I am broadly pro-immigration but it's clear to me the U.S. has gone way too far and badly, and it looks like Western Europe has done much of the same
You know who gets most upset about illegal immigration? LEGAL immigrants! They played by the rules & resent those who refuse to

I expect to have to pay my student loans. But for some people to get their loans paid off for free and not others, flies in the face of every notion of fairness.

People who want AI to be a thing:
1. AI Bros
2. Corporations afraid of missing out on another thing they don't really understand, like NFTs
People who don't:
1. Everybody else who exists

It's crass for him to be asking, but the estate absolutely is on the hook for the back rent. The disposal and mattress are question marks... landlord might be owed those, but most reasonable people would chalk that up to the cost of doing business, lest future tenants avoid
@opinonhaver
I hate the fact that this is something Trump is pushing, because I can't stand Trump, but seriously this is such a no-brainer idea that it's staggering we weren't already doing it. Get a U.S. university degree, citizenship comes attached to the diploma
@EasterbrookG
This is like that Norm MacDonald joke where the Washington Bullets didn't want to be associated with crime, violence, and corruption, so they changed their name to just "The Bullets."
@NateSilver538
I promise you this is absolutely true
I get called conservative a lot but what it really is, is that I am not part of leftward activism, and I just want politics to go away so we can all get back to living healthy and prosperous lives
@tumble_wood
@parismarx
That's not the AI that is being pushed now; that's just coding that used to be what we called AI. Nobody has a problem with that and nobody cares about that.
AI now in the form you AI Bros are pushing it, is the amalgamation of the LLM and the omniscrape to produce constantly
@jk_rowling
Remember in Harry Potter how it was possible for girls to visit the boys' bedrooms but Hogwarts itself literally prevented the opposite from happening? Some fairly prescient worldbuilding on your part right there

Oh. My. Goodness.
No shame to you for going on tilt. Who wouldn't, upon getting jobbed like that.
And much respect to Nicole for basically being as much of a good person as anyone could have asked her to be in this situation.

In high school a guy in my year found a Porsche 914 at the dump & got it running & daily drove it all the way thru graduation. Dude became absolute King Chad w/ a car literally dragged off a garbage heap. To this day I kinda want a 914 to tinker with, against all rational logic
@kennedytcooper
To really get a sense of how good or bad things are, you have to count underemployment, and unfortunately that is a metric that is notoriously hard to count with any actionable level of reliability or validity
@the_transit_guy
Why do you waste time talking about places you know nothing about. the City of Maricopa is an exurb of Phoenix that, until the late '90s, was almost all extremely sparse desert wasteland. This housing didn't replace a forest or a wetland preserve or etc
@HazelAppleyard_
I've said it before and I'll say it again. If your partner hasn't gotten all the way yet, you aren't done having sex.
Adults will communicate, experiment, accommodate, etc, to make sure the experience is good for both. And if nothing works? Maybe the couple is incompatible.
@the_transit_guy
See again you show you did no research about the place you are writing about. These Maricopa developments use (and HOAs require) low-water Xeriscape landscaping. No watering lawns, because no grass on the private lots. Just in the community parks and rainwater retention recesses
@wcbc06
@darrenrovell
People REALLY need to learn what price gouging actually is (and apparently, how to spell it). Dude, it's BASEBALL CARDS. It's not water or fuel or food. You don't NEED to buy it. Publishers pricing it for customers whose budgets exceed yours is not "price gouging."
@SerfToMogs
@jk_rowling
The girls didn't actually do it. The boys tried to get to the girls bedroom and Hogwarts turned the stairs into a slide back down to the common room. Harry asked Hermione whether it works the same for the girls on the boys' bedroom stairs and she was like "No, why would it?"
@Empty_America
True: Older houses have awful ergonomics compared to newer, esp bad kitchens & small master baths. Even 1990s houses getting bad: CRT-sized TV enclosures, brass & glass, many dividing walls. I lucked out w/a 2002 house designed w/ergonomics that became more common in 2010 & later
This post is like the review of Wizard of Oz that goes "Woman is transported to a surreal landscape and kills the first person she meets, then teams up with 3 strangers to kill again." Technically accurate but tells you more about the interpreter than the subject matter
“Are men trustworthy?”
This is the question at the heart of politics for women. Women on the Right make a trade - autonomy for protection from other men - with the men in these circles. They become kin, wives and mothers, to benefit from that protection.
That's why even the

