@dieworkwear Not really. Women want to believe they are not dressing for men, but more often than not I bet that's just self-deception. Everything we do in public is performative. If a woman wears revealing clothes in front of men, you can never say that she is not doing for men (too).

@dieworkwear If there is one thing I have learned about human psychology is that many times people will not be fully aware of what drives their reasoning and behaviors. They'll say one thing and be honest, but in reality, other things are happening in their minds. It's self-deception.

@David_Challen Why are those judges allowed to keep their jobs??. Why is it that often the man's life should not be ruined by the consequences of his own actions, but the woman who was an innocent victim can be negatively impacted by the man?. Do people have no brain cells left?.

@David_Challen When a man excuses this behavior saying "he was just being a lad", he tells the world that this is normal and everyone should expect it. If comments like these are met with silence, shouldn't we assume that other men agree?. If he is not punished, doesn't the state agree?.

@SamHarrisOrg I'll never understand why some people have a problem with Sam Harris criticizing Trump. I mean if you don't see a problem with Trump but see a problem with Sam's criticism of him, maybe you're the problem. Everything I've heard from Sam in recent years has seemed rational to me.

@rcbregman The recent rise of anti-science attitudes is truly concerning. And it's very clear that politics is a problem because Republicans have less trust in scientists than Democrats. Science and critical thinking are more important than ever - lives are at stake.

@waitbutwhy Wait. but why? If our global population decreases, everybody may live a better life without polluting so much or driving so many species to extinction or taking away so much of their land. People in the West live good lives, but 8 billion people cannot live like that.

@heinzsight2020 Yet some people will continue to say that prostitution can be safe, we should remove the stigma because "sex work is like any kind of work". No, when women are treated like commodities they cannot be safe. When pimps and clients no longer see them as human, they cannot be safe.

@DrProudman @metpoliceuk What do you mean this is never a motive?? If this was the trigger for the man, then that's his motive. No one is saying it's a good motive or reason or that his actions are understandable or acceptable!!.

@GlamourMagUK Did she admit that she has no talents? Then why is she a billionaire?. I honestly don't understand why such people become so popular and wealthy while there are brilliant, educated people who share life-changing ideas who truly deserve more fame and wealth 🤯.

This is why "sex work is just like any other work" is one of the biggest lies told to women which puts them in danger 💔. If you wonder why I'm against the exploitation of women in prostitution or porn (prostitution with an extra step of filming), this is one reason. .
In our most recent episode, we talked about how #prostitution is inherently dangerous. We mentioned some examples of advice given to women in the #sexindustry that amounts to "how to not get robbed, raped or murdered" tips. Here is an example from the pro-industry group TAMPEP:

@nickgillespie @JoeUscinski @GiorgiaMeloni Why is it incompatible? Can't individuals be unique in some ways, but share common traits and values with other unique individuals?. Being Italian, Christian or a woman/man definitely doesn't mean that one is not unique in some ways.

If "sex work" is just work, how often does this regularly happen to women who work in accounting, retail, call centers, or restaurants?.
Important new study on torture perpetrated against women involved in prostitution in the US and the long-term impact of this. This table shows the staggering levels of physical torture experienced by the women. Note 100% said they’d been beaten by pimps and punters, 95% had been

@kattenbarge @CrazyChillPlLL @EllyArrow Do you have any research to back that up?. Any studies that show women who work as strippers and prostitutes do not objectify themselves and are not objectified by others more?. Or that they are not treated as less human than women in other careers?.

@kattenbarge @CrazyChillPlLL @EllyArrow No, it's not the same thing to work as an accountant or a stripper or a prostitute. In most jobs, you do not have to take off your clothes - and along with it your dignity and your humanity and to degrade yourself to an object/sex toy.

@AcePaladin @EllyArrow In both, men believe they are entitled to women. It reminds me of this quote: "To right wing men, we are private property. To left wing men, we are public property." The first time I read it, it hit me like a brick. The left picked porn, the right picked purity.

@RichardDawkins I haven't read it, but I had the same feeling/realization in recent years. However, now I think that life can have meaning even if we accept that there is no god out there - just an empty universe that doesn't care. We suffer because we've been sold all these lies before. .

@elonmusk I believe free speech is very important. But I also believe that misinformation is dangerous, so free speech should be limited to avoid the spread of ideas that are false or dangerous. I say this because we need both critical thinking skills and scientific literacy. 1/.

