@antiacademies
The fact that academisation has been sold as an innocuous 'levelling up' of education when in fact it has been the stripping of public assets (essentially given away to private individuals) is an utter disgrace. I really hope this government wakes up to this disgraceful legacy.
This week we spoke to
@warwickmansell
about his important and detailed work at
@educationuncovered
around Ofsted and Academisation. Thank you very much for talking to us, Warwick!
Byron Court community!!! Thank you for your support Over 150 strong at the demo!

We have a voice. We want a choice! Hands of our school.
@warwickmansell
Well done
@ReadingCouncil
, we second that - forced academisation is a clear injustice and threat hanging over state schools needs to be ended as matter of urgency
There's something very special about the Byron Court Primary School community in Brent.
Today protesting in Parliament Square and outside the DfE.
The new gov't, after Thursday, needs to listen to what they want for their school, not what the academisers want.
It's simple.
@warwickmansell
How can it possibly be fair for community schools to require "at least 2 parent governors" yet regulations don't allow the same for academies? Why can't the same level of parent voice and scrutiny exist within the academy structure?
Why did
@HPASouthKenton
@HarrisFed
remove all SEND support from day 1 of their takeover, without informing parents in advance, despite their sales pitch before the takeover citing their centralised dedicated team? They planning to push those kids out?
Forgot to include: handed over our beloved state school
@byron_court
to Harris Federation, with no pause or reinspection, ignoring the 2000+ ppl that signed our petition, damaging our community as a result. Shame on

@UKLabour

Fantastic support at the Byron Court Primary School picket line this morning
Parents, staff and students are clear that the school should remain part of the Brent family of schools and not be forced into a damaging outside takeover
Thanks so much
@CllrGwenGrahl
for this powerful & important contribution, it's vital your views and that of
@Brent_Council
need to be listened to alongside our own 👏👏👏
In response to the proposed academisation of Byron Court Primary School, I have written to the London Advisory Board to request that it remains a community school.
62% of parents believe it should stay as such and it’s important that their voices are heard.
Wow!!! 1,024 signatures and rising! Thank you parents, staff, community for showing your support to Byron Court Primary School!! Lets keep it going!!

Is there any analysis that looks at the difference between LA schools, standalone academies/small federations & trusts, and large MATs?

@englishspecial
Amazing that they are scrapping the very judgement process that is forcing our school to become an academy, and yet our protests go unheard. One word judgments are `inadequate' now but were 'good' enough in Nov 2023. Here's another word for you
@Ofstednews
'disgusting'!

Continuing with forced academisation will compound the problem of retention, forcing experienced and dedicated teachers out of the profession that they love.
Having seen
@bphillipsonMP
on the BBC this morning, it is time for my regular rant. It isn't just about recruitment of teachers, it has to be about the RETENTION of them. Recruit as many teachers as you want but if 50% are gone in 5 years you've still got massive problems.
Hi
@branwenjeffreys
we'd love to discuss our parent campaign with you and reflection of wider issues re forced academisation, Ofsted inspections, and lack of parent voice through the official channels. Pls DM us!
DFE are unable to provide any transparency regarding the decisions that were made about Byron Court, showing real disconnect from the staff, community and children which they are supposed to serve.
New: DfE denies parents access to background details on controversial academisation:
Freedom of information request re academisation of Byron Court primary in Brent, North London, sees officials refusing to provide discussions details.
Hey
@byron_court
why did you - literally - rip our campaign banners down from the school gates despite previously allowing it?
@CllrGwenGrahl
could you help explain this?
@teachwellall
Given
@bphillipsonMP
handed over our beloved state school to Harris Federation seemingly without much consideration, wonder if any donations to her or

might be on the cards 💰💰💰
Well well well - the Tory Peer and long-term donor switches to Labour...what on earth could have caused that???
Hope
@bphillipsonMP
sees through this shameless move and does indeed help us

Recognise alot here, massive thanks to you Nathan for shining a light on how parents & community members fighting back all quickly realise how rigged the game is. However that only gives more motivation to fight harder and not give up. Brilliant read 👍🏼

Despite exposing the blatant unethical and immoral decision-making of forced academisation, that locks out the most important stakeholders out, we have still managed to fall prey to the system that ignores the very people that it is supposed to serve.
"I think it’s hard to get away from the need for parents to have choice in where they educate their children. I just happen to believe that the taxpayer shouldn’t be subsidising that choice". Sounds like
@bphillipsonMP
is against any more community schools academising....

@edvainker
Communities are also significantly cut out of major decisions by the state -
@Ofstednews
seemingly pay little attention to parent views during inspections (indeed only give 24 hours to complete online survey!) as evidenced by Byron Court and Longsands cases...
This is truly disgusting but no surprise Harris Federation is at the top of this list.
Save our children. Save our Teachers. Save us from Harris Federation.

All this left the campaign “completely deflated,” and wondering how this could happen under a Labour government who, in opposition, was reported two years ago saying it “will not support forced academisation”.

‘If they don’t like it, they can go elsewhere’. This is why high control schools will never work for all.
The Michaela ruling shows exactly why high control school environments aren’t scalable - and why problems ensure when all the schools in an area
Last day of term for the students today - what uniforms are we buying? Will we come back to the same community or to a corporate franchise? Will we be able to reassure our children that they will get the music, arts and wellbeing enrichment that they are entitled to?

The new government needs to take a long, hard look at MATs. Not all are dysfunctional. But the scope for them to become so is far too wide.

🏫 As Labour's candidate in Broomhill and Sharrow Vale, I am completely opposed to the forced academisation of King Edward's. It's wrong for pupils, parents, teachers and the whole community.
