@Killskerry
Monster House is a film I’ve come to appreciate a lot more as I get older, and this is definitely a part of it.
Oh yeah, at no point is Nibblecracker’s love for Constance treated as a joke. The film makes it so clear how much he loved her and vice versa. It’s so heartbreaking :(
@Pandaandwolf
I think the other raw moment was when she bended an entire suit of armor and just powered through the crew basically flamethrowing her on the airships in the finale.
@ChichiAi
It’s good cause it followed Gummigoo getting deleted. In a lot of other animated material, especially adult ones, they’d just stick with that joke because haha edgy nihilism. Instead it ends on this with optimism that Pomni is around people who understand, in their own unique way
@VoicesByZane
I’ve said it multiple times already but I never had a problem with bots until Musk came into the picture.
Dedicated to combatting spam and bots my ass. Twitter is basically 40-55% spam and bots now!
@ScratchyDerose
It’s good too cause it’s not really a twist, if you go back and pay attention to the show everytime Eddy’s brother is brought up it leads to something bad like a horrible prank or at Eddy’s expense.
Plus that episode where he thought his brother came back, Eddy was scared.
@EMositeCC
And because Simon was such a kind man to Gunter, that’s why they decided to become the Ice Thing instead cause they loved them back.
Don’t mind me I’m just over here being 🥺
@BretDevereaux
I guess their idea of ‘staying in your lane’ is not suggesting using nuclear weapons in a regional conflict thereby immediately creating global escalation.
@notsweetdandy
I mentioned this in a server, his moments of lucidity are really lucid. I like that, it shows he is the oldest just completely a wreck due to having to put up with the circus for so long.
@ScratchyDerose
I’m so glad they exist cause they’re one of my go to examples for how you can do very expressive, cartoony animation with rigged puppets. It just needs the right direction and design.
Plus they allow Mickey to be a character again
The story with this shot is Squidward was standing there and they had no idea how to get him out of there so they went with this lol.
Another wonderful thing when working on TV/Film sometimes you just throw in a wild card.
@TurboBurpo
@3bubby
When I first saw that I legitimately thought it was an error and her model was just gliding across the floor. Thank god for rewatches lol
@DoobusGoobus
Columbo is a perfect counter because the dynamic he fights against is what Light is, someone too arrogant and convoluted for their own good. Light is still a teenager with a god complex and Columbo’s attitude would get under his skin.
Columbo also wouldn’t dawdle like L did.
@VoicesByZane
The other two issues are:
1. It invalidates the first movie entirely and despite having a decent message did not require a movie’s worth of contrived nonsense to get there
2. It’s barely a movie at all, it’s a vanity project for Disney
@AWorkersIgnited
People rightfully are discussing poor working conditions in Japanese animation outside of industry circles, but outsourced work to Korea, India, Philippines (for example)alongside domestic have awful setups as well and need to be helped just as much!
@ScratchyDerose
I love how it ends with Death so bummed but respectful that Puss actually learns his lesson.
Only reason he’s even antagonistic is because of how frivolous Puss was with his 9 lives, otherwise like typical death he’s a neutral party
@Wabbit_Guy
Good board direction and fluid poses. It’s not stock like some other adult animated cartoons where there feels like there’s no actual movement between drawings.
@constellor
The worst part of that trope is it always comes into conflict with some justified reasons as to why the secret was a thing in the first place.
It’s just something contrived purely for drama. Drama for drama’s sake is some of the worst writing imaginable.
A classic, John and Faith Hubley aren’t talked much these days outside of basic animation history but any artist in this field should really be educated in their work.
“Moonbird” and “The Hole” are two of their most popular works. But their careers have span film and television.
@HegelwCrmCheese
>fried chicken
>spicy
>garlicky
>good breading
Good god this like complaining you struck oil while also being permanently cured of all ailments.
@IntroSpecktive
Part of that is because Aang wanted to retain his people’s culture which is what the pacifism came from and if he betrayed that he felt he’d officially destroy the Air Nomad’s history for good
Even then he still had to accept he might have to put the needs of the world above his
The worst stigma with kid’s entertainment is believing kids can’t handle strong themes.
