As a Labour party member & someone who grew up in a household reliant on benefits to put food on the table, I urge the Labour Government to scrap the 2-Child benefit Cap!
I have created an open letter for fellow Labour members to urge the PM to do so:
Just got my (provisional) Uni results and can happily say I've achieved a first! Not bad for someone who was told "you dont deserve to be at Uni because you're working class"!
Not had the best of time at Lancaster Uni, but im happy to now be back home in Leeds full time!
Tone policing trans activists when Terfs are quite literally aiming to hound any trans person out of public life + deny them life saving healthcare is not a good look, especially for someone supposedly on the left.
Violence against women is wrong, full stop. Encouraging people to punch “terfs” in the face, esp when cheered by hundreds (as happened at Trans Pride) should worry us all. That many on the left look away is indicative of a fearful culture,silencing many basic feminist principles.
Great time over the weekend at the Leeds East campaign launch to re-elect
@RichardBurgon
Residents we spoke to on the doorstep were keen to tell us how excited they were to see the back of 14 years of Tory government!
I'm proud to be standing as the
@UKLabour
Candidate for Garforth & Swillington in next years Local elections.
Let's win back the seat for Labour, to bolster the vital work the Labour group is doing.
If you can, please consider donating to my campaign 👉
After nearly twenty years serving the wonderful people of Surrey Heath and over a decade in Cabinet across five government departments, I have today taken the decision to step down as a Member of Parliament. Read my letter here 👇
Proud to have been elected Chair of
@LeedsYLabour
last night!
We've got a really great committee in place, can't wait to get going!
Massive shout out to
@KaynanHudson
for all the work he's done behind the scenes.
Thank you to all those that came to our inaugural AGM last night. 🌹
We look forward to organising campaign days and social events in the future, and ensuring that Leeds returns Labour councillors and MPs this year.
Below is a thread of what we got up to 🧵⬇️
Best way to unwind after a 9 hour retail shift? An hours leafleting in the rain for

of course!
(Im aware i totally failed at leaflet oritentation)
Just back from a bumper day in Whinmoor campaigning to re-elect
@J_GibsonLabour
I'm ecstatic that James is now officially confirmed as the Labour candidate for the ward. His hard work over the past 3 years has had such a positive impact in our community!
Great to be on the
#LabourDoorstep
in Swillington earlier this evening!
Lots of voters excited to elect
@RichardBurgon
after 14 years of a failing Tory MP and government!
Chuffed tonight that
@EastLeedsCLP
voted to send my proposed motion on Trans Rights to this years Labour Conference.
Leeds East is dedicated to this fight, and I'm proud to be the Vice-Chair of a CLP that has been consistent in its support for the Trans community.
I am once again asking for us to *not* rehabilitate the image of pre-johnson Tories.
Theresa May is not a "genuinely decent person", she's just another Tory devoid of morality.
I have never agreed with Theresa May, but I think we all have to admit she was the last genuinely decent person to be PM. I remember being in Portcullis House and I accidentally walked straight into her, I was mortified, she was nothing but lovely about it.
Genuinely nice lady.
One overruling fact about this country's upperclass thats not talked about enough: they're absolutely disgusted by the working class.
The disdain and snobbery they have towards us is on full display here.
Absolutely over the moon to see
@J_GibsonLabour
re-elected.
Its been an absolute honour to be his agent this year, and its great to see our hard work rewarded with an increased majority!
Leeds Young Labour's statement on the Shadow Health Secretary's acceptance of the shoddy Cass Review.
Our party risks being on the wrong side of history.
We are deeply concerned that the Shadow Health Secretary appears intent on uncritically accepting the Cass Review as policy.
Aspects of the review endanger medical autonomy, disregard crucial evidence and do not acknowledge the real and serious needs of Trans young people (1/2)
They villify, mock, and degrade the working class, then try to pretend they have common cause with us.
Oakeshot went to one of the most exclusive private schools in the country, she doesnt know "what tough looks like".
The last time Labour embraced this narrative it paved the way for 100k+ excess deaths under Tory austerity.
"Benefit scrounger" rhetoric is nothing less than the demonisation of the working class.
We have to combat this narrative as a party, not embrace it.
Another super sunday of campaigning!

The average yearly private school fee is more than either of my parent's made in a year while i was growing up.
My Dad was/is a binman, you dont get much more hard working than that.
"Working hard" doesn't get you to private school - being a member of the 1% does.
There is a HUGE misconception in the UK about private schools and who sends their kids there
My school was filled with kids like me, whose parents worked numerous jobs all hours so that they could give their kids better opportunities than what they had
This policy is nonsense
As I wrote in the letter, one of New Labour's biggest achievements was the reduction in childhood poverty across the UK - it is a moral imperative that we repeat this achievement after 14 years of Tory cruelty has plunged so many children back into poverty.
Moved by tonight's

Nominations for the Young Labour and Labour Students committees may be made up until 23rd February.
Great to be out in Gipton today, talking with local residents about the work I’ve done as the Labour MP for Leeds East since 2015 and discussing the chance people have on Thursday 4th July to kick out the Tories and get a Labour government after 14 years of Conservative misrule.
🌹Labour Party Event in Leeds 🌹
I'm really excited to invite all Labour members and supporters along to the Crossgates & Whinmoor Branch New Years' social.

