RT @MrTeece_: I thought his remit was to inspect what was in place. We don't need more daft ideas to drive the few teachers left away.

HMCI should just comment on what his inspectors have discovered. Has anyone seen that Ofsted thematic report on this issue? No, cos there has never been one.

@tes A perfect example of how confused Ofsted have become about what their brief really is.

@MrJDexter This is not what HMCI should be drawn into. He should report what his inspectors have found. Why do they keep doing this?

Yep, my son is a UX Developer, and when I tell teachers, many have no idea what industry it is, what he does, and what experience he needed. Most are shocked when I tell them his greatest enjoyment has always been reading, and this is an important aspect of his work.

@FrankWNorris This is why careers must have a higher profile in schools. There are many new and emerging industries that schools need to become more aware of!

With the help of apprentice Morgan, Education Secretary @bphillipsonMP tried her hand at bricklaying and heard from @leemarleylmb apprentices, that had seen life changing results👇 #NAW2025

“We need a new ‘basics’ that includes #oracy (high-quality speaking) and digital skills … There is broad cross-party consensus that the exam system is distorting the curriculum. Radical reform is needed here too …”: @PeterHyman21 @FT:

@FrankStanChat with @tob22 considers likely increase in challenges when more grades introduced following @Ofstednews release of draft inspection framework. Reference is made to amazing work of @noookophile and @colinsparkbridg to highlight the problem.

@tob22 explains the likely origins of Ofsted's proposed new gradings and draws attention to the lack of clarity in the language used in the toolkits. Stan explains the need for clear water between the gradings. All in the latest @FrankStanChat.

Balanced views from @tob22 on @Ofstednews proposals on latest @FrankStanChat but she identifies an apparent unfairness in the wording of recommendations in the reports. It sort of captures the problem with the balance of power. Have a look.

My extensive experience in all of this is that if you increase the number of grades you increase the grade boundaries. My good friend @noookophile has written extensively about this. And if you more than double the areas graded you are hitting multiple boundaries.

@FrankWNorris Does that not allow more space for nuance though, Frank? Eg, one word overall effectiveness meant only 4 possibilities. This allows for a much clearer outline of what a school is doing well, its successes and the challenges it’s still working on.

I got 2/5 on Schools Week's Ofsted quiz; Mrs C got 5/5. Discussion about this revealed, to me anyway, that daughter in law, who worked for us both at different times, "always said" Mrs C was a better head. ☹️
