My Biggest Red Flag as a Scout, Players who put up good points as a 16 year old and barely improved on it as a 17 year old. They always bust. Beckett Sennecke (0.90 PPG->1.08). Ryder Ritichie (0.90->0.94). Compare that to someone like Tij Iginla (0.38->1.31) who’s skyrocketing.

Flames Draft Pick Jacob Battaglia is Currently 4th in OHL U19 PPG (behind Martone, Misa, Belchetz all Future Top 5 Picks). 2.33 PPG in the OHL is a good start for the 4th Player you took in the 2023 Draft. He’s also carrying the mail with his former running mate Ludwinski in AHL.

Why are the Calgary Flames bad? From 2004-2020 the Flames have only had 5 Top 20 Picks in 16 Years. They gave up on 4 (Bennett, Monahan, Valimaki, Baertschi) and wouldn’t sign the other to a long term deal, so he demanded a trade after his bridge contract (Tkachuk).

Calgary has the second largest NHL Alumni network other than Toronto in the world. Vancouver fans are insane. Brendan Morrison, Troy Brouwer, etc grew up in Vancouver and raised kids in Calgary. No player wants to play here because our Arena is falling apart.

Mark Jankowski had 0.53 PPG as a 19 year old in the Hockey East. Aydar Suniev has 0.81. Promising stuff he’s also had 3-4 Points taken away as USA Hockey doesn’t count possession the same, which is why you see so many fewer second assists in NCAA and USHL.

I’m sorry to burst your bubble Montreal Canadians Fans, but unless you trade up to 3rd or Demidov has a mangled knee he ain’t falling to 5th. Most NHL Teams see him as a surefire 2nd Overall Pick. ZERO chance he is passed up 3 Times. He’s putting up once in a Decade numbers.

William Stromgren now has 11 Points in his last 17 AHL GP as a U21. He’s a later June Birthday, which historically means something. I think if the Flames have anyone who surprises in the coming years like Martin Pospisil has it’s him. He always had good numbers in Junior.

Just brought to my attention, but the Flames got 6 of my Top 60. Surprised I didn’t have Misa in there as well. CONROY DESTROYED THE 2024 DRAFT!!! Calgary got 7 Top 60 Talents, what a deep Draft to do it in. Sign Zetterberg and call it a day.

Zayne Parekh of Saginaw not being a unanimous Top 10 Pick is insanity for me, he has 90 Points on a Team that is fairly Defensively Coached, is also a Right Shot and is just flat out dynamic. Craziness. If he was 6’2” we’re taking Top 5.
