I'm actually obsessed by the COP26 delegates getting transport smartcards. Its so rare that you get such a naked illustration how our society really works. The very second that important people need to use a public service it gets much better - until they don't need it anymore.

For the past 60 years, so much of Scottish planning, public policy and public space has been devoted to privileging private car use. It has lead to an incredibly warped reality in the minds of some people, where the most important consideration is the convenience of a few.

Council tax is the most stupid tax in Scotland by a mile. We tax houses based in what they would have been worth in 1992 (even if they didn't exist then). The most expensive houses are taxed at the lowest rates. It persists only because of political inertia and it needs to go.

🏘️ The Council Tax freeze is regressive and largely benefits those most wealthy with the biggest properties. 💷 We want to see it scrapped in favour of a proportionate property tax. 📽️ @RozFoyer on @BBCScotNine

This isn't the exception, it's the rule with her politics. She's for progressive actions that she can't take, and against any progressive change that she can make. She was for a 50% top rate of income tax until the second she could set one, now she's against it.

France has a state owned energy company. France is not experiencing a cataclysm of household energy bills. Labour can't argue for the obvious, practical solution however. Its much better to argue for the complicated non-solution. That's grown up politics.

There are big changes needed in Scottish Labour, but I was going to keep anything from the current crop of MSPs it would be @LabourRichard 's leadership. A decent, principled, honest person, he's just another target for MSPs who have alienated practically all of Labour's base.

A large portion of the Labour right are in fact completely uninterested in winning elections. They are primarily interested in justifying their own bloated self importance.

If we had proportional representation then Johnson would not be Prime Minister. I've got absolutely no interest in hearing complaints about symptoms from people who don't have a plan for the causes.

@Keir_Starmer @AnasSarwar This will drive more people away. I've already had messages from people saying it's the last straw for them. This derangement on independence is leading our party to utter self destruction.

Peter Lawwell was against paying @celticfc staff a living wage because it would cost the club ~£500k/ year Peter Lawwell was paid £3.5m in 2019 I hope the next Chief Exec takes Celtic's ethos about being 'a club like no other' a lot more seriously.

This absurd situation is the end game that has resulted from our MSPs (and previously MPs) insisting that anything and everything can be compromised for the same of purity on independence. A stance which has driven away most of our supporters, members, activists and voters.

I've spent 10 years in the Labour Party debating in good faith with people who are 'actually interested in winning elections' about the direction of the party. The utter silence from them about a sitting Labour MP organising a rival political party is deafening.

Just finished a 2+ hour briefing on the @SouthLanCouncil budget as we head into our 13th consecutive year of real terms cuts. Absolutely, infuriatingly, exhaustingly awful listening as proposals to cut £20m from our budget *this year* are discussed.

After this, if @IanMurrayMP had a shred of integrity he would have stood down last year. Instead he had the brass neck to go around the country campaigning to be Deputy Leader of an organisation he was ready to completely sell out. I'm actually speechless.

What Starmer is doing to Diane Abbot is a textbook case of discrimination. She is very clearly being treated differently to and more harshly than white men (Neil Coyle, Stephen Reid). She has met all the tests to be a Labour candidate, but she is still being blocked.

I was in a campaign meeting whete John said that Labour's '15 manifesto was incredibly popular in Scotland. But because the SNP had copied it, the strategy was to completely ignore the manifesto and focus on 'No 2nd Indy Ref'. Cataclysmic.

The right of the Labour Party hated that Ed Milliband won under the electoral college system, so they changed to One Member One Vote. They hate that Corbyn won under OMOV, so now they want to change back to the electoral college. Beyond parody.