I've just added my name to this letter and urge you all to do so too.
As a party we have to go further than just words, our actions and policies must change to regain the trust of the Trans community.
Labour members are united in anguish at the Prime Minister's horrific comments this week.
Keir Starmer's response in Parliament was good, but we have to back words up with action. Sign our open letter to the Leadership now 👇🏳️⚧️
I try to keep my personal life off of here, I'm quite a private person, but the woman I love is due to move to Australia any day now.
We haven't spoken in three months since our break up, and its now starting to hit home that she won't be properly saying goodbye to me before 1/?
firmly dispelled the myth that the whole notion of trans rights is a middle class obsession.
Happy to say that the motion passed unanimously with not a single member speaking against. ✊🏳️⚧️ (2/2)
Only the Tories could describe the existence of Warm Banks (caused solely by their Party's callous policies) as a "fantastic opportunity".
Imagine putting a positive spin on something so depressing 🤡🤡
Yikes.
Considering the countless long haul flights Goodall has undoubtedly taken in her career, i'd wager her annual carbon footprint is equivalent to what the *average* human emits in a lifetime.
Overpopulation is a racist/classist myth by the rich to avoid their culpability
Speaking on a World Economic Forum panel, UN "Messenger of Peace", Jane Goodall, advocates reducing the global population down to 450 million—a 95% reduction from today's population:
"We cannot hide away from human population growth. Because, you know, it underlies so many of

There is no one better in our movement than Corinne.
Ive been blessed to know her for a number of years now, and I've never met someone more hardworking or passionate about Socialism.
I'd back

We're proud to be supporting Corinne Furness for election to the National Policy Forum this year!
Corinne is a Labour stalwart in east Leeds, and will fight for true Labour values at the NPF 🌹

So many people happy to have already voted Labour today and looking forward to seeing the back of this rotten government tomorrow 🌄
@lewishurstlancs
In my 5+ years of knocking on doors for the party (in one of the country's most deprived areas) I've not *once* had someone bring up the issues Terfs bang on about. Its almost as if the weirdos who spend their saturdays harrassing YL members on twitter are out of touch? 🤔
Join us for our next campaign day!
🗓️ Saturday 20th April at 1PM
📍 Meeting at the war memorial on Otley Road (near Skyrack)
🚪 We will be doorknocking and having a social afterwards.
First time or less experienced? You will be paired with an experienced campaigner.
A great evening out campaigning in Garforth after putting my nomination papers in and being confirmed as the Labour candidate for Leeds East.
Garforth has a chance to vote Labour for a fresh start after 14 years of a Conservative MP and a failing Tory government.

Come to a surgery: 2nd Saturday of the month (except August) at the Town Hall. No appointment needed
My cousin is a trans man. I presume he has a cervix. I haven't asked - it's none of my business
My business is to love him & protect him from bullying.
You are better than this 🏳️⚧️
It's been great working with other young members across the city to get this organised.

When i first moved to Uni and my newly found friends didn't thank the driver automatically I was floored. I'm definitely guilty of hauling one or two back for them to say cheers...
Very happy to say that I'll be standing for re-election to the National Policy Forum this year, alongside other grassroots candidates!
I'd be grateful for the chance to keep speaking up for members at the NPF for another two years. CLP nominations close on 28th June 🌹
The responses below Ruby's tweet just go to show that the gender critical movement has absolutely nothing to do with "protecting women". Insulting young women on twitter doesnt make you a feminist.
The GC movement is a hate movement. Solidarity with all my trans comrades ✊️
If this is true, it's absolutely vile treatment of Diane and makes a mockery of our party's internal democracy.
There's a General Election on. We in the Labour Party should be fighting the Tories, not eachother.
One of New Labours greatest achievements was lifting hundreds of thousands of children out of poverty.
Its a moral imperative that the coming Labour Government do the same, and its starts with universal free school meals + scrapping the 2 child cap.
@charilaou_alex
Solidarity Alex, everyone can see how much work you put in around this, can only imagine how exhausting it must be.
Its been really heartening to see so many LS/YL candidates on the right side of this. Can't wait to cast my vote for you ✊️
@QueensSpeechUK
@MurrowLabour
It is tragic what these middle class out-of-touch ex-uni student MPs have done to Labour. The founder of the Party Keir Hardie defended the suffragettes when the young Liberals attacked them this modern lot would be attacking the women.
in all of the recent events here at LULC, it can be easy to forget our fallen heroes. so in this time of new beginnings, and new tables, let’s take a moment to remember our fallen comrade : the old table 🌹❤️😪
I'm lucky to have a really supportive (+ small!) close circle, and my political activity to distract me from the worst of it, but the past few months have been bloody awful.
I just wanted to post this to remind anyone else out there who's going through 3/?
she leaves. That fact is hitting me like a punch to the gut and I'm not really sure what to do with that information.
I'm not posting this for sympathy, but rather to encourage you to let your loved ones know how much you appreciate them tonight. 2/?
We passed a motion at our meeting this week to fill the Labour Club's vacant Honorary President position.
Given the size of the LULC Leeds contingent, it's no surprise that Marcelo Bielsa was chosen to fill the role in recognition of his contributions to football and socialism
I’m sorry but how much does a slice of toast or a bowl of supermarket brand cereal cost to feed your child? Not much.
It’s ridiculous that taxpayers are having to fund free breakfast clubs.
It’s time parents took more responsibility for their own children.
This isn't a shocker to anyone who campaigned in 2019. Worse weather absolutely kills our ground game (ie. Our biggest advantage).
That shouldn't be an issue if the party values its members and inspires them to get out on the doorstep.
Industrial action in Leeds has now been postponed. We will continue to run a limited service throughout today with last buses around 19:00. We aim to return to a full service from Tuesday 20 June. A huge thank you to our customers for your patience. Further info to follow.
