Eating disorders have the highest mortality rates among psychiatric disorders. Of those who survive, only 50% recover, 30% improve and 20% remain chronically ill. We still do not know how to talk about EDs, and most don't understand them. I really hope that can change.
Birthday parties at my son’s specialist SEN school are just not a thing- nobody does ‘em. But I decided this year to at least try… sent invites to the whole school (30 kids), hired a calm space & some soft play. Put out snacks and played music.
The film industry is made up of nerds who can’t believe they get to do what they do, and the children of people already in the film industry who have always known they’ll get to do it
Every single parent told me this was the first time their child had ever received a birthday invitation (😭). Only a fraction came but we had the most beautiful time. The kids just did their thing and had fun. Everyone was themselves. It was a safe space. Bliss.
The Little Mermaid is soo beautiful and joyous and romantic. All the cast giving 110%. Kids loved it. Especially proud of Jonah - 10 years of friendship and he’s always been a total prince 👑
I’m so glad we did it (if anyone’s seen MEASURE you know my relationship with birthday parties 😬🤪). I love our kids and our little community. Best party ever.
If your Twitter bio says
Actor • Director • Producer • Writer
Have a long hard think and ask yourself whether you’re actually Tommy Wiseau making The Room
When I got unexpectedly pregnant at 24 a director I was working with encouraged me to get an abortion to save my career and then tried to fire me from our joint project when I didn’t! Four years later and smashing it* without him ✌🏼
Last year at a party a writer I respect called my pregnant stomach a “career ender” and now I’m the head writer of a show I sold to a major network and yesterday I signed the deal paying me to write a movie based on the book I finished 5 weeks postpartum so DO YOU LIKE APPLES?
I’m heading into production on a feature soon and want to offer a couple of aspiring/up-and-coming producers the opportunity to do some shadowing if they fancy it. I’d have loved that coming up so keen to give it a try and will do it again on the next films too if goes well 🎬
Off the back of more nepo chat I want to open my DMs to anyone who is an aspiring filmmaker (with initial priority to producers cause there’s far fewer schemes for them!), state schooled and needs some connections. I’ll do a coffee a month this year and try to help if anyone keen
Absolutely mad to share this but LAST SWIM, the first feature I’ve had the privilege of writing, will have its World Premiere at the
@berlinale
2024 - and will have the honour of being the Opening Film for Generation 😭❤️ I’m so excited!!
#berlinale2024
Wrapped on a feature I’m producing late last night and this morning signed a deal to co-write a TV show I am SO excited about. I know some people are suspicious of the multi hyphenate thing but I bloody love doing both 💃💃💃

The UK film industry’s obsession with every new film being “authored” or personal is the reason we don’t have any commercial filmmakers or they all go to the US and it’s so 🫠
All this talk about male serial killer shows and when I recently pitched a female serial killer (who kills men) they said she wouldn’t be “relatable” and asked why we’d want to watch it. HMMMMMMMMMM
Elijah Wood and Luke Kirby star in NO MAN OF GOD - darkly disturbing new feature on notorious serial killer Ted Bundy - Premieres at FrightFest (

Will never forget the time we had a school assembly and the Headteacher just stood at the front of the hall and made us close our eyes and listen to Black Eyed Peas’ Where Is The Love
So this is what myself,
@HannaFlint
@Leila_Latif
, Sophie Monks Kaufman and Julia Jackman have been working on the past few weeks…
Very proud of what we’ve assembled and really hope we can raise some serious sums for

