Canada's conservative movement is surprisingly full of gay people. For @TheHubCanada , I wrote about how this group differs from the mainstream LGBT movement and how we can help our society come to a more stable settlement on issues of family and culture.

I'm a #bced teacher. We've been teaching in person since June 2020 with few closures, and we've seen very little school-driven COVID transmission. Having schools open means that my students are happy, safe, and actually learning. #OntEd kids deserve the same.

There is a Jewish nursing home in Vancouver that didn't want MAiD performed within its walls because it was traumatizing for the elderly Holocaust survivors who live there. Ellen Wiebe snuck in and performed a MAiD procedure anyways.

I've been reluctant to comment on this, but given that @HaltonDSB & the #onted public school system is defending it, it's worth saying: This is wrong. The only thing that kids in this class are learning is that adults will always put their interests last.

It's also not true that #OntEd schools are under-funded and therefore at greater risk of transmission. NDP-governed #BCed spends ~20% less per student than PC-governed Ontario. There is no good excuse to keep schools closed any longer.

It's also not necessarily a political thing. BC has an NDP government that hasn't done much of the mitigation that #BCed and #OntEd unions are demanding, but our schools have been open with relatively little transmission. It's the same in Conservative-governed #abed .

The First Amendment as an all-purpose magic internet law finds itself in a Canadian court, where the judge is not amused

The Globe: Let's have an economic system in which both parents need to work full time and childcare is left to teachers and daycare workers. Also The Globe: If parents don't know everything their kids are doing at school, it's all their fault and the schools shouldn't tell them.

I really believe teaching is a noble job. Parents entrust their kids to us. They let us take on part of their responsibility to raise them up and educate them. Why are so many in my profession willing to betray this sacred trust and make it all about themselves?

Strongly recommend this podcast episode from two doctors who believe in vaccines and take COVID seriously but also acknowledge the trade-offs of certain measures for kids. Thanks to @TracyBethHoeg & @kwadwo777 for your courage & care for kids' well-being. #bced #bcpoli #covid19bc

@CHCOntario @TorontoStar @HBKidsHospital @EmpoweredKidsON @SickKidsNews @CHEO @kidsmentalhlth @mch_childrens @KidsHealthAllnc There is no evidence that these mask mandates reduce transmission in schools. As a teacher, I see how forced masking harms students' learning and overall wellbeing, and can tell you it's especially bad for kids with are learning English or who have disabilities. Stop the theatre.

I've noticed that defences of using the phrase "settler" to describe other Canadians generally claim that it's a neutral descriptor with no negative connotations. Those defences are mixed in with takes like these ones.

I'm a Grade Two teacher in #abed . I'm grateful for @ABDanielleSmith 's strong stance here. Masking kids harms their learning and mental health, and there's very little evidence that it actually reduces the (already low) risk that COVID poses to children. #ableg

People are wondering why this wasn't already in the BC curriculum. It's because BC has an "inquiry-based" curriculum focused on developing "core competencies" like "personal and social awareness" rather than on actually teaching young people any content. #bced

It says something about Canadian academic culture that the people who represent TAs, post-doc students, and some of the instructors would celebrate the massacre of innocent Jews.

@maxfawcett Max, do you know what percentage of Torstar, The Globe and Mail, and LaPresse's payroll is paid for through federal and provincial payroll subsidies? QC has a v generous program, so it seems likely we're approaching the point where most of LaPresse's payroll comes from the State.

Thanks to @TheHubCanada for publishing my article on the new #bced mask mandate for kids. We don't have much evidence that forced masking for kids actually reduces COVID risks, but it does harm their learning & mental health. I'll expand on a few points here. #bcpoli #cdnpoli 🧵
