Ok so we all tweeted about how much we fucking love the NT and how it’s a creative hub for casual workers. They are using this to clean house. They have no intention of saving our jobs. They immediately sent us a letter saying ‘no take backs’ after the rescue package.

Audiobook narrator here- yes there should be a producer who catches these things. Unfortunately more and more is being cut back for cost. Often we are sent books producers haven’t even read, without warning of how many accents, subject matters, what the author wants, etc.

Not sure how many theatre people follow me but my grandma has a mate who has a hoard of apparently amazing Shakespearean costumes that she wants rid of, she’s giving them away and can’t find enough takers! Any advice on who might need them?

Personally, I would love my job back. I considered landing the job as an usher as a huge achievement, because it supported my career as an actress whilst also letting me feel part of the world of theatre. I was only there for a year but I had hoped I would stay for many more.

I just wanted to add - since this is getting a lot of attention- I work with amazing people, many of whom have been at the NT for decades. They have a huge wealth of experience and love for the NT. At the very least- they should definitely have their jobs kept safe.

Which means we have to do a lot more prep work, research, we have to edit out our own stumbles, which means more little errors like this are likely to happen. Big producers like Penguin usually have a really good set up, but there are lots of smaller producers who don’t.

I never understand this argument because in the UK, we also can hunt and have gun sports. But unless you’re a farmer you can’t then take your guns home with you. It’s a sport so you go to a safe sport place and they’re in charge of the guns.

If you believe in equality you can’t really defend private schools or any kind of selective school. When the option is there those who can afford it are going to use it. 9% of schools. They take up a much bigger percentage of those who end up in oxbridge, then government etc.

Just to come to the defence of the narrator- I’ve auditioned for books saying that it will all be RP, and then I get the book, and half of it has to be an American accent and some Australian. They had no idea whether I could do those or not.

Officially been told we are all being let go from our jobs at the National- all Casual staff. That’s a lot of people. I’m heartbroken. I loved that job, and I miss everyone I worked with. 💔

I wouldn’t say a bad management of funds- because they, like all theatres, are genuinely struggling. But I believe that they are gutting from the bottom to save jobs at the top, and many at the bottom have been there much longer than those at the top.

The point she’s making is that because of the alarmism around trans people, there has been a lot of cases of cis women being questioned/harassed in womens toilets because they are suspected as being trans, when in fact they simply appear masculine. It happened to a woman I know

Japan has the perfect system. You buy a ticket - the same as everyone else for the journey- you can take any train that day. Then, you get a free reservation for a specific train, which you can hand back in if you don’t need it or swap it for a different train.

Agree but I also think it’s ok sometimes and should be a project by project thing, rather than a blanket rule either way. What makes me particularly uncomfortable is that it would also require actors to explicitly state their sexuality in order to get a job, which seems wrong.

God damn sometimes it feels like I’ve spent my whole life since I was 14 defending Kristen Stewart. She actually WAS good in Twilight, it was a wet flannel part and she managed to give it some life and subtlety. I used to say I was team Bella. I still am.
