Lost in all the snow talk is the fact that a lot of Boston-area restaurants are going to lose an entire weekend in an already-slow month. Support them by grabbing a Friday meal if you can, even if it’s just takeout.
The weekend forecast for Boston:
"After a beautiful Friday, it'll start raining the minute you wake up Saturday but there will be a lull as soon as you go to sleep Saturday night. Rain starts up again when you wake up Sunday and ends the minute you go to sleep Sunday night."
Is anyone else annoyed that you can no longer “like” a tweet in your timeline until you actually click on the tweet, making it a two-step process to show some love for a post? I think this is just for mobile devices but still, it’s really irritating.
Sadly, this is the final update on Dad, as he passed away late last night. Thank you for making his final two years much less difficult than they could have been.
@bwecht
I was once told to put a tea bag on a cyst on my back to make it go down. So I took one out of a boiling teapot. The cyst is gone; the burn mark isn’t.
Today marks Day 9 without One. Single. Minute. of sunshine in Boston.
For a story: How will you celebrate when we finally get a glimpse of the f--king sun?
Call me old-fashioned, but after two straight weeks of literally no sunshine, the last thing I want to do is drive nine hours in traffic to a muddy field filled with cows and watch the sun disappear.
Quentin the Quahog says an early spring is on the way!
We don’t have groundhogs on Nantucket, so we rely on the prognostication of a bivalve. The tradition stretches back to the 1980s and was started by former Nantucket Harbormaster Allen Holdgate.

An update on Dad, and things are happening fast now. Thanks as always for being here throughout all this. We're doing a last push that can help us with some very short-term bills (Mom and I thank you for any help), and please send prayers to Dad.
How bad was traffic today? Google Maps was recommending that I get out of my car and walk to my destination, which was 3 miles away and included highways and state roads.

To those scolding restaurants for struggling with their newly-created ordering systems during the pandemic, cut it out. It's a new world for them and they're still learning as they go--and they don't need added stress from people who can't wait an extra minute for their coffee.
Merry Christmas, all. This has been a tough year but so many of you helped get me and my family through it with your caring and kindness.
Hugs to all who have lost loved ones, and to those who have recovered from injuries and illnesses, including Covid.
Here’s to a better 2023!
I just drove from the South Shore to the northwest suburbs, and I can’t remember the last time the roads were that bad. I *almost* gave up and considered leaving my car on the side of the road.

Sometime overnight, the Boston Restaurant Talk blog surpassed 25 million hits which is funny because when I first set it up, it was really just an offshoot of the hiddenboston site (which is now on hold has mostly been on the shelf since the pandemic started).

Merry Christmas from Kennebunkport!
(Actually, I'm not in Kennebunkport and this was taken about 4 years ago, which was about the last time we had snow on the ground in New England.)
I just noticed that Steve DiFillippo of Davio's donated $1,000 to my father today. Steve has always been really supportive of what I do which I totally appreciate, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised by his generosity. So many great folks in the restaurant industry.
Two years ago at Town Hall:
"Here's your Covid shot. Now we need you to sit on a folding chair for a half hour to make sure you don't keel over and die."
Today at the drug store:
"Here's your Covid shot. Goodbye."
"But can't I buy this bag of chips?"
"No. Please leave."
A big shoutout to Tres Gatos in Jamaica Plain for holding a fundraiser for my father Wed 12/28. David and his team are saints and I'll never forget this. Merry Christmas/happy holidays and a huge thank you to them.

This has been the first weekend in a long time where I’ve actually felt like things are kind of OK again. Yesterday’s gorgeous hike and today’s walk and second outdoor dining in two weeks (and second brewery) has made 2021 just a bit more tolerable.
I literally can’t keep up with the sheer number of Boston-area restaurants either closing temporarily or being open for takeout/delivery. So starting tomorrow, I’ll use this page to retweet as many posts from restaurants as I can so you can get info that way.
Me to a friend: “What are you up to this summer?”
“I’m starting a 40,000-mile race around the world on a clipper ship. How about you?”
“Doing the loop around Castle Island”
Update -- Jacob Wirth may be opening back up in its space with "no changes," with the plan being to restore it to how it was before it was damaged in a fire.

I HAVE JUST BEEN HANDED SOME IMPORTANT INFORMATION.
I have been told... {shuffles papers, fidgets with paper clip) ...that there is a MARKET...a small grocery store... in North Cambridge that....that serves Vermont-style maple creemees.
Do you have any idea what this means?
The hibernations are coming in fast and furious now. I wouldn’t be surprised to see nearly half of all full-service restaurants in the Boston area ultimately close for the winter.
Sending good thoughts to everyone in the industry and hoping that the spring brings better days.
An update on my father including a big appt coming up that's worrying us a bit, and please, if you can give this a RT, I'd be forever grateful since we really need help from people who don't yet know what Dad (and my family) is going through. Thank you!
Boston Police say they did NOT close down Southie bars early last night. Some bars did close well before 1am. This was what it looked like earlier in the day despite social distancing recommendations of 6 feet by city & state leaders.

Yup, so today is my birthday, and knock wood/fingers crossed, unlike a year ago today which was the start of a very rough stretch, today my family is at least not in the middle of an acute crisis and for that I'm very thankful.

Man who kept his boat besides his house was ordered from the city to put up a fence to hide the boat from view. So he built the fence and hired someone to paint it.
@tomsietsema
Not specifically service-related, but restaurants need to do a better job of posting their hours on their website/social media, especially if those hours are going to be changing on a regular basis.
@robicellis
They reached out to me as well. Once I looked at the details, I passed, saying I was too busy (which I am, actually). There's no way I could justify doing this.
So Kings is naming a drink after me.
They're doing it to raise funds for my father who's struggling with health issues, and is actually back in the ER.
This starts 10/13 at their Boston-area locations (thx)!