Kids exist in a world with bigotry, war, illness, etc and it’s a huge disservice to act like they’re completely detached from it all.

@ASPertierra
Stuff like that aggravates me because how are you supposed to plan the planned economy then?
You usually then run into the issue of facts running contrary the narrative by the government, and they rather save face than make sure things work correctly. I’m speaking in general.
@RiseFallNickBck
It’s a great twist for a multitude of reasons:
1. Judge Doom is obviously the villain but it becomes way more real and personal with this
2. They go all in on how a villain with toon logic/physics would be terrifying
3. We never learn who or what he truly was
@tredlocity
Best thing about Rachel is that’s just Joe Murray’s actual energy.
He is that completely deadpan which is hilarious considering how wacky his work is. What a guy lol.
@keithjohnstack
The idea of a guy existing whose only capable of two poses and constantly look pissed off is a really hilarious concept.
Also a lack of a bottom half of his body
Hardest shot? You had a machine hastily staple together a bunch of scenes from the Matrix then put a basic cartoon filter over it.
Are you for fucking real? How is anyone dumb enough to buy this garbage.
Here's probably one of the hardest shots I've ever attempted
1) Two characters
2) Two different race of humans (prompt bleeding)
3) Very fast paced with a lot of motion
Was very fun and I learned a lot. Also develop a bunch of new workflow
#StableDiffusion
#Matrix
#Pixar
@Georghiou2D
These feels like a Home Movies bit, I mean that as a compliment.
But ugh yeah I’ve seen this happen before, this runaround of some weird guy trying to get someone to go sleep with them and keeps dodging the question until last second.
For younger people wanting to go into animation, this is the old-school way. Rolling paper.
This is our onion-skinning - make sure the action is working, volumes are consistent, arcs are met, etc.
Traditional is foundational and still done in the industry, don’t neglect it!
@fantasticterra1
That or people have this weird assumption that if something is portrayed then the media is agreeing with it and….no?
In the example above the film never treats the father’s action as acceptable, instead it’s a complex terrible situation. But I guess that’s too hard to chew eh?
@VoicesByZane
What makes him great as commentary too is like you pointed out with the paranoia/xenophobia, is he tries to push his rugged 50s American 100% patriot shtick but immediately tries to save his ass and run away once he caused the missile to get launched.
@LorcanHedgehog
Tom and Jerry are prime cartoons to showcase the importance of weight and good sound design
Characters need weight to feel tangible in their world and in T&J’s case it’s also needed to really sell hard impacts and violence. It has to really look like it hurts, that sells the gag
Jiri Trnka is one of my biggest influences and in his heyday was revered as the Walt Disney of Easter European animation. I strongly implore young artists to study his work.
It’s wonderful! 🎉
Jiří Trnka is one of the greatest artists ever to work in stop motion. But he's nearly unknown today.
So, our latest issue is a brief introduction to his career, with links to watch key films and scenes along the way:
─➤
@Kelsey_R_W
It’s basically a rough animation sequence and a very beautiful one at that, but a storyboard it is not.
Worst is, because it’s under the name storyboard it probably paid better as well
@OhHeyMonsterBoy
I can’t remember the article in question, was Cracked I believe, but I remember it years ago making a salient point that those outside the cishet identity will always be cast and blamed as inherently sexual or malevolent.
A queer person can’t simply just exist to these people.
@ZakaZ96
I love that what’s everyone perceives Jessica Rabbit to be in the movie is played completely straight in the book, alone with Roger being the murderer all along.
Yeah the book is just not very interesting in comparison.
@MossAnimation
The only issue is the GOP could run someone who isn’t such a public detriment.
On the other hand Trump has consolidated such a cult of personality within the GOP that this would cause a bunch of infighting
It doesn’t matter how skilled you are. If no one wants to be around you, no one wants to work with you, no one will hire you.
This isn’t a people skill issue either. Don’t be a jerk; cooperate and empathize. A lot of work is collaborative, you are not king of the hill.
