@FrancisXRocca So very condescending to the indigenous peoples, as if they are incapable of understanding the gift and teaching of the celibate priesthood. Such condescension has been part of Catholicism in Latin America for too long, and now manifests itself as liberation.

Fusionist conservatism is fatally flawed. But it would be churlish to leave it at that and thereby fail to acknowledge Buckley’s achievement, because it was probably the only kind of conservatism that could succeed politically in mid- to late-20th century America.
