Seeing some wild tweets from MDs saying they won’t see pts that are unmasked. My sisters are dentists that have been seeing pts most of the pandemic. We intubate covid pts and they certainly aren’t wearing a mask. We’re professionals. It’s time to act like it.
I want as many ppl vaccinated as possible but this talk of limiting care for the unvaxxed is wrong. I can’t get behind it. We need clear messaging & we need compassion to get through this. Let’s avoid the us vs them mentality. We’re in this together.

I want to remind ppl that we are shutting everything down while having 4 cases in ICU. Remember also a portion of these will be incidental. This isn’t right.

For those against removing restrictions, when would you feel comfortable?
What’s the long term plan?
What’s the sustainable approach for when we see future variants? Is the answer lockdowns, school closures etc? IMHO we need better solutions.

says that schools "should be an essential service" and that closing them down has been shown to have a detrimental impact on kids' mental and physical health. "If we can keep Amazon factories open, if we can keep malls open, we can serve our kids," he said.
I’ve wanted to say this for awhile, I underestimated the 3rd wave. I thought with vaccinating our most vulnerable and coming into the spring, we’d be ok. I’m saying this to be accountable and hopefully this will be an example for others.

Mayor Eric Adams of New York City insisted schools would remain open despite surging Omicron cases in the city. He said remote learning has been too damaging, especially to children in low-income neighborhoods and homeless students.

1. I’ve had a string of tweets that were fairly emotional as I was watching the press conference. There’s a lot of emotion cause I’m thinking about my kids. I truly believe they deserve better.
I’m very pro-vaccine.
This is what prevents you from landing in ICU.
But vaccinated ppl are still swabbing positive for
#omicron
.
This can’t be an argument for adding restrictions.
So many ppl have stepped up and done the right thing. What message are we sending?
I still haven’t had a clear answer on what’s the endgame.
Do we have the same framework with the next variant?
How is this sustainable?
We are 2 years in, highly vaccinated and we are still relying on restrictions? Also, isn’t the cat out of the bag?

OPINION: Lockdowns are no longer acceptable 2 years into the pandemic in Ontario
I think this is a bad precedent.
It isn’t consistent with PH.
This demographic is extremely low risk.
Most will have hybrid immunity.
Myocarditis risk.
From an EDI perspective, many in marginalized communities are hesitant.
This is a step backwards

I personally have NOT taken care of a ventilated covid pt since January. The landscape has changed. This is why many of us have been saying it’s safe to move on.
To all the ID docs, hospitalists, and intensivists out there:
How many patients do you think you’ve had in the last 6 months who had respiratory failure requiring high-flow 02 or mechanical ventilation primarily because of Covid-19?
So Drs agree tennis is cool yet can’t agree on the urgency to find a way, any way, to get kids back in school to protect their mental well being? the devastating loss of learning? Quite something that they are ok w all the eating disorders, depression and increased suicide.
1. Our youngest had his 1st week of daycare. He’s been so shy around others. He’s spent half his life distancing from other kids. Even after his 1st we saw a change in him. He was glowing. He was happy. He was Zeke.
Agree our healthcare system is stretched. Vaccination especially for high risk population is essential. But despite high case counts, I haven’t seen a critically ill covid pt in a longtime. I’m seeing no reason to panic.
Greetings from the ICU.
Today is day 1000 since Toronto's first covid patient walked through the doors. Cases are rising again. Fall could be tricky. Our health care system is on life joke.Take care. Get vaxxed .You definitely don't want to run into me. ✌️
Rumors are percolating that we’ll be shutting down kids activities on top extending school closures. We need to do better for our youth. They’ve suffered enough. They’ve also got vaxxed. Solutions like test to stay using rapid testing needs to be considered.

There’s alot of chatter about adding restrictions as a result of the high covid rates in the community.
We cant cont to live in fear
Despite high levels in the community we’re not seeing this proportional reflected in our hospitals. As I wrote this we have 2 cases in ICU.

There’s been a lot of tension on Twitter of late and it’s been a challenge trying have civil dialogue.
What if we pivot?
What if we find common ground for ways we can exit this pandemic?
I’m okay with diversity in opinion but I take offense when using bipoc/marginalized communities to push an agenda. It’s disingenuous and distasteful. Were these same folks advocating for equity when times were tough? For example when schools were closed?
There is a moral urgency to protect all students & staff, including those who are most vulnerable.

3. I think of the lack of hope ppl have despite doing everything they’ve been asked. Honestly, I’m just sad. Sad cause I honestly think there’s a better way. We’ve been at this for 20 months and we aren’t adapting.
I can’t agree with this more. Our kids have suffered too much.
Come Jan, we need a plan.
Is it test to stay?
Is it a more endemic approach?
Whatever it is, let’s ensure no further school closures. Period.

Legit question, what’s the data telling us schools aren’t safe? What’s the data to support 12-17 yos getting boosters?Im assuming if you’re asking for this, mandating vaccines for teachers will happen? Many of have been taking care of covid pts didnt have this level of requirements
2. I can’t help to think of the families that are on the margins and have already gone through so much. I think of our kids mental and physical health. I think of the business owners.
The attacks on Martha Fulford have disappointed me in so many ways. Especially from our medical community that should know better. Remember, she is a frontline HCP that’s cared for covid pts and advocated for our kids when many sat on the sidelines.

People lie and there is no accountability

It's time to heal the divisions over vaccination in our families, in our communities and in our province.
Today, we announced the end of the proof of vaccination/negative test policy effective February 14, 2022 at 12:01 a.m.
The message needs to be consistent and clear.

4. All this to say, my tweet storm may have upset some but it came from a good place, from a doc that’s seen the devastating impacts of covid and our response to covid.
What upsets me is that pieces like this are being embraced by MSM without the consideration of an exit strategy. We can’t do this forever. This isnt a solution

. I went into medicine – HIV specifically – and public health to protect our most at-risk. CDC is taking steps to protect those at highest risk, incl. those w/ chronic health conditions, disabilities & older adults.
My thoughts on the lack of extracurricular activities in schools.
Our kids stepped up and got vaccinated. There are plenty of activities that are low-risk(track&field).
Many families can't afford activities outside of school. Lets do the right thing.Kids have gone through enough
