He straight up doesn't do any of that. He says that in thomism, God being pure act means having no potentiality to create. ST 1.25.1 literally explains why pure act isnt purity that kind of potency. Same is explained in Feser's Intro To Schol. Phil that Jay cites.

I find the Zoroastrian account deeply unsatisfying (from what I know of it) because it seems that evil really has won at least one battle with the good, whereas with God, it's fully 'trust the plan God is in control' where evil is fully subverted by the Good, having 0 wins.

Wanted to add but had no time, quite interesting that St. Maximus straight up uses Plotinus' argument here! He will still elsewhere speak of God as Intellect, but it's heavily qualified by the "absolute simplicity" (GASP) of God.

I can't imagine how difficult it would be to interpret St. Maximos in general strictly according to Scholastic understandings. Like the essence not being participated in (like how Thomas says) but the divine will is? Becoming all that God is?

Sts Maximus and Palamas believed in ADS, Aquinas and other Scholastics didn't or did so inconsistently. Second Scholastics who think that the "formal constitution of divinity" is intellect apprehending itself are definitely denying ADS.
What opinion related to church or theology gets you this reactions instantly?

Insightful thread; but I also noticed that there's a sort of terminological difference. We EOs interpret Patristic triadology to use essence to mean that which is common to God or in Latin terms; the essence fulfilling the office of the universal.

At first I thought that this was an interesting insight about how it theology was primarily abstractive instead of intuitive then one may practice it gluttonously but actually it's about Thomas being mundanely fat.
The Latins consider that a theologian could also be a glutton because they conceive of theology as an act of the speculative intellect. Whereas for the Orthodox, the true theologian is one granted a noetic-experiential Vision of God through purification by the Divine Energies.

Although, the potency he's talking about is clearly about active power. But then he also says that this kind of potency is contrary to God as pure act. Showing that he literally forgot Feser saying that act. power is not really potentiality but really actuality.

1. That God is absolutely simple. This is not eunomianism (for Eunomius didn't really believe in DS, but only nominally) but simply that God is simple in all respects. Including the respect of being pure actuality, for there is no passive power in God.

Take profs at the Moscow Th. Academy. I've asked a few and some *do* think that Christ must be a composite person. Some *do* think that there is numerical identity between essence and energy. I've had some say that not all books of Scripture are divinely inspired.

While a spiritual father can bless me to produce content, no father can bless me to teach outside of what he is responsible for. For example, my father confessor agrees with my views on DS, which is contrary to Dyer's. How can he be blessed to teach me?

Perhaps I am too exaggerative and this isn't the case for, say, his apologetics on church history. I refrain from judging that. But when it comes to contra thomism, filioque, original sin, neoplatonism then it's not good.