@juniorhoncho
Bet it pisses those fascists off too that one of the reasons the Dada formulated was as a response to WW1 which they saw as so pointless and brutal (which it was) that the institutions that be weren’t deserving of respect.
The absolute middle finger of art movements. Love it.
To everyone, especially young artists hoping to work in the industry someday, do not share leaks.
This is a serious problem that hurts entire crews, so please avoid circulating things and please wait for things to officially release.
Thank you!
@MartinConcagh
@BeijingPalmer
At the heart, well one of the hearts of conservativism is demanding ownership of something to use and abuse. This is because conservativism is explicitly hierarchal.
Whoever is above is allowed to do whatever to what is deemed below, or lesser.
@Johnny2Cellos
He wasn’t even a deadbeat, he just wasn’t perfect and had some favoritism towards Tenzin due to being pretty much the only airbender besides him.
Which sucks, but that doesn’t mean he wasn’t around for his kids. Heaven forbid a character have actual flaws.
@JoTheZette
I imagine this is even more scandalous being a cartoonist or in animation production.
I dread when my niece gets older and gets mad that I get to look at cartoons all the time
You’ll notice quickly a lot of people’s idea of activism is through consumption.
Don’t stan that person, stan this person.
Don’t consume that product, consume this product. And etc.
That’s not activism, it’s just petty fan squabbles diluting what are very serious situations.
Look. I get wanting to be more careful of public figures who are Zionist.
But for the love of fuck, DON'T fucking accuse people using flimsy at best evidence. Cuz there is a possibility you're wrong and harassed someone who did nothing wrong.
@JihadalHaqq
Also people in movements, like OP need to stop having a figurehead direct their surface level interest in a movement.
Need to destroy this great man mythos. My point is, if you want to help or be part of a movement you shouldn’t be waiting for leader.
@Dededaio2
Because Donald and Goofy were allowed to be more dynamic characters and far outside their usual shtick too.
Donald could be an adventurer with his Uncle Scrooge, and Goofy could be a family man dealing with more personal issues.
Only recently did they allow Mickey to grow again
@jui_cyducks
Reminder that they not only got production completed but also managed an academy nomination and Disney didn’t get anything for the same year. That’s a hell of a comeback story.
(Technically they did with Pixar but I still consider them separate. Point is, Nimona endured.)
Disney’s version of Hunchback is the definition of hit or miss but they nailed one aspect beyond all.
Scale.
The angles and framing in this movie is amazing, the city of Paris is big and sprawling and it feels like it. It feels big, grand, like an epic.
If you’re looking to be an animator, work in the industry, or just love art in general then please check out this movie.
The film’s not really about story, but more the spectacle of art and animation. An unfortunately unfinished masterpiece by one of the greatest animators.
"The Thief and the Cobbler : A Moment in Time" (director's cut version by late Richard Williams) is screened today at the Academy Museum (LA).
I'm still hoping for a Blu-ray (& fix of rights/distribution issues), because these screenings are too rare.
@VoicesByZane
Their Deadly Premotion and DMC playthroughs are legendary. Also Friday Night Fisticuffs.
Even back during Machinima with Matt and Pat they were great. That Heavy Rain video were they just fuck around in the prologue was primo.
@Sin_Salt
My face fell at the last sentence at light speed.
Ok dropping out is already a huge risk but this is, oh man, that’s not going to turn out well.
@Pandaandwolf
I would greatly prefer 2D adaptations of broadway shows. God knows they’d be more visually appealing.
Can you imagine an animated Les Miserables? Oh my god.
@janey_poodle
Yeah I pointed this out in my QT as well, they’re falling back on tired sitcom cliches cause they’re incapable of anything remotely creative.
@nilahmagruder
A professor of mine talked that all the time in his classes, and he explicitly told us how to avoid that and have better output in boards and animating by just fixing the eye direction.
It was called, window eyes? It was making sure things were parallel and not perpendicular.
@zoenone0none
Yeah from everything I’ve checked so far, everyone worked to make sure there were as few casualties as possible.
