We will never forget LAPD Police Officer Randal "Randy" D. Simmons, who was killed in the line of duty on February 7, 2008, after he was shot while he and other members of the Los Angeles SWAT Team made entry into a home at approximately 12:30 a.m.

LAPD, LASD’s Regional Human Trafficking Task Force, and over 100 agencies conducted “Operation Reclaim & Rebuild,” a statewide human trafficking crackdown that led to 547 arrests and 177 victims rescued, including 11 minors. The operation targeted exploiters, rescuing victims from sexual slavery and offering them support services. District Attorney Nathan Hochman vowed to aggressively prosecute traffickers, stating they will be found, arrested, and given maximum sentences. Full story link:

A devastating act of arson has left a DTLA taco truck owner reeling. Early Monday morning, surveillance footage captured a suspect setting fire to the food truck close to Grand Central Market. The truck owner reported damages of at least $4,000. The suspect drove away after the fire. The LAPD is currently investigating the incident. Full story link:

The Hollywood community and LAPD honored Senior Lead Officer Paul P. Jordan, who tragically passed away in an off-duty vehicle crash on Jan. 22, with a memorial bike ride. An avid cyclist and participant in raising money every year through the Police Unity Tour cycling event, the ride was a heartfelt tribute to Officer Jordan. Officer Jordan, a dedicated officer for nearly 30 years, was celebrated for his unwavering commitment to community service, including organizing events and dressing as Santa for the Hollywood Division’s annual holiday toy drive.

LAPD is asking for the public’s help in identifying a man caught on surveillance video stabbing a woman in an East Hollywood crosswalk on Jan. 18. The attacker approached her from behind and stabbed her twice before fleeing toward the Vermont/Santa Monica Metro station. The woman suffered multiple stab wounds but survived with non-life-threatening injuries. Police released an image of the suspect, described as a 30-year-old man with black hair and brown eyes. Early Wednesday in South LA, a pedestrian was struck and killed at the intersection of Avalon Boulevard and Slauson Avenue. The driver involved remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities; no arrest or citation was announced. While investigating, two LAPD officers were struck by another vehicle while they sat in their patrol vehicle, resulting in their hospitalization with unknown injuries. It is unclear if the second driver was detained. The incidents are under investigation. Full story link:

In a disturbing attack, a man accused of biting off part of an LAPD sergeant’s finger after being escorted off a train for possessing drug paraphernalia pled no contest to assault. Ephraim Okorie, 38, violently attacked officers at the Metro Red Line Vermont/Santa Monica station. Okorie was sentenced to nearly 1,300 days in jail, probation, and mandatory rehabilitation. An alleged gang member pleaded no contest to first-degree murder for killing 21-year-old USC student Victor McElhaney during an attempted robbery. McElhaney, a talented jazz drummer and son of former Oakland City Councilwoman Lynette McElhaney, was studying music at USC and believed in music's power to heal violence. Prosecutors are seeking 35 years to life in prison. USC's Thornton School of Music honored McElhaney by establishing an endowed scholarship in his name in 2020. Full story link:

In 2024, nearly two people a week were killed in hit-and-runs in LA. Yet another. This time, the 26-year-old victim was struck by two different vehicles, both of whom fled the scene. This occurred in In North Hollywood on Friday night. An unknown sedan hit the woman as she crossed the street, causing her to fall. Moments later, a blue/gray Toyota 4RUNNER struck her while she was on her hands and knees. Full story link:

He drove a black suburban with a sign on the door that read “CJ Angels Child Care. He told a 15-year-old girl who was waiting for the bus that he worked for “Child Services” and offered to give her a ride home. He took her to a parking lot and sexually assaulted her in the backseat. Those are the allegations against Derrick Dwayne Thompson, who was arrested on January 15 and faces multiple charges, with no bail set.
