@UbiPetrus2019 @Jay_D007 He straight up doesn't do any of that. He says that in thomism, God being pure act means having no potentiality to create. ST 1.25.1 literally explains why pure act isnt purity that kind of potency. Same is explained in Feser's Intro To Schol. Phil that Jay cites.

Wanted to add but had no time, quite interesting that St. Maximus straight up uses Plotinus' argument here! He will still elsewhere speak of God as Intellect, but it's heavily qualified by the "absolute simplicity" (GASP) of God.

Sts Maximus and Palamas believed in ADS, Aquinas and other Scholastics didn't or did so inconsistently. Second Scholastics who think that the "formal constitution of divinity" is intellect apprehending itself are definitely denying ADS.

Insightful thread; but I also noticed that there's a sort of terminological difference. We EOs interpret Patristic triadology to use essence to mean that which is common to God or in Latin terms; the essence fulfilling the office of the universal.

The Latins consider that a theologian could also be a glutton because they conceive of theology as an act of the speculative intellect. Whereas for the Orthodox, the true theologian is one granted a noetic-experiential Vision of God through purification by the Divine Energies.

This is not eunomianism (for Eunomius didn't really believe in DS, but only nominally) but simply that God is simple in all respects. Including the respect of being pure actuality, for there is no passive power in God.

@YariLogos Take profs at the Moscow Th. Academy. I've asked a few and some *do* think that Christ must be a composite person. Some *do* think that there is numerical identity between essence and energy. I've had some say that not all books of Scripture are divinely inspired.
