A quick thing on casting & people having the worst takes. There were a lot of trolls complaining about the casting of 2019's David Copperfield, which is odd because it's one of the most immaculately cast films I've seen in years. It really plays on being...well...a play. 🧵

If you want to know why I’m dismissive of the phrase ‘cancel culture’ - here’s a list of almost 150 articles within in the last year or so about the same ‘cancelled’ author, many scapegoating 3 women of colour who had called her book out for racism/ableism. It’s simply awful.
This is what being a scapegoat actually looks like: A list of the articles in this last year against 3 women of colour for pushing back against racist language and imagery.

I should probably come clean at this point & say that shortly after the Timmy Mallett tweet went viral I was approached by a publisher to write a whole book of them. It fell through but I had, for the first time, been offered a ‘small’ advance. It was bigger than Liz Truss’s.
