tonight after one of their helicopters crashed in Newport Beach tonight injuring two of their officers.
We can confirm that our police helicopter, HB1, crash landed in the Newport Beach area. Rescue efforts are underway & more information will be released when available.
Once again we’d like to thank our community for respecting the peace and complying with the countywide curfew tonight. Nothing but quiet empty streets on this warm June day.

PSPD responded to reports of a man with a gun in front of the caller’s residence. Officers arrived and contacted the subject who was on PRCS probation and is wanted for multiple felony charges. Gun and bad guy removed from the streets. Great work to our patrol team this morning.
We would like to introduce Ofcr Gossett and her partner, Recruit K9 Apollo! These two are currently attending the K9 academy together for single purpose explosives 💥💣 detection. They will be completing their training soon and look forward to serving their community!

It is with tremendous sorrow that we announce the passing of Officer Nicholas Vella, a 14-year veteran of HBPD. Officer Vella died this evening after our police helicopter, HB-1, crashed into the waters off Newport while responding to a call for service. (1 of 3)

Our condolences to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department as the mourn the loss of K9 Sgt. Harry Cohen, who passed away on Sunday, Oct. 18, 2020 after suffering a heart attack while on-duty. Our hearts go out to his family, friends and colleagues. RIP Sgt. Cohen.
