I would use this algorithm:
1. Ask my interviewer to stand up.
2. Stand up myself.
3. Ask them to come on my side.
4. Let them sit.
5. Go to their side.
6. Sit.
NOTE: ask them to stand up first, to avoid unnecessary standing up yourself, if they decline.

Not sure it's worth calling an anti pattern.
It's just bad code because the "else" statements are redundant, otherwise it's already the best solution 🤷♂️
Reading and editing an early return is easier than a the "for each" function that rises the cognitive load.
