There is no state pensions pot. It comes out of general taxation. Current tax payers pay the current recipients of state pensions (and always have). And that is why it is such a nightmare for the current (relatively) smaller working population funding a larger retired population

The current workers are funding the state pensions of the retired.
There is no state pension pot. Never has been.
Plus the majority of pensioners never contribute even close to what they receive.
Does that make them the scroungers?

It is a benefit. A contributory one, but still a benefit and comes out of the benefit budget. The contributions are not invested, and the payments to recipients are paid out of current taxation. Less than half of recipients actually even contribute what they end up receiving.

My 80 y/o mother in law doesn’t drive and has no passport. No postal vote either. She has no idea the ID rules have changed. She voted for Brexit and is a UKIP (or eqviv) supporter. Neither Mrs M or myself have told her what is required. We don’t feel guilty. Is that wrong?

The fact for passengers is that thousands of people were delayed - some for up to 4 hours - on trains without heat, light, toilets and information.
On a modern train 2 miles outside a major London terminal.
It was a shambles.
