I won't lie, political allegiances aside, seeing a woman who was a mum at 16, left school without qualifications and gained them later become Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom makes me proud to be British. Today is momentous for that alone.

The fact the oldest man in the world is a scouser called John who religiously has a chippy tea every Friday should be a source of local pride. Congratulations John, I hope you can hold the title for a good while.

The European mind can absolutely comprehend this.
Pride: while I have observed and admired what you have achieved over my lifetime, may I respectfully suggest that you are borderline guilty of Too Much Bunting (TMB). It may be seen as authoritarian, and therefore oppressive.

The world would be far better if the British plug design was universal.
It's unbelievably overengineered, fused at the plug, on/off at the wall, and means that the vast majority of appliances (washing machine to phone) use the same plug. Safest you will find.

Kinda glad the Greens got 4 MPs because they're now getting the scrutiny they deserve for being a fundamentally unserious doctrinally NIMBY party fixated on degrowth and reframing an austerity agenda as being "for the greater and common good".
On the day Ian Blackford resigns as SNP Westminster leader, I want to remember Charles Kennedy who died 3 weeks after losing to Blackford after the dirtiest of campaigns.

wasn’t “honest” about her financial interest to me.
She didn’t explain “from the very beginning” about her financial “involvement” - her message below was typical.
It wasn’t in her Register of Interests, as you’d expect it.

is right to take this
I speak from experience as a long suffering Lib Dem in saying that there's nothing more satisfying than a local elections where the tories are on the ropes. We remember 2019.
@czajczyc
Exactly. It's so great that someone with that experience is in such a position of power. It's a barrier to opportunity for so many, and that's not right.
My position was very clear from the original tweet btw.
Betty Boothroyd was a trailblazer of female representation in British politics. The fact that the PM cannot have the basic respect to do this is insulting

What's going on here? Reform admits to running ‘paper candidates’ to boost vote share. It's now under pressure to provide evidence all its candidates were REAL PEOPLE after doubts over those who stood without providing pics, biographies or contacts & didn't attend vote counts...

🚨 BREAKING NEWS 🚨
It’s been confirmed by voting website that the only way to beat the Tories out of Government is to VOTE SNP in Midlothian at the upcoming General Election. 🗳️

I think this comment from Esther Ghey that 3 sets of parents have lost a child deserves some positive recognition. The grace and strength that takes after such savagery is commendable. I'm sure we'll continue to see her pushing for positive change in her daughter's name.

I have a hot take that PR would absolutely destroy a Lib Dem campaign infrastructure that is so FPTPcoded. But we support it because it's a better way to elect representatives.
Interesting sub-question: what happens if the Lib Dems get 50-60 MPs, and Reform get 1 with the same voteshare?
Does a party that has been agitating for voting reform for two decades join Reform in pushing for proportional representation, or does it suddenly go very quiet?
