it’s called fashion and it may snow, you never know’
*snows two days later* 😂👸🏼

Year 6 finish the Wizard of Oz CGP reading paper.
Me: ‘I hope you all read the text accurately like I mentioned’
*All children nod and leave... One child stays behind*
Child: Mrs ... I think I based my questions on the film not the text
Me: ARGHHHHH 😂