@EllyArrow It's easier to think that than to admit that watching porn from a young age and being exposed to the same things has influenced them. People like to say they watch porn to express or explore their sexuality, but they're actually having it *shaped* by a vile industry.

@manlinessMT Really? You can't think of a better way to inspire people to eat healthy food and work out than to pick on people for how they look - without taking into account any factors that influenced how these 2 people look (genes, plastic surgery, how & when the photo was taken etc)??? 😬.

@waitbutwhy Are you asking this because you want to encourage people to come up with and believe conspiracy theories - especially the ridiculous kind?. I don't see what good can come out of this. especially since exposure to a conspiracy theory makes people more likely to believe it's true.

@peterrhague I rarely check anything on wikipedia, but when I do, most of the information I read seems quite accurate. I always thought that it's a much better source for laypeople than a lot of other types of content they consume. Do you think that's wrong? (haven't read the article yet).

@datepsych I also think there is some discrepancy between what men claim they like and what they do like. Make-up, filler, surgery are not always detectable, especially by men, so they may claim they do not like them but they only spot the bad versions, but like it when it's more subtle.

@dieworkwear Some women make a conscious effort to make themselves unattractive to men in order to avoid unwanted attention. But that doesn't mean the women who wear revealing clothing don't do it for men if they do it in front of men - even if they claim so. The self-deception can be there.

@kattenbarge @CrazyChillPlLL @EllyArrow You seem to be shifting the conversation to something else. If you cannot make the connection between stripping and prostitution and (self-)objectification and the loss of dignity that comes with it, you can look into it. But let's not pretend this is not the case.

@TRHLofficial If you see no problem with this message, then that's a problem. They put together many things & problems and speak like they cannot be real problems and as long as you make an effort, everything will go right for you. It must be true because an angry person said it, right?.

@datepsych I have a question for whoever wants to answer this: for you, is there a distinction between finding someone attractive (thinking they are beautiful) and being attracted to them (wanting to have se* with them or date them)?.

57
@rcbregman What are you trying to say - other than the fact that people with little knowledge of measures and effects should not hold or share strong views on anything? (I agree with this). Also, in extraordinary circumstances, it's normal for people to re-assess their beliefs.

@datepsych I hate the manosphere/misogynistic content because it makes young men feel worse. It takes away their power (when others are to blame, you are powerless) and it makes them think that women are terrible and they can't have good relationships with them. Men deserve better.

@Aella_Girl Consent is not the only thing that matters. It's the bare minimum. Some go a few steps further and ask: even if it is consensual, does it increase the well-being of individuals? Does it have a positive effect on society?. Consent does not protect from harm or negative effects!.

I love this. And it's so interesting that when we praise others, we also feel better. In a way, it feels like cheating because the benefit should be for the other person, yet we gain from it too. Be generous with your praise but always honest. It can make a huge difference.

Apply this line of reasoning to anything related to morality and you'll find yourself on a train of thought that's heading straight off a cliff, taking you and all of society down with it.
Infidelity has always existed so we should stop concealing it, be fully open about it, and destigmatize it. Tax evasion/fraud have always existed so we should stop concealing it, be open, and destigmatize it. Stop letting uptight people dictate how you treat romance or finances.

@Noahpinion That post you commented on sounds like every time he invited his male friends out for a beer, a woman was sent to tag along by the organization "Destroyers of male only spaces and interactions" 😅. Loneliness is a problem, but focusing on an imagined enemy won't help.

@kattenbarge @CrazyChillPlLL @EllyArrow By avoiding my questions and requests for evidence, it seems safe to assume that you don't have it. @EllyArrow People who think that porn will not affect you as long as you don't watch it are either ignorant or in denial of reality. I swear, it's like people, especially mean, lose half their IQ points when it comes to this topic and I'm so sick of it 🙄.

@JamesCantorPhD I think the way women are often portrayed & how they portray themselves seems more about sexuality, objectification and narcissism than about femininity. I'm not part of that group & I don't want to be part of it. I'd love to see more women who are strong & smart and show that.

@Lilith_Atheist I'm an atheist, but sometimes I wonder how much religion is to blame for all these atrocities and how much religion was just the excuse that people used to justify things that they would have done anyway, but those stories just made it easier to do or explain everything.

@dieworkwear The only useful part of that interaction is that having a very low body fat percentage as a woman can indeed have negative effects on their health and well-being. Women's bodies can develop muscles, so let's stop calling them masculine. Lifting weights is great and healthy.
