"There is enormous inertia—a tyranny of the status quo—in private and especially government arrangements. Only a crisis—actual or perceived—produces real change. When that crisis occurs, the actions that are taken depend on the ideas that are lying around. ..."

@PhilWMagness @michaelbd Which statutes govern intra-executive practices? As far as I've seen, they all have to do with keeping classified info out of public or foreign hands. The statutes listed on the second page of this CRS overview don't seem to apply.

@PhilWMagness @michaelbd Classification is largely structured through executive order. Statutes are thin. It's appropriate for judges to police constitutional and statutory requirements, but otherwise, they don't have authority to interfere in how the executive branch executes the laws.

Congress definitely needs a more decentralized, comprehensive, committee-empowering, dare I say, democratic and inclusive budget system to deliver better results. In fairness to House Dems, taking on Pelosi's entrenched power would have been tough even with clear ways to do it.

For all the chest beating about democracy I'm reminded of the salient point my friend @KurtCouchman made. Which is that we don't have a democratic budgeting process in Congress. Until Democrats take a stand on this, then they should really spare us the crocodile tears

Congress established the National Cultural Center by law in 1958. In 1964, it was renamed as a memorial to the late President John F. Kennedy.

@elonmusk True tax expenditures against consumed income are about $1 trillion in foregone revenue each year, although the Joint Committee on Taxation counts $2.1 trillion against a flawed comprehensive income baseline. They’ve grown a lot since 2019 too.

Ha, I forgot that @CongressmanGT's social media person blocked me years ago over a supportive but political comment years ago, which didn't make much sense, IMO. Oh well, I still like the guy!

Meanwhile, New York state politicians are still blocking safe, clean, abundant natural gas from the Marcellus Shale.

PASSED☑️ My bill to prohibit any federal ban on the use of hydraulic fracturing just passed the U.S. House. When President Biden took office, his administration took a 'whole of government' approach to wage war on American energy production, pandering to woke environmental extremists and crippling this thriving industry. My legislation that passed today is a necessary first step in reversing Biden’s war on energy by preventing the federal government from banning the use of hydraulic fracturing. House Republicans are working to END the war on American energy! I am blessed to represent America's most prolific oil and gas producing region and am committed to unleashing energy in the Permian Basin this Congress.

Ready to pay a 13th mortgage payment (equivalent) in 2026 and after to the IRS? That's what's coming if Congress doesn't extend tax cuts by the end of the year. And, it's a great time to clean up the tax code, fix other problems, and cut waste.

Almost no one talking about the left's favorite tax provision of the day (26 USC 6103) to dump on DOGE has read it. It's almost 24,000 words. That's like 30 opinion articles worth of legalese.
