Been thinking about positive affect (joy,laughter,happiness) and how we can support those experiences early in development. This project w/
@K_L_Humphreys
@MEDVanderbilt
is 1 result of this inquiry, focusing on caregivers' positive emotion socialization🧵
"Most people giving advice are just telling *you* to do what worked for *them*" = one of the quotes from

This is one of those times, where life feels full circle. I first presented my research on ND's campus as a middle schooler participating in the local science fair. Yes, I have the receipts.
This means I get to keep pursuing research questions related to emotions in caregivers and their children to ultimately support mental health in families. My main project also focuses on shared position emotions and so there will be lots of

during baby EEGs
Had a great time presenting my research on affective processes characteristic to depression and depression risk to

The other day I officially packed up my desk at Purdue... finding all of these old messages sure made it more bitter than sweet. Here's to the best of colleagues, friends, and mentors @…
Lady: What do you do?
Me: I am a PhD student in clinical psychology
Lady: Oh. My son is a MD student. He is so busy. Twice as busy as you. If you think you are busy, he is busy.
....
1st of all: What?
2nd of all: There is no medal for that.
Very much missed meeting up with science friends this year at

conference. Grateful to still hear about great science virtually and ever the more excited for the next time

There are certainly many people to thank, my mentors
@Dan_Foti
@K_L_Humphreys
@MEDVanderbilt
and at
@butleru
who have prepared me for this opportunity, and my family, friends, and colleagues who supported the whole venture. There really aren't words
In a culture where almost every meeting is prefaced by discussing current events, it becomes PAINFULLY evident when certain events don’t get discussed. You walk away feeling collectively gaslit by the larger academic community in which you are trying to belong
Maintaining relationships outside your program is essential, even if they have no idea what your work looks like. Also, yeesss great advisors and mentors make all of the difference.
Grateful to be a part of this special issue! Led by
@K_L_Humphreys
, we focus on 3 areas within caregiving relationships (see figure!), review current findings, and propose future directions

I am thrilled to join a department of folks doing great science, be close to my family, and serve in the community I grew up in. Still feeling a bit stunned that everything came together this way
@jacasiegel
Someone recommended to me to write my dedication in advance. I think they did theirs a month ahead. I did about a week before and it really shifted my perspective. Lots of gratefulness for the journey and the supporters and mentors. It helped me focus there instead of nervousness
I later completed my clinical internship at ND. I think back to conversations I had with students often, and look forward to continuing to support students in my new role.
We are so happy to announce that we were just awarded an

Today is the first time I have had a quiet work space (thanks ☀️), and I'm learning my brain isn't sludge! Turns out it makes a difference if I am not working (a) amidst toddler+child+general house chaos or (b) in the middle of the night. This is great news for my dissertation.
Congratulations Elizabeth! So glad that the collective effort to have her name be acknowledged for generations via a clinical excellence award came together and brought such a huge smile! It has been such a privilege being your student.
Tonight we had a wonderful evening celebrating the retirement of Dr. Elizabeth Akey who has several as the director of our training clinic and a linchpin of our internal practica. Congratulations on your retirement Elizabeth! You will be missed!

Clinical psychology graduate student Lisa Hamrick (research advisor: Bridgette Kelleher) has been awarded the Academy of Psychological Clinical Science (APCS) Clinical Science Student Training Award to support her training in gold-standard diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder.
@DrBKelleher
Absolutely! I remember throwing up from morning sickness as I got ready for my dissertation proposal... but my mental focus was more on the super human (aka mom) powers needed to successfully complete the task at hand.
We are delighted to welcome Yinru, our newest Ph.D. student! Yinru is interested in identity stress and resilience models in adolescence and using multimodal methods to personalize psychological interventions. She also enjoys music and is working on her jazz/Lo-Fi hip-hop album.
Congratulations to Kimberly Galvez-Ortega, graduate student in the Clinical Psychology PhD Program who was awarded a Summer Research Fellowship from the Purdue Autism Research Center. We look forward to learning from your important work!
Congrats to Keisha Novak (

I feel this so hard. The work time we work so hard to secure is not the same type of work time we are used to pre-pandemic. Feels like this.
Excited to see the work of undergraduate researchers today at the