Wow - what a crazy end to the most amazing week. HOARD has won 3 awards at Venice
@SicVeneziaSNCCI
🥺💥😮
So proud of you
@LunaCarmoon
and the entire cast and team. What a journey!
Just so it's clear, nepotism and good work can co-exist. Talented individuals can be deserving of success and still benefit from an unfair system. None of this is mutually exclusive. It doesn't stop the inequality being fact, and a fact that's literally all over the place.
The biggest lesson I’ve learnt working in the industry (but still struggle to remember at times) is that it genuinely Does Not Matter if someone doesn’t like your work/pitch/project. Or if 5 don’t or 10. Cause often it just takes one to make it come to life 🙏🏼
To everyone working in this ridiculous wonderful industry: have a nice weekend ❤️
Take a bath. Turn off your phone. Have a nice walk. It’s whiplash inducing chaos out there right now but the good ones have each other’s backs and great art will prevail (hopefully).
We all know this industry will shower awards on films about Palestine in years to come yet won’t call for an end to the shower of bombs happening as we speak. Ceasefire now 🇵🇸💔
If have to read one more profile of a famous person where they say their parents "sacrificed a lot" so they could go to £40k+ private schools I will throw my laptop into the sea
I hope the UK industry learns a bit from Greta Gerwig and the way a lot of US indie filmmakers started out (then succeed). They embrace the spirit of collaboration & wearing many hats - maybe you should produce this thing, co-write that thing, star in one thing, direct another.
Not a single person in my career has asked me what class degree I got at university and frankly I should have been alerted to that while actually studying
Sorry to be soppy but I just feel so fudging grateful going into production on a film with a load of people I love. Like what a joy what a privilege what madness ✨
Gonna be needing a few runners (production/floor) who can drive soon for a feature film - if you are interested can you comment here and I’ll DM you where to send your CV. Need avail through Feb & Mar.
I know I wang on about nepotism a lot but is just makes me so angry that nepo babies get to be supremely average and everyone else has to be utterly exceptional.
Not a single thing about this Joss Whedon stuff surprises me. But I will damn well be part of the generation of filmmakers who make sure that in 30 years time behaviour like that DOES surprise and appal because it's not fucking normal anymore.
If all goes as planned this year, by the time I turn 31 I will have produced 6 features. At which point I will lie down for 6 months in a dark room staring at the ceiling.
I know the Tories have done many, many worse things than these parties in recent months. But also, on behalf of all the women who in 2020 gave birth alone, raised newborns without any family/help, and are still dealing with the trauma of frightening births: a sincere Fuck You 🖕🏼
The longer I work in this industry the clearer it is that the most important people are those prepared to entirely believe in/stand by their own taste rather than the opinions of others or playing safe. Programmers, execs, producers, critics, sales agents, distributors...
So so excited to be making this amazing film. What a line up and what a team!! Thanks to
@screenyorkshire
@BanksideFilms
@SkyCinema
and our other amazing Execs for backing this gorgeous movie 🤩
Super chuffed to be included in the Breakthrough Producer longlist amongst some very talented peers!! And what a stellar line up for Debut Director and Screenwriter. British film is alive & smashing it 🥰
My autistic 5yo rarely says anything that isn’t a request or echolalia. Came back late tonight, 4.5 weeks into the shoot, and he says “I miss you mummy”. So now I have retired.
Genuinely don’t know how you could have been treated like crap in this industry then think “oh I’ll do that to other people now I have more power”. One of my greatest joys these days is helping people into the fold and getting to know them and making them believe they’re great??
Problem in film too I would argue - not all directors are fresh out of film school. Some are returning from caring, parenting, entering after another career. They’re still talented!
Age restricted opportunities are "locking" disabled people and women out of theatre, industry figures have warned, arguing that ageism is still a "very real problem" in the sector.
HOARD is coming to LFF! Absolutely chuffed that the film is part of the First Feature Competition, and cannot wait to share the film with audiences at home soon 😍🍿
So thrilled to be shortlisted for
@Channel4
#4Screenwriting
this year! It’s been such a gift to be mentored by Jamie & has totally clarified who I want to be as a screenwriter (I’ve even set up the script I applied with!). Thank you
@PhilipShelley1
🙏🏼
My fave thing about working in this industry is you can see someone you think is really cool and just email them and be like I think you’re cool can we meet up and they’re like yeah sure
Final day filming today on my first feature as co-writer. As Vivian Ward would say: Big! Huge!
Note to self though: if you don’t want to spend 23 days using portaloos 🤢 maybe don’t write something set in every possible corner of London (EXT).
One of my biggest achievements this year has been slowly piecing together a wardrobe for my autistic son which is super comfy and sensory friendly, but also v stylish and chic because he is a handsome boi who deserves the best.
When we rebuild the film industry - and we have to!!! - maybe we can have an eco system that functions with grown up films and family films and original films and independent films and not just franchises?!!
