This is awful. If any student would like to talk about their experience, please email me. I'm not Jewish but will be only too happy to offer support. Oxford is not meant to be like this and we, the faculty, must do everything in our power to stigmatize and root out antisemitism.
For those who've paid attention to the Russia-Ukraine war, yes, the NYT is finished, and the major humanitarian organisations are finished. One should add the International Olympic Committee.
(IMO, the BBC faces a more systemic problem of loss of relevance for int'l news.)

You can follow or unfollow whomever you like but what you've written above is disgraceful, and you should be ashamed of yourself. I won't say you're an embarrassment to humanity because you're not significant enough.

Hey, Drew, look how few there are of them. Barely half a dozen. Give Polish people some cred for NOT participating in this stunt organized by a Pal resident in the country and a handful of his mates.
Judith Butler describing the October 7 massacre as armed resistance: “We can have different views about Hamas as a political party, we can have different views about armed resistance. But [...] the uprising of October 7th was an act of armed resistance.[...] This was an uprising”
Are you surprised? We've long known that's what would get them going against Putin. And remember how worked up they all got about the visaban. Never about genocide.
Just seen Russian protests. That’s really insane.
They are protesting against mobilization, not against the war and invasion into Ukraine with war-crimes.
They are against mobilization, saying “Let’s get Putin into trenches”.
They want war, but want someone else to die there.
Volodymyr Havrysh was a brilliant man.
He studied in US.and Germany and wanted more than anything to make Ukraine a better place. Volodymyr implemented reforms and could do so much for our country.
He stood up to defend Ukraine and gave up his life for it.
RIP, Volodymyr.

A Polish-Jewish woman who tried to prevent the Polish MP's fire-extinguisher attack on a Menorah in PL Parliament and got sprayed and abused for her efforts speaks of this shocking experience. She says 'This is not 1939. It's Poland 2023'.

REFUSE to say whether “calling for the genocide of Jews” is bullying and harassment according to their codes of conduct. Even going so far to say it needs to turn to “action” first. As in committing genocide.

Utterly unexpectedly, I just received a death certificate of my father's first wife, Anna Kewes, of whose fate I knew nothing. Also death certificates of her many family members. All perished at Auschwitz Sept-Oct 1944: barely months before its liberation. Feeling shaken.

I heard today from a very close friend in Ukraine. She says everyone is aging, faster than imaginable, and those fighting are getting ever more exhausted. She didn't say anything one didn't know. And she didn't complain. But it was profoundly sad to read. We mustn't abandon UKR.
it is 2023 and a jewish leader of a european country has to explain the rest on holocaust remembrance day why allowing genocide is bad. let it sink in.
When I started my English DPhil at Oxford there was a guy in my cohort who knew he wanted to be a banker but first he was keen to write a thesis on Nicholas Rowe -- a rather forgotten Poet Laureate. And he did. Both. Kudos to him.
A demo in Krakow today in favour of sex equality, access to abortion, LGBTQ+, removal of Catholic church from schools, etc. Young people here face untold tragedies because of the prevailing ideology and legal restrictions. I'm in awe of them.
I was in America when the Bucha massacre was uncovered. Shaken, I told a US academic friend. She responded: oh but the US army did horrible things in Iraq. It's the same mentality -- Western guilt.

Here it is. Online version out tomorrow.
‘Irish people will follow the well-paved path of the citizens of so many nations before them: walking through quarters where the whisper of Jewish memory lingers, a memory that may, over time, also be erased.’

The important thing is we now have a v public conversation about antisemitism. It's front and centre in a way it wasn't before. And it's about anti-Jewish racism -- not about Palestine, Israel, etc etc. It's about what is happening to Jewish people in the UK. It's about them.

Well, I am Polish, I read Polish news, and can tell you that there is a hell of a lot ugly anti-Ukrainian rhetoric coming from the ruling party and state media. I mean very ugly. And it's all part of their electoral campaign which is also racist and xenophobic.
Let us hope that calmer heads will prevail. But the accusations against Poland - especially those uttered by Ukrainian and German politicians - are outrageous and completely unwarranted; the only one benefitting from this spat is Vladimir Putin
I tried to reason with the four people sitting outside the Univ. of Warsaw gates. One never heard of Al Jazeera, another said this was no time for nuance and the third, a woman (not Polish) hissed 'Israel must not exist'.
I and my fellow-Poles who remember only too well the antizionist drive of the communist party in 1968 which led the expulsion of thousands of Jews, incl many Holocaust survivors from Poland, this sounds beyond sinister.
I should also say that I will have something to say about Jewish representation in the civil service shortly. The data is fascinating, but does require thoughtful analysis.

Plus, and I think we might be missing the big picture here, it means the EU, U.K., USA and Canada are all building a larger political interest in Ukraine winning. That’s a really good thing.

There will eventually be a European wide embargo on the purchase of Russian fuels (Hungary excepted?). The only question is how many atrocities the Russian Army has to openly commit before it happens.
Cldn't agree more. In my English classroom in no 3 High School in Gdynia in commie Poland, there was the following line: 'The House of Lords is proof that there's life after death'. It'sstayed with me.
Another persuasive argument to get rid of the House of Lords. Do we really need U.K. unelected faux-aristocrats who have taken Putin’s money, lecturing democratic Finland on its responsibilities?

Budapest memorandum should teach the world a lesson:
- not helping Ukraine to win is the worst case for any future non-proliferation efforts;
- succumbing to russian nuclear blackmail would only speed up proliferation;
- altogether this would welcome, not deter the nuclear war
