We are a network of UK school staff (teachers and non-teaching) and governors committed to promoting sex equality and equity in schools. SEENinSchools

🧵 We are pleased to introduce SEEN in Schools, a new collaborative support network for teachers, non-teaching school staff and school governors who hold gender critical and sex-realist beliefs. We aim to promote and support sex equality and equity in schools. 1/8
We are committed to the protected belief that biological sex is binary and immutable; that sex matters in everyday lives, including rights and needs in schools; and that sex must not be conflated with, or replaced by, the contested concepts of gender or gender identity. 2/8
We are vigilant in our roles in safeguarding children from indoctrination, radicalisation and iatrogenic harm from psychological as well as medical interventions that do not have a long-term evidence-based foundation. 3/8
RSE guidance due on Thursday will make clear that gender ideology - that people can be born the wrong sex - must be taught as a “contested belief” not as fact.
"The Cass Review shows how dangerous it is to let ideology overtake facts" -
@miriam_cates
SEEN in Schools is an independent and secular network that is not affiliated with any school or academy trust nor any external group such as trade unions. There are a growing number of fully independent SEENs in a range of fields: . 5/8
SEEN in Schools forms part of the valuable diversity within UK educators; we strongly support fairness, tolerance and pluralism. We want harmonious workplaces despite different perspectives. We believe this is best achieved through open discussion and respectful dialogue. 4/8
If you would like to join us or just learn more about our network, please get in touch: SEENinSchools

@SEENinSchools
you can also find us on LinkedIn 7/8
SEEN in Schools membership is open to teaching and non-teaching staff in UK schools and academies who support our mission and share our values, this includes teachers, teaching assistants, administrative staff, other support staff and school governors. 6/8
SEEN in Schools have a public documents folder to which we will be adding resources in the near future. In here you can find more information about our network in our FAQs page: . Thanks for your support! 8/8
Boys and girls should not be sharing toilet facilities. SEEN in Schools wants to protect the rights of girls and boys to have the privacy, dignity and, crucially for girls especially, safety of single-sex toilets.
#KeepToiletsSingleSex
This was entirely foreseeable and preventable. A Sunday Times investigation in 2028 found 88% of sexual offences committed in changing rooms and public bathrooms take place in those that are unisex. 1/2
This should not be in any schools. It is unscientific, ideologically biased and suggests to children that there is no biological basis to the categories of male and female.
This is one of the slides shown to my kids today at school. Absolutely FASCINATED to know what 'Another Sex' is...I will be asking the teachers tomorrow. 😡😡😡
Thank you to all our followers and to the many lovely people who have got in touch to join our fledgling network; we're currently knee-deep in processing applications😀 We're aiming to be more active on X once we have got members connected!
#BeSEEN
Schools should take heed of the flag-flying rules this month: the traditional rainbow pride flag 🏳️🌈 is automatically allowed, but the 'Progress Pride' flag requires permission.
As we enter June, many local authorities will put up flags on council offices and other buildings to celebrate Pride. The classic Pride rainbow 🏳️🌈 seems to have fallen out of fashion with many public authorities, and instead we’ve seen a proliferation of “Progress Pride” flags

Hello! 👋 Thank you for blazing the trail for GC beliefs - we're able to connect, question and challenge more confidently thanks to Forstater 2022

This is fantastic news - an update to
#KCSIE
is essential following the

.
#SEENinSchools
are very pleased to see a separation between LGB and T.
KCSIE is the key DfE guidance that needed changing👏👏
Section on 'LGBT children' is dropped.
New section advises caution, following

recommendations.
Highlights the vulnerabilities of these children and importance of working with parents.
We agree that anyone working in schools, not just teachers, need to be able to find ways to raise questions: as with any aspect of school life with safeguarding implications, all adults are important.
@SEENinSchools
This is really good news and great to see it’s for everyone closely associated with schools and not just teaching staff.
Welcome. You are much needed.

Emergency ban on puberty blockers announced.
Government has introduced regulations to restrict the prescribing and supply of puberty blockers by private prescribers to children and young people under 18 in England, Wales and Scotland.
Here's an account of how one mother successfully challenged the mixed-sex toilet policy at her daughter's school. If you work in a school, this may help you raise concerns about the approach taken in your school.
This is shocking training - such ideological bias.
@SEENinSchools
is for anyone working in schools, including governors. Join us if you want to challenge training like this. Schools should be reading and reflecting on the
#CassReport
not doubling down on harmful ideology.
🚨Breaking🚨
A whistleblower has sent me shocking training delivered to school governors, in which they are told:
-“Transwomen are women”
-Two men can be a lesbian couple
-Assuming a child is not trans is “oppression and discrimination”
Read here.
“We had received two expert opinions, including from a specialist in gender, not to challenge our child but that adults should basically turn a blind eye, and not affirm her. But these experts were repeatedly dismissed by teachers.”
Good to see an apology from the school here but the social transitioning policies being pushed in Scottish schools by LGBT Youth Scotland & others need to go in the light of the recommendations of the
#CassReport
.
Does
@NEUnion
support the expression of gender critical beliefs? Why are teaching union not leading the way in enabling an evidence-led approach to gender in schools?
#SEENinSchools
Other flags used in support of the protest and its message were from
@NEUnion
and
@unitetheunion
Perhaps they can confirm that they agree with protesting
#LetWomenSpeak
events and the labelling of
@ThePosieParker
and attendees as 'nazis'?

