Don't the French know about clapping?.
UPDATE: France has approved pay rises worth €8bn for health workers, with @EmmanuelMacron praising their role in fighting #coronavirus. The deal was signed with trade unions on Monday after weeks of negotiations, and will see wages rise by €183 a month on average.

Richard Ratcliffe to @BorisJohnson in 2017 (thread): "Your mistake in saying that Nazanin was in Iran training journalists – as opposed to the reality: that she was there on holiday with our daughter Gabriella, visiting her family – has raised the stakes for my wife. Your words.

@BorisJohnson are being used against her by Tehran to rationalise her imprisonment and as grounds for a new court case against her. She was on the news in Iran again. the broadcaster repeated. that you had ‘revealed’ Nazanin’s so-called crimes. The net effect of that is that she is in danger.".

@lorrainemking People's brains have fallen out. They're here saying "she hit him first" and plenty of other things which fail to address the fact that he strangled her. The only theoretical justification for strangling her would be if she was endangering the life of another human. That's it.

@lewis_goodall Let's face it, whatever the wisdom or otherwise of him writing all this stuff, there's a load of people who don't realise how toxic the press they read really is. So when that press goes to war against someone (and his wife), they're ready to follow.

They shot my colleague in the head. Then lied about it. Then harassed mourners at her family home. Then attacked the people carrying her coffin. Now some media are making excuses for them. Bending over backwards to do so. Shame on all of them. Rest in power #ShireenAbuAkleh.

@Miss_Snuffy You can very much have it both ways. I got zero Black history at school (70-80s) but somehow I know about Marcus Garvey and lots of friends did too. I'm not Black. I have been known, however, to read books, listen to music and talk to Black people. It's one of those mysteries.

That really can't be it. It's not going to help people on the sharp end, this "don't worry, most of us are not like that" stuff. Sorry if that sounds harsh, but this doesn't come close. What people need to hear is: we will defend you. We will oppose the racists however we can.
I'm white, English and grew up in Stoke. To everyone who doesn't look like me, whatever your religion, born here or not. I love that we share our country with each other. And I think most people believe the same. That's it really.

@shoot2scoot @lucymanning @jessphillips @GDST I’m not sure men should be telling women what they should or shouldn’t be saying right now, pal. The needs of those affected by this terrible event are: making sure it doesn’t happen again. (Nobody’s stopping you fundraising for the family, obviously).

@kelvmackenzie @BBCr4today Plain racism. Ms Husain is a fine journalist who has done tough interviews with leaders on all sides and shown empathy to civilians on all sides. Only someone who decided to shut their eyes and ears to the police’s dealings with Black people, women’s rights campaigners, environmental campaigners, football fans and others for a *very* long time would maintain the mindset that goes:”surely the cops wouldn’t make things up.”.
I am absolutely fucking done with people like @edballs who keep saying the police “must” have had intelligence. They didn’t. They manufactured excuses to destroy a protest and silence any dissent. Labour’s first leader was a republican. These people are a joke.