I'm crushed that my 12yo son can't have the scouting experience I had. By the time I turned 12, I was already 2nd class rank and as I approached 17, I hit Eagle. But besides unlocking achievements there was a huge benefit from socialization w/ groups of boys in activity settings
@DisneyLorcana
Could you just say flat out that it will stay in print? That would solve the problem entirely. Catan has been in print for 28 years, you can't tell me you don't know how to do it. Today's announcement only tells the hoarders/speculators that they get one more shot at closet bait

Can't wait to re-live my undergrad apartment-life process of taking six trips back and forth to my car lugging stuff in from costco grocery trips, locking car each time so the transient living in the parking lot doesn't steal my stereo for meth money, such good back exercise!

One side of the electorate seems really upset at a ruling that basically just said "if these are to be banned, the Constitution assigns that authority to Congress, not to an unelected executive-branch department"

Amazon has been not-the-cheapest for a while, but Bezos burned a billion+ dollars of venture capital training everyone to think that it was, and it worked.

I mean technically it's not too late to have this. Cabo as an American resort city would rival Vegas inside of 10 years. Plus Sammy Hagar would make a few bucks profit on his real estate gamble, and who can deny the Red Rocker such good fortune?

What the humanities SHOULD BE, would be good.
What they ARE, unfortunately, hasn't gone that way.
I will stand with you in venerating the "ought" where humanities are concerned, because it's a tremendously good "ought" -- literally making lives happier.

This reads like creative writing that a woman wrote. The same gf who wouldn't enforce boundaries on Flirty Chad "instantly breaks up" with the man she's pregnant by when he asks for a test? OK. "Deep down I knew the baby was mine" is not a man's statement. Etc.

@GayBearRes
Seriously though, if they can make it to 2027 or so, they’re gonna be ok. Home values never sustain a drop. If you bought at 2006 peak you were ok in 2011 in most cases. Today the worst mortgage of 2019 looks like a bargain.

City of Maricopa isnt urban though, not even suburb. It's an exurb that only exists to meet demand for affordable single-family houses w/in commute range of Phoenix. Dense development isn't in the picture there and never will be. Instead it's in Scottsdale (see photo), Tempe, Phx

I do notice the glass holds up to basically anything now. I don't want to dent the metal though - feels weird to say that when there's glass nearby - so I still use the very basic magsafe plastic sleeve. I would agree the bulletproof Otter cases we used to use are overkill now

They always specifically want to walk alone in the city at night but they forget that (1) men also get mugged when we try to do that, and (2) they wanted the police defunded remember?

I appreciate your language specificity in this thread. I'm trying to teach my teenaged daughters that these men exist and the girls need to be on their guard. I'm trying to teach my tweenaged son not to become one of these degenerates.

I wish U.S. service workers were simply paid full market value for their labor, and there were no tips, but until that's actually the system in place, I will tip them when appropriate, because I'm not going to backstab them just because they're playing the hand they are dealt

In the 1990s, we considered LGBT rights advocacy to be correctly progressive. I wonder sometimes whether any momentum would have started back then, if midrange voters had known what was going to happen to kids

How does "non-farm output" recognize the throughput of email jobs? Some amount of labor is clearly occurring, but it's questionable whether that labor produces value that can be consumed downstream of it
Genuine question, not snark

We don't have to worry about school shootings in the U.S. either. Obviously even one is too many, but statistically speaking your child is in greater danger of being struck by lightning or hit by a falling satellite. The media amplifies the shootings to stoke fear and bait views

Buyer's realtor, if any, messed up. Listed at 698k. Just write an offer that says yes. If you're worried about losing a bidding war, don't. They'll tell you if they get a higher offer during the consideration period. If it never happens, the sale proceeds uneventfully.
