Yesterday, whilst sat at Stafford A Trainee driver in the seat, me on the second man’s side. I noticed a lady pacing up and down on the opposite platform. Just something about her seemed off. I watched her for a few seconds, then we got the Right away to leave.

I managed to get in touch with the station and find out how the situation had developed. Spoke to team leader who had gone to speak to her. She was having a rough time, but platform staff took her to the office to get warm and look after her. They are Heroes!

Using the in-cab phone I contacted the signal box responsible for that area. I told the signaller what had just occurred and asked if he could contact the platform to check on her welfare. When we got to brum, staff came and asked us about our welfare. All ok here just concerned

I instructed the trainee to take it slow as we departed. I opened my cab window and waved across the tracks. She looked at me and I mimed “Are you ok” she looked across and nodded but she had tears streaming. I thought “oh my”! I gave her a thumbs up and we were now past her.

Outstanding Chris. Got to Euston this morning and a little one was having his pic taken in front of my pendo. So I invited them both into the cab. Sat in the seat for a pic. Told him to give the horn a toot. Disembarking passengers didn’t look to happy but he was made up.
