Adolescents (mean age 12), with a lifetime history of depression, experience pain at higher rates than their counterparts free from a lifetime history of mental ill-health. Check out our recent work via open access availability below!
New from our team. What are some potential early biopsychosocial markers of depression and pain co-occurrence in adolescents? Limitations: Longitudinal validation required. Access: 🙏 to my collaborators (tagged)

Awesome work by Valerie on the prevalence and impact of pain in youth attending their first treatment for mental health!
Congratulations to Valerie Oosterwijk for finishing her Master's thesis under Scott Tagliaferri's supervision at Orygen. Completing a thesis using longitudinal data and linear mixed modelling in 24 weeks is truly impressive. #pain #chronicpain #mentalhealth #thesis

@PloederlM @bmj_latest I think this could largely be avoided if PRISMA included data handling as a section to report (would flag for authors to consider). My example of how I did this was here, but could be improved: @PatrickOwenPhD @mjpages @JOSPT

@CorKinetic @BillingMartin @PhysioTodd That’s fair. I would clarify if I think it can help the bigger picture, but must gauge if the person is open to it first. And more importantly, if it has the potential to help the pain presentation (likely not important for acute pain).

@CorKinetic @BillingMartin @PhysioTodd This. But could also be worth explaining the difference between pain threshold (stimulus required for pain) and pain tolerance (how much pain can be tolerated), but IMO only in some situations where you believe sensitivity might be an issue and pain threshold might be lower.
