Men 'identifying' with Gaston is a modern internet phenomenom, willed into existence almost entirely by memes. A child that watches the movie will correctly identify Gaston is the monster. It takes adult depravity to identify with the obsessive narcisist that tries to manipulate.
The primal womenâs fantasy is to tame the monster. The primal menâs fantasy is to slay the monster. Thereâs a reason Gaston resonates with half the audience.

I have never seen a more perfect example of this tweet lol.
I usually hate using "tourist" as an insult but if you're crying about Zelda being the protagonist because iT's wOkE, then you're not only a fucking moron but 100% a tourist as well! We've wanted a Zelda game starring Zelda for 30 years! Don't ruin this for us you fucking cretin!.

This guy gets it. Gaston locks the princess in a dungeon the moment he sees what he thinks is a dragon he can slay. Narcissistic to the point of psychopathy.
@MichaelFKane âSlay the monsterâ is only half of the primal male fantasy (if you want to call it that). The full idea is âSlay the dragon, save the princess.â. Gaston is a mighty hunter but he hunts for his own glory. He wants Belle as just another trophy for his wall. He is no hero.

I'm convinced that Firefly's cancelation sealed its apotheosis. As it is it exists in this state of pure potential, having neither had a chance to fail or truly succeed.
@MichaelFKane It's a good thing that Firefly ended after a single season while it was still good.

Nothing in this post is true. The story makes it clear from scene one that Gaston is a narcissistic sociopath. Some of you haven't seen the movie since you were kids and it shows.
@athaidad @MichaelFKane The Beast is the anti-social inversion of the Chad protector. He actually has all of Gaston's vices and more, but none of his virtues, but is still the good guy somehow.

@TigheSammy As a kid I was pretty floored In the 90s, violence in cartoons was pretty strictly controlled. I have no idea how they got away with a death scene like this. Getting evaporated is NOT exactly tame lol.

The Illiad and the Odyssey are load bearing tales. Civilization and culture build upon the past. It's one thing if you haven't read something. It's something else entirely to not even be aware of its existence. If you aren't aware Shakespeare exists, you're not going to be able.
The way people are acting around this book is insane. So what if people donât know what it is? Are people supposed to be aware of every single piece of literature? You understand schools teach different things right? Bet a lot of you havenât read Macbeth, An Inspector Calls and

I've never read Watchmen, but I think it's funny how the author is mad that his readers interpreted a character named Rorschach in a way he didn't like. That is golden irony.
Alan Moore didn't know how to make a nuanced right-wing character genuinely look bad, so he ripped off a Steve Ditko character and said "but he's also smelly and an incel.".

@MiddleearthMixr I agree with this. It's obvious that whoever wrote Shadoes of Mordor actually really knew their Tolkien. They were given an absurd game system to marry the legendary to. The result is wild, a bit silly, and completely bonkers yet still feels 1000x more faithful than RoP.

Tolkien actually IS as influential as people think, but it's not in details of the setting. Most of that stuff is more Gygaxian these days. IE most elves and dwarves these days have more lineage with D&D than Tolkien. Tolkien's real nfluence was on the morale and spiritual heart.
Give me your Fantasy hot takes that have you like this. Mine is your morally gray characters arenât more interesting, theyâre just more murderous

So I've been thinking about Brandon Sanderson lately for obvious reasons. (No I haven't read Wind and Truth). I've long said that he writes killer book 1s and none of the follow ups are ever as good. And I think the characters are part of this reason. Here's my theory. Most of

Gaston gets worse over the film, literally locking a woman and her father in a cellar while refusing to listen to her explain the truth of the situation, while the Beast repents and learns humility and mercy. It's really not that difficult.

This actually IS my real advice to young authors. Get a good career. A trade or a stem that pays bills and gives you life experience. Practice writing in your twenties and then maybe in your thirties, you'll have a family, a source of income, and the life experience to start.
My advice to young authors: . RUN! . RUN WHILE YOU CAN! . THIS JOB WILL SUCK YOU DRY WITH ALMOST 0% CHANCE OF MAKING POCKET CHANGE. BE AN ELECTRICIAN OR A PLUMBER! AT LEAST YOU CAN TURN YOUR BRAIN OFF.

@BrainLeakage03 I'm not sure Huntsman is an inherently positive archetype. For instance in Snow White he accepts money from the Evil Queen to kill Snow White being back her heart (liver?). He doesn't go through with it, but older versions have him convinced the animals of the forest will kill.

One of the reasons I wrote After Moses was because sci-fi has become nearly entirely R-rated, leaving no on-ramp into the genre for younger generations. There's a place for hard content, but it's a good thing for us to have stuff share with a twelve year old nephew just getting.

Tons of right and libertarian leaning fiction writers out there. We can't get published. The trad pub industry laughs at us and the conservative media industry doesn't really do much in the way of the arts. We are here. But we're drowned out by the hurricane of crap and ignored.
So many authors on the Dissident Right are busying themselves competing with one another to be the next Dostoevsky by writing a Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius, when in fact what the world needs right now more than anything, is dissident YA literature. (A Thread đ§”1/5)

@AlysssaHazel I say it all the time. Stories have to have endings. As far as I'm concerned, this is Harley's final appearance. She gets out. Batman keeps her from really screwing up. They have a good moment and she goes back for a brief stay in Arkham. Once she's out, she disappears forever.

@realchrisrufo Plenty of conservative work COULD prove itself in the marketplace if it had institutional backing. But it doesn't. Mosy creatives on the right struggle in obscurity. The left is much better at patronizing art, entertainment, and culture than the right is.

A lot of folk who want the stabilizing force of a society filled with Christians but don't want to be one need to stop and ask why Christianity is a stabilizing force to begin with.
Christianity would attract a lot more practitioners if they stuck to the moral core of the tradition and got rid of the magical thinking. Good: "The servant who doubled his master's silver was given more silver, but the servant who buried his master's silver had all his silver.

Gaston defenders think he's cooler than the Beast who fights a large pack of wolves off with his bare hands. I really don't think you guys have watched the movie.
@MichaelFKane Everyone knows these are not good men, but they are examples of extreme masculinity and classic examples of the ârule of coolâ where Hollywood makes the villains cooler than the heroes. Gastonâs song is one of the primary reasons why.

Try being a novelist. Six months on a manuscript that sales for 4.99 a copy. Split royalties with Amazon. Now imagine how many readers we have to find to pretend it's a side gig.
In the good ol days of cartooning, artists were paid a decent wage for newspapers to print in their work. People could earn a living from it. Now, cartoonists have to grind and scrape just to earn a week or two of grocery money. "WHERE HAVE ALL THE ARTISTS GONE?" đ€Ș.
