I was career VA hospital (prosthetics department). My default assumption was that anyone showing up at my door was obviously a veteran in need of and deserving of assistance.

When I was in a gay youth support group in the late 1970s, I met so many boys my age who had been thrown out/driven out/fled from their families of origin. I am grateful to have had the parents I had, and have striven to be the best parent to our sons I can be. Good for you.
