10 days until we host the most ‘black mirror’ event at Mission Control.
You apply and receive an AI agent based on your personality and identity. Your agent interacts with all of the other guests in a simulation prior to the party to predict who you’ll vibe with most irl.
i'm throwing the first ever AI simulated party.
it's 3 days long.
day 1 and day 2 are in the simulation.
day 3 you pull up irl to Mission Control in sf.
here's how it works:
1. every guest gets an AI character.
2. you customize it to your personality.

Huge congratulations to

It was a privilege engaging with such a visionary and down to earth leader.
Got a serious reality check on 1st world problems when my Uber driver told me how he escaped Russia two years ago to avoid the draft, in his mid 40s, leaving his wife and daughter, selling his business, crossing into America illegally, and staying in jail until receiving asylum
You know the dinner will be fun when folks are asked by the person on their left a spicy question such as “what’s something your mom doesn’t know about you” “what motivates you” and “if you weren’t in tech, what would you be doing” 😂

’s growth to $1M ARR in 6 months from launching in YC highlights how much easier it is for founders to consolidate their entire back office under one roof with concierge support, instead of worrying about admin work.
Congrats to the team

@Mtclai
embodies “You can pretend to care but you can’t pretend to show up”
Last weekend, I gathered with 200+ family, friends, & neighbors to make an announcement.
An announcement rooted in my family's story, and the story of so many immigrant families who moved to the US to seek a better life.
I'm running for the SF Board of Supervisors this Nov! 🧵

I'm running to change SF 🧵

Yesterday,
@YoeriDassen
and I hosted a mixer for Founders & LPs.
Founders rarely meet LPs behind their large VC checks and LPs rarely meet founders they’re invested in.
Here are my biggest takeaways. 🧵
Thanks

@JoshConstine

I just found out two friends who met at a wine night I hosted at

I feel like I facilitated a marriage 😂
One of my favorite things about the tech startup industry is that folks are positive sum/ don’t gatekeep.
A ton of folks helped me get to where I am now, and I try my best to help when folks reach out to me.
This is not true for most other industries.
Got into
@Penn
via likely letter.
Super cringe but I wrote my common app essay on how the Twilight fad was annoying and made me realize I only want to be defined by myself and my accomplishments rather than any man. Still stand by that. 😂
I got into Harvard + almost every college I applied to w/ an essay about studying at McDonalds. Had multiple admissions officers write me handwritten letters complimenting me on it
To any frantic high school senior, the best advice I got was - keep in mind that the admissions
Happy Spring!
@YoeriDassen
and I are hosting a startup spring hike this Saturday at Golden Gate Park.
We're visiting the Botanical Garden, holding an ancient yoga meditation session in the park with Nidra Labs, and ending at De Young museum (free for SF residents on Saturdays).
Are you a founder under 26 motivated by impact? Nominations are open for

Some recent highlights include monthly dinners, private event at

As someone who’s always juggling multiple things at once, mentally focusing on one thing at a time has really helped.
Previously, thoughts about everything I needed to do would incessantly creep in, causing mental noise, anxiety, and productivity loss (+ they’re not even helpful

Society tries to gaslight you into believing there is one path to success, e.g.
- Rising the ranks in IB or consulting
- Being a founder vs an employee
- Starting a VC-backed high growth startup vs a cash flow business
In reality, success is different for each person.
Something likely obvious I learned about friendship as I’ve grown older: put effort into friends who put effort back.
The friends I cherish most aren’t necessarily the most similar to me or who I have the best time with, but those who consistently showed up over the years. ❤️
@Aella_Girl
IDK I personally don’t care if a man is less ambitious than me … as long as they’re not less smart than me AND also can balance me out, share my values, have integrity, are reliable, share my zest for life etc.
In DC this week. It’s wild. I love it.
Overheard several policy researchers or lobbyists discuss Israel/Palestine, an academic discussing her nuclear proliferation and North Korea research, an attorney litigating on worker rights. The woman sitting next to me at a bar happened

We're already transferring for several YC seed->series B companies.
Looks like Silicon Valley Bank is in some deep shit.
They just announced they sold nearly 80% of their AFS securities at a $1.8bn loss and are raising another $1.75bn via stock sale. Stock is down over 15% after hours.
I wonder if this was precipitated
Learning to code is one of the highest leverage and high paid skills.
It’s wonderful he is democratizing this skill across the world, especially now when it’s become increasingly easy to start your own tech company or work for one remotely.
Adult friendships are shallow because they’re so oriented around short lunches and coffee chats. If you really want to get close to somebody, you need to spend multiple days with them at a time. Travel together. Crash at their place. Block off your calendar for the ones you love.
FWIW, we at

and heard the same from our batch mates!
Congrats again to S23 on finishing the batch ❤️
My 2024 New Year’s resolutions:
1) Grow
@EveryBanking
. It has been super gratifying being a founding employee, bringing the company from 0->1. As we’ve found PMF, I’m excited to run Growth as the company goes from 1->♾️ and learn everything that entails.
2) Grow community.
Before coming to the Valley, I thought it was all about building the best product.
Now, I realize it’s 99% marketing.
People use heuristics bc they don’t have time or ability to due diligence themselves.
If other smart ppl are using or investing in a product it must be good.
I studied PPE (politics, philosophy, and economics) and international development - “quintessential liberal arts”.
Now, I’m a chief of staff at a fintech startup, run a mission-driven founder community, and am a former founder.
Tech is a bubble.
@SurbhiTodi
and I did a social experiment in nyc last night: we asked folks at top West Village bars if they’d heard of
@sama
or even Sergey Brin.
Professionals, artists, and folks in tech.
Only 1 had 🤯 … and he works in tech and had lived in SF.
Something really bad is better than mediocre (in relationships, careers, etc.). Due to inertia, you’re likely to stay in the mediocre situation and will be worse off for it in the long term.
Yesterday, I worked from the

Guess how much I bought all these books for (including a rare two volume illustrated set of Anna Karenina from the 1930s)?

100% agreed. It’s frustrating when folks only want to medicate away their depression and anxiety rather than address their underlying root. Of course, chemical imbalances are real and SSRIs are helpful but that’s often not the whole story nor the whole solution.
Mental health issues: depression, anxiety, insomnia. These are not just chemical imbalances. It’s your unlived potential nudging you to be the person you know you can be. It’s your dreams giving one last knock like “hey remember when we wanted to be a writer and travel the world?

I’m thrilled to announce I’m joining the

I joined the non-profit last year when working on

Whenever I see my friends from the UK, I feel like such a capitalist. It’s crazy how much our views are influenced by our environments, how paths diverge, and the levels of inequality based on geography. It makes me sad and more empathetic to how polarization happens.

I’ve noticed this too - VCs will say “we invest in startups digitizing the real economy” and then highlight Brex and Substack as their best investments.
Essentially, I think this means most investment theses are just marketing to LPs when in reality, VCs simply back the best

The biggest growth driver for companies isn’t necessarily building the best product, but convincing users you built the best product.
This is especially true now with AI eliminating most technical moats.
Interesting data from SVB shows what led to its demise.
