One of the best things I and many others did in my previous role was to scrap grade descriptors for our ITE students. They either achieved QTS or they didn’t. Impact on their MH was significant, and conversations about teaching so much richer. Standards didn’t slip. Just saying..

@DrBGolding Dreadful. Who else was in the group and did they call it out?

@Rory_Gribbell @Ofstednews They’re more detailed descriptors because there are more categories being judged. And anyone who has sat in an OFSTED inspection end of day meeting knows that the previous versions were used on site too. Teams go through them to arrive at a grade.

So, I’m calling the scorecard outcome now. OFSTED will ignore criticism & proceed with the colour chart thing. They’ll justify its implementation as what parents want in order to choose a school. When in fact very few get a choice & if they do, OFSTED plays little part in it.

@Julespg @FrankWNorris They’re definitely grade descriptors. They exist in current frameworks, except they’re portrait! It’s what everyone already used to self assess and to try to hold hold inspectors to account when they arrived at a grade judgment. There are just more of them now so arguably worse.

@Rory_Gribbell @Ofstednews @Moreincommon_ I’m speaking morel generally Rory. As you know, one of my issues with the Big Listen was that it didn’t ask some key questions, such as ‘would you scrap grading altogether?’. I’m interested to know if DfE requires the new card to include grades, or if that’s an OFSTED decision
