We delighted to share our latest OfSTED report following an inspection in July. Outstanding in all areas.
“This is an inspirational school where pupils thrive, and learning comes alive.”
Aunt (91, wheelchair bound, partially sighted, pancreatic cancer) pays £5200pm for care home.
- Sold her one bed flat
- Spent £300k+ over 6 years in care home fees
- Still pays tax
-Now has <£23k so council will assess.
- At risk of being moved to a cheaper care home
Dignity?
Uniform. We’ve just struck a deal with a company for a bulk order of school sweatshirts which we will sell to parents for £6.90 almost half the cost of uniform shops. Parents embraced the idea and we took 1050 orders (4 form entry) in just 2 days. It saves our community over £5k
The school gas bill was £10k for February and £13k in January.
Last April we set the gas budget at £25k for the year.
Most of the extra £2bn going into schools will go straight to the energy companies.
We need to challenge the narrative that children who don’t meet the KS2 standard “can’t read”
To claim a child scoring 100 can read, but a child scoring 99 can’t read, is a nonsense.
Summer 2 is a tough half term for primary with so much going on. People think we wind down for summer, but it feels the complete opposite!
Shout out to all the thousands of hard working staff in schools doing a great job! No awards required!
Shared interview questions this time giving them 30 mins in advance and it led to a more relaxed candidate and a better discussion. They could also link questions as they knew what was coming. Would definitely do it again.
Every child?
Your funding covers 60% of my pupil premium children, that’s 84 out of 140 PP pupils.
But you only fund 75% of the costs with school having to fund the remaining 25%.
So you actually fund 63 pupils
I have 930 in total
So tell me how tuition is for ALL pupils?
Tutoring used to be something that was only a luxury for the more fortunate families.
Thanks to our National Tutoring Programme, every child is able to benefit from this opportunity.

After the frustrations of swimming lessons with pool issues, RAAC and rising coach costs, we took the plunge (pun intended) and brought in a pop up pool. Intensive swimming everyday for a 2 weeks and it’s working well. Costs have halved per pupil and double the numbers swimming.
Common greetings at school for leaders:
While you’re here…
Ah just the person…
Oh, glad I’ve seen you….
Ah, while I’ve got you….
Talk of the devil…..
Sssshhh he’s here… (only joking)
SATs play a key role in helping to identify pupils’ strengths or where they may have fallen behind as they head to secondary school.
Here's everything parents need to know about SATs, including how we develop the tests and why they're important ⬇️
Tik Tok parent unhappy a Y5 residential is £380 for 4 nights. The comments are something else. My fave
Parents even have to pay for the teachers. They should pay for themselves.
It’s worth remembering you can claim tax relief on your union subs. However don’t forget to update this information when subs increase.
I hadn’t updated mine since I was a class teacher (£130pa) and now as eHT (£512pa) my subs are more. I’ve just had £500 tax rebate. Cont…
School staff on Twitter let’s not fall for the bait and rise to the trolls who just want to see “teacher” rage.
There’s going to be more of it in the next few days
Just ignore, they feed on the outrage. Every reply is a gift to them.
Term Dates Postcards are well received by our parents (and staff), great for the fridge! We send one home and put spares on the office counter. DM if you want the details
The bbc micro is 40 this year! We had one in the whole of my primary school as a child. Fortunately I had the Year 6 (4th year junior as it was) teacher who had it in the classroom!
KCSIE Quiz 2022 - Not much to update this year other than a terminology change from "peer on peer" to "child on child"
You can find the google form in the linked folder. Open the form, click on the three dots and make a copy for yourself. 1/
When they say school staff are at no more greater risk, do they mean with regards to death or catching the virus? Those are two very different questions and I think they get confused.
A Google Form for parents to log absence or a COVID case has saved HOURS. It also gives easy access to key info on a single sheet accessible by key staff.
Form updated with the latest advice. Use conditional formatting to highlight cases. Demo version -
Notification of positive result for a pupil. Sending texts and emails to parents to isolate whilst travelling at 120mph on a train to Yorkshire.
Yes that.... 😞
I have updated the KCSIE self-marking google quiz for 2021. It covers Part 1 of KCSIE. Annex B is a bit more complicated, so I'm going to drip feed that via staff bulletins.
If you would like a copy make your own copy from the master in this folder
Thresholds are too high. They have been for a while which means any early intervention or preventative measures are either missing or left to other professionals.
Updated the isolation chart with new guidance as of tomorrow. Add the date of Day 0 and the rest changes automatically. Make your own copy from the one in the folder.
Anyone else notice the dfe form has closed. I think this cements the theory that they thought all schools closed last week. Hence why this weeks guidance is a mess.
Schools with experienced but expensive teachers. Budgets can’t sustain them. Pay/Pension grants not covering costs. UPS can’t move on as schools can’t afford them. Promotions seem fewer because schools are having to cut leadership and many posts going to internal candidates.
You’re never going to please all parents with what you set for work. All their circumstances are different. Set out your offer, keep it under review and give a clear message to do what you can. This is turning into a marathon not a sprint, so pace yourselves.
I've updated the presentation slides for 2023, summarising end-of-year data for primary. Useful for governors etc. There is a detailed version (context, headlines, groups) and a simple version (headline figures). Make your own copy from this folder.
I had two staff retire during COVID after 20+ years each. I had to apologise to them that we couldn’t hold a party to mark their goodbye. Those were the rules and expectations. So we thought.
The PM says some events identified in Sue Gray's report were held for the purpose of "saying goodbye to valued colleagues".
He adds that "some people will think it was wrong even to do that" but "I respectfully disagree."

I have various templates in this shared folder for new and existing school leaders including
- staff well-being survey
- KCSIE quiz
- Governor report
- Parent View Ofsted survey
Plus a few more. Make your own copies from the masters. Help yourself.
Thanks for all the messages, we are fine. We shouldn’t be used to it by now but sadly it’s nothing new. Cheered ourselves up with apple and blackberry crumble ☺️
Verbally abused out on our walk today, apparently we are aids-carrying c**ts according to a random guy walking by.
Didn’t give him the reaction and attention he wanted and carried on walking but I was quite shocked.
Homophobia is alive and well in 2022.

Curriculum review isn’t high on the priority of many school leaders. We’ve only just settled down with that last review. School funding, SEND capacity and support services are in dire need of review.
Recently the government said they wanted
- More teaching hours at A Level
- Maths to 18
- Crack down on teenagers vaping
Then made a video of 9-11 year olds agreeing with them.
🤷🏻♂️ weird
We had to have part of the flooring repaired at school as it was moving. They stripped it back too! Look at the difference! This has turned into a much bigger job now.
If you’ve not claimed at all before then you can visit the gov website and follow the easy steps. You can claim for the last 5 years so have the annual subs available to hand. Same link if you’re updating your annual amount.
This is poor. It comes down to leaders to mark the end of public service for their staff. There’s no national mechanism to do this. I think there’s a woeful lack of recognition for long serving staff in the public sector.
My sister retired from teaching today after 38 years in the classroom in one school. No one from SLT spoke to her. No staff gathering organised at all. A card - that’s it. She dedicated herself to her craft. Turned down promotions. Wanted to be a great history teacher. 1/2
Right I’m done. Not stopped all day SLT meeting, guidance for staff, parent letter, website update, google forms. All launched waiting for parents to let us know what they want to do next week.
Now for
@kylieminogue
and Prosecco 🥂

More school rubbish = more costs re collection which our bill is now over £10k. Would also have to have multiple bins at lunch for food waste, recycling and general waste. So they could take the packed lunch rubbish but would be more work and costs for the school