This is still a tragedy, but the ship’s crew took immediate responsibility for the situation.
I swear these shorts were the best thing to happen to Mickey Mouse in decades. They have so much personality, the characters are allowed to be characters and engage in so much slapstick and surreal humor.
Two cents worth I think Minnie has some of the best cartoons in the lineup
While I certainly understand the uphill battle of separating nsfw and sfw work, especially when trying to get more commercial gigs, what really gets me is how it’s assumed they never interconnect.
Or worse, gets into this childish puritanical screed about eww nudity.

@terminallyOL
I feel we’re not talking about how terrifying that woman saying all that with a toddler in her car is. What a disgusting, irresponsible person.
If there’s one thing a kid understands, it’s when they’re being talked down to, or not being taken seriously. Not given a voice.
And I can’t abide by that, kids deserve to be treated like they can act, think, and be their own person, not an object.

@RiseFallNickBck
It’s a cartoon world with ridiculous things happening but the fact that Benedict abducted and brainwashed a group of children into being his submissive family really should’ve been addressed.
“Oh yes Ben I knew you had Sector Z all along, also I’m calling the fucking police.”
@pk_kenzie
@PinkieToons
If it does, I hope there’s enough directories for support as well as establishing where the lines are.
Last thing I’d wanna do is scab, I wish you all good luck if it comes down to a strike! ✊
To any younger animators or artists, please understand the importance of weight and good sound design.
Tom and Jerry shorts are a fantastic reference point as both are paramount in selling each punch, throw, impact, and so-on.
@meganroseruiz
Wow really? No artist at any point in history has ever made art that explored gender stereotypes in advertising, not a one!?
What kind of poor excuse for a museum are they running over there?
@RiseFallNickBck
Squidward is a grump and a jerk, but he’s not heartless. That’s the key to making him interesting as a character.
If he was just mean over and over then he’d be boring, because you never can expect anything else from him in terms of writing.
@RibbonDove
It’s such a weird sort of posturing, Eastern and Western Media has been influencing one another for decades.
Japan in just this example I can talk about how ridiculously popular and influential stuff like Tom and Jerry, South Park, Scooby Doo, SpongeBob, etc are.
@AviShtap
John K honestly is the last person who should be claiming ‘this all looks the same’ when that easily applies to everything he’s done. Even in terms of joke material and timing, it’s always the same thing. Imitating 20-40s cartoon aesthetics with none of the substance
@greenshrt_
I still feel like there was a disconnect somewhere between the original intention of Vaporwave and later installments, like it became less about the commentary and just ‘aesthetic’
But regardless there’s still some great stuff there, did this influence Future Funk in any way?
@jeandrawsstuff
This is something I always need to stress with younger artists, the corporate animation industry in the US is very cynical.
And like you pointed out, good art can be made, even pebbles can be turned into diamonds but it’s a very uphill battle.
@stevanzetti
It’s because their ideology craves hierarchy, someone needs to be below them to kick around.
That’s why they never can stay in their own spaces for long, they’re caught in this catch-22 of wanting to hate progressives but also demand progressive’s attention and/or respect.
@OttoPivnerBFA
@viperwave
John’s behavior is a peculiar coping mechanism where his dad was obviously an abuser but he, instead of resenting him, tried in vein for his approval. And moreover thinks the abuse was justifiable as tough love.
I’d almost have sympathy for him if not for, well you know.
@KevinTemmer
The opening to KFP1 is so immaculately shot.
Like I remember back in college every damn professor, animation, sequential, screen design, would gush over the poses, timing, composition - and they were all right of course. It’s so good
@catboymoments
It’s “support neurodivergent/autistic people” until they find out we actually are people. As in, we’re multifaceted, complex, and have nuances in thought and behavior like everyone else.
We’re not an inoffensive (or offensive) Hollywood stereotype. We’re real.
I get people use the ‘you are not immune to propaganda’ as quick meme but it bears repeating in sincerity.
Too many people get this idea they’re the exception to the rule. Or the next Gen got it. No.
Anyone can be misled and manipulated, especially on SM, so think critically.
