May the force be with us! Han, Luke and Leia made their public debut today. These young Asian small-clawed otters join siblings Connor, Clover and Otis along with mom Cai and dad Ian on exhibit in Tropics. They still have a lot of swim lessons ahead to master their abilities!
A female Masai giraffe was born to mom Makali on Sunday, June 30! The calf weighs in at 125 pounds and already stands 5 feet 6 inches tall. It will be a while before this adorable girl makes her public debut, but we will keep fans updated on the Zoo’s social media pages!
Obi and Nokopo are not just cuties, this son and mother are incredible ambassadors for the Matschie’s tree kangaroo species, which is native to the cloud forests of the Huon Peninsula of northeastern New Guinea.

Obi achieved a big goal! The tree kangaroos are taught how to voluntary participate in medical checkups like stepping on the scale through positive reinforcement. Obi recently ventured onto the scale for the first time without needing his mom by his side!

The baby has arrived! Zuri, a critically endangered eastern black rhinoceros, gave birth to an adorable calf in the early morning hours on December 31.
There are only about 740 of this type of rhino left in the wild so this birth is important for the subspecies as a whole!
Meet the two newest Zoo babies! Rock hyrax pups Latte and Espresso were born to mom Idaho and dad Perseus on July 12. This female and male are getting accustomed to their natural climbing ability, and you might see then atop rocks with mom!

We are swimming with excitement to announce the birth of two North American river otter pups! Born to 5-year-old Ursula on March 4, the pups are currently behind the scenes, but we will keep you posted when they are introduced to their main habitat and viewable to the public!

Last week, we asked you to vote on the name of Makali's calf, and "Willow" is the winner! Although Willow will nurse from mom anywhere from 6 months to a year, she is starting to act like her mama and explore the diet of the adult giraffes.
Our giraffe herd just grew by four hooves. On Tuesday, September 3, at 3:50 pm, mom Lizzie gave birth to a baby giraffe. The calf weighed in at 111 lbs and already stands 5' 6" tall.

The Kansas City Zoo is thrilled to announce that a critically endangered male Bornean orangutan was born on Monday, May 8, to mother Josie. Both mom and son appear healthy and are doing well. Stay tuned on our social media channels for updates!
We had a beautiful Thanksgiving surprise this year! On the evening of Nov. 24, a gentoo penguin chick began pipping and soon hatched the following day. We are happy to announce that Shirley and Honker are the proud parents to our new little addition, Turducken!

It’s three times the cuteness on Tiger Trail! Our red panda parents, Randy and Kate, welcomed three cubs on July 11. The youngsters will stay in the nest box for a few months and their genders are unknown at this point, but we hope to announce them very soon!
What kid doesn't like playing in the hose? Ten-month-old North American river otter Ursula sure does. Behind the scenes our otters have a off exhibit pool to play in and she takes full advantage of her spa time!
Willow sampled willow for the first time! You may recall that this giraffe calf was named after willow, a tree that happens to be mom Makali’s favorite snack. While it took a few minutes for Willow to work up the courage, she emerged victorious in this snack session!

Congratulations to Matschie’s tree kangaroo Nokopo on her new joey!💙 It’s a boy! The joey is estimated to have been born in late May and will spend the next few months in the pouch. Nokopo is trained to participate in voluntary pouch checks to monitor the joey as it grows!

to help rehome these male otters, who were rescued as stranded pups. The lack of successful surrogates deemed them non-releasable, but they now have a home at the Aquarium. Meet them Sept. 1!
The first king penguin egg to be laid at the Zoo hatched on Sunday, January 13. The name “Blizzard” was chosen for this chick since it made its entrance into the world during one big snow storm!

Our adorable otter pups are venturing out on exhibit for the first time and this is cuteness overload you don’t want to miss! Connor and Clover, who were born in March, are getting to know their new home under the watchful eye of their parents and big brother, Otis.
We are thrilled to welcome one of our newest friends to the Zoo: Chandler! Could he BE any cooler? This sandbar shark is one of the first arrivals to the 650,000-gallon aquarium, which is scheduled to open Labor Day weekend!
🎉 Matti, a sea otter who was rescued after being orphaned as a pup, is turning one! He and his habitat buddy Owin were each treated to a tasty seafood delicacy: Dungeness crab! Matti is described as a vocal and playful boy who loves to have fun with Owin!

Thanks to the warm temperature yesterday, Maxwell was able to go on the African Safari for the first time! Our giraffes are very sensitive to the temperature, but we hope there will be a few more days this year that they can be out.

This spring, our Australasia team helped breed and hatch more than 5,000 tadpoles. All but 72 of them were sent to Wyoming to be released into their natural habitat. The toadlets that remain will continue to breed and help expand the wild population of their species.

Meet Tortellini! This green sea turtle was rescued in 2020 after she was likely struck by a boat near Florida. This accident caused buoyancy issues and she was deemed non-releasable. With the help of
