@Positivteacha Sorry you're having a rough time. I hope it doesn't last long. It really doesn't 'last forever

@buttonslives There's a *huge* difference between suppressing unwanted *thoughts* and suppressing *feelings*. If you don't know the difference you ought not to be commenting.

@educator4ever36 @Beanie0597 How exactly do you think you are establishing "literacy levels" beyond third grade? You've got it backwards. It's more important to group children who need instruction with the same skills/knowledge *earlier*. Later, you want all children with grade level challenging texts.

@Beanie0597 If you've taught Structured Literacy and it was boring, you are just a really bad teacher. The content for Structured Literacy to be fun is *right* there for you. If you can't make learning fun, it's not about the content.

@WheelImpressive @ModestTeacher Maybe because children can die of anaphylactic shock. 🤷‍♀️

@MinorityView @ProfeMGolden @JamesAFurey Yes. But much like anything else, not everyone is the same. And not everyone will gain enjoyment from the same things.

@Z_Hawk_007 @greg_ashman Actually, there are plenty of workplaces where playing on your personal phone, while being paid to work, is frowned upon. This is the developmental step of preparing students to be able to function in a world where you can't (sadly) just play all day if you want to eat.

@leilanicauthen @greg_ashman When the teachers are set up for all that, let us know, and we can ensure that there are 1:1 devices provided for students.

@EbIvryPlyr @greg_ashman That is not about phones. That's about discipline policy in the school more generally, right? Name one school rule that is absolutely consistently enforced in your school. Banning them won't do any good if the ban isn't enforced any more than any rule.

@BadSchoolparent @greg_ashman This is a bad argument. Schools all over the world have solved this without banning phones on the way to and from school.

@dlbeard @JamesAFurey Yes. Critical to offer more non-fiction reading options. The egocentrism of educators is always a problem... "I love it so it's what everyone should love". Enjoyment of story is one purpose of reading, but by no means is it the only purpose.

@MinorityView @JamesAFurey You understand that children get stories in many other ways, right? How many of the stories in their movies, shows, you tube, tik token and games have you counted? The issue is much more complex than "they must not know about stories if they don't read".

@AAC0519 @JamesAFurey Assume parents are illiterate. What's your point? Can't teach children of the illiterate? If so, you're saying Ts can't teach. They just sit around hoping parents are teaching their kids. Is it easier with parent involvement? Of course? So? The tough job is the important one.
