This is a Trip Foul by Karaban, and correctly called. Karaban is not in legal guarding position. He extends his foot in Griffen’s path, resulting in foot-to-foot contact that causes Griffen to slip & fall, affecting his ability to finish the play. Well done by the Lead official.

@kirk_denz Truth is I didn’t watch the game, so I’m unable to comment on how the crew performed throughout. I am only commenting on this controversial play, in order to educate people on the rules. We have 3 different camera angles to view this play, and through watching them we can confirm

@BaseballQuotes1 @BrandonGaudin - One of these days you or @JeffFrancoeur are going to catch a foul ball in the booth, and when it finally happens, I’ll be waiting for one of you to use this “Boy, am I impressive. What a play by me.” line. 🤣🤣🤣

FYI- In NCAA, NFHS, & FIBA, it’s 100% legal for a player to catch their own air ball shot attempt (try for goal), and they could even dribble again after catching it. 🔵NCAAM A.R. 216 🟢NFHS 4.44 Sit. B 🟣FIBA 24-4 This is only a Travel in NBA. 🟡NBA Rule 10 - Sec. XIII - f

@MikeRef4all I’d prefer this to be a no-call (incidental contact). IMO, the defender appears to be legal. The ball handler spins into the defender, but doesn’t go through him, and doesn’t really displace/dislodge him either. I think a patient whistle on this play can help us determine if

Great breakdown of this double dribble play, from my buddy Milt, using WNBA/NBA rules! Check it out, and learn something! Now let’s do a deep dive breakdown on the “why” behind this incorrect no-call. Many fans/coaches/players can’t comprehend how this was missed, bc they think

@TWDTV1 @sluggahjells Did you know that everything stops moving when you pause a video? That’s why video is better than still frames, in determining defensive or offensive movements leading up to the point of contact. Refs don’t ref still frames. We also don’t use still frames during instant replay

@coachmwsmith Every 🏀 league in the 🌎, that plays a 4-quarter game, has a 2FT Bonus starting w/ the 5th Team Foul of the quarter. In HS, if the trade off for having team fouls reset each quarter is a 2FT Bonus on the 5th TF each quarter, then I’m all for it. I really like TF reseting each Q.

@MikeRef4all If it was called a defensive foul, I would grade that as an Incorrect Call. Hopefully it was not called as such. The defender did nothing illegal, IMO.

PSA:“Over the Back” is NOT in our 🏀Rulebooks Ref- If you call Pushing foul/Displacement on rebounding action, please don’t tell Coach their player was “over the back” Coach- When you yell “over the back” to refs, it tells us you don’t know the rules I elaborate in this clip👇

This may surprise a lot of fans, but this was EXCELLENT officiating from JB (Lead official) on this play. Kawhi wanted a foul called & yelled at JB to call it. Well sure, he could’ve called this a foul, BUT the contact was BEFORE the gather. This is why refs are taught to let

PSA for 🏀 Coaches/Players (re: “Pre-Game Warmups”) THREAD/ As soon as officials step on the floor each night, to monitor pre-game warmups, we start gathering as much info as we can, that will help us do our job better that night. Part of that is ID’ing player tendencies. (1/7)

I can’t stand posts like this. The clip doesn’t provide full story/context, & breeds ref hate. We don’t know if he deserved it or not. There’s a variety of things he could’ve said, while the camera’s not on him, that would warrant a Tech (“Call the f***ing foul”, “F*** you”, etc)

This is a very creative, very LEGAL play, at every level of 🏀, but will confuse those who don’t know the rules. Jokic ends his dribble (gathers the ball) w/ both feet off the floor, & lands simultaneously on both feet. By rule, he can pivot with either foot from this position.