Exactly this: schools should be impartial and the 'Progress Pride' represents a contested set of beliefs that conflates LGB and gender identity. Start asking questions. Are sex-based rights respected?
@SEENinSchools
There will be lots of schools doing this.
It's an opportunity for parents to ask them if they understand the difference between LGB and gender identity. Many schools will have no idea that they are advocating for men in women's sports and experimental medication for children.
#SEENinSchools
want all schools to be aware that social transitioning is not a neutral act: it needs medical oversight that school staff do not have. And we want all school staff to feel able to ask questions around school policies that relate to sex/gender.
"My child was vulnerable and I feel they exploited that. They isolated her from her family, told her to keep secrets from us and filled her head with extreme ideas."
We recommend the use of the school guides produced by
@Transgendertrd
- schools need to carefully review their approach in the light of the

"Schools and councils using the toolkit are very likely to be in breach of equality and human rights legislation"
All schools should review the external providers and guides used to ensure they comply with equality law.
#SEENinSchools
#BeSEEN
As a teacher, I'm very worried that schools have been encouraged to use resources which could be breaking the law.
It's vital to do due diligence when approaching these sensitive issues.
Welcome
@SEENinSchools
- I wondered how long it would be until there was a network for teachers, non-teaching staff & Governors. Great timing with the

published. I've just added you to my book chapter. Good luck for the future!

I made a tweet about my dislike for all the ProgressPride flags flying in London two years ago and was reported to the police. My comment was neither 'transphobic' (whatever that means!) or hateful. It was a statement about my concern that gender identity ideology had become a
Gender questioning children need a cautious approach to safeguarding that recognises the impact of social transitioning. KCSIE refers to the 'unknowns' of ST but Cass spoke of ST not being a neutral act. Safeguarding leads must take note and amend policies/practices accordingly.
Shocking from
@BBCRadioScot
. Interviewee seems determined to medically stop his 10-year-old daughter’s puberty after deciding she was a boy before she could even talk. The BBC has policies around raising safeguarding alerts. We hope they are being followed. Clips below.
Our network aims to connect school staff so that members can support each other to ask the difficult questions. Join us if you work in schools and feel the same way.

Welcome to the new Student Academics For Academic Freedom X account. We are here to bring together students from across the UK and Ireland who believe in academic freedom and free speech. We look forward to respectful conversations and debates.
@RGPSueW
Sue, the legal advice the article refers to has been made public - explicitly in the hope that people can use it to challeng other LAs/trusts etc and other schools. And, are you aware of
@SEENinSchools
? (It can feel lonely sometimes - wanted to check!)
@me2intheuk
We agree that anyone working in schools not just teachers that need to be able to find ways to raise questions: as with any aspect that has safeguarding implications, all adults are important.
If you are a teacher or other school staff with concerns about school policies/practices,
@SEENinSchools
can connect you with like-minded school staff.
#BeSEEN
Spoke to the Head of Year who promises me that the PHSE lead will be in touch to discuss. Literally had two minutes to talk to him but he seemed to take this seriously. Interestingly, another parent complained about the same thing last week. (We are everywhere!) So it begins...
“Enough is enough”
A powerful performance by Health Minister
@VictoriaAtkins
confirming Government will implement the

in full.
Today faith in politics is restored. A watershed moment we have all worked so hard to see.
@ricknelsonmn1
Those screenshots agree with our understanding of social transitioning as a medical act that should not be undertaken by unqualified school staff. We are not gender studies professionals, we are teachers and other school staff who want to remove ideological bias from schools.
@mary_mazunte
We are limiting
@SEENinSchools
to under 18 settings. There's been a number of people already asking about FE/HE so the demand is there if anyone wants to set up another SEEN...
"[The Cass Report] will help professionals to work with children and young people to explore the root causes of their unhappiness which, up to now, have been ignored by affirming practitioners as soon as the word trans is mentioned."

We are shocked at the shock at this article. The situation in schools has been abysmal for years.

@Shivandavis
Let's hope that there are many teachers now realising that the unquestioningly affirmative route they've taken is flawed. The findings of the Cass Review needs to be widely shared, discussed and acted upon in our schools.
"I firmly believe that all teachers, whatever their beliefs on this issue, care for children and want to do their best for them."
"They want to do the right thing but aren’t sure what the right thing is."
"After all, we’re not qualified professionals or mental health experts"

We are not a company and we are a separate group from the Civil Service SEEN which is in the screenshot shown in this thread. We are a group run by people working in schools, for people working in schools. Hope this helps.

Hello 👋 we are a small group of teachers with concerns that can be difficult to raise. We've found it helpful to share experiences and want to build a network of mutual support. If you want to get in touch by DM or email, we can chat more 😀
@me2intheuk
@TaButNoTa
@NickFletcherMP
@NEUnion
Thank you for the mention - unions are one area of concern for our members as they do not seem to be responding to the safeguarding implications of Cass, nor do we confident of their support for our gender critical beliefs.
@shabanahfazal
Thank you! We aim to help teachers share the findings of the Cass Review in order to question the approach of their schools. Anyone working in schools or academies that have under 18yo students are welcome to join the network: we're a diverse group🙂

Teachers "should not reinforce harmful stereotypes, for instance by suggesting that children might be a different gender based on their personality and interests or the clothes they prefer to wear".
