Today, Winter the Dolphin made her return to the sea. Encased in a Himalayan sea salt urn, the ashes of Winter were released into the Gulf of Mexico by her animal care staff aboard the U.S. Coast Guard’s 45-foot Response Boat.

Clearwater Marine Aquarium is now the forever home to a new non-releasable juvenile bottlenose dolphin. Known as Izzy, the female dolphin was rescued in June of 2022 by NOAA partners – the Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network, Texas State Aquarium, and SeaWorld San Antonio.

Hope was estimated to be just two months old when she was rescued on Dec. 11, 2010. The baby dolphin was found near her deceased mother in shallow water, weighing only 58 pounds and extremely dehydrated. CMA nursed her back to health and has cared for Hope since that day.

Today, on the one-year anniversary of Winter the Dolphin’s passing, we are releasing plans for a memorial garden in honor of the late Dolphin Tale star. The garden and winding pathway will feature a statue of Winter as she emerges from a water fountain.

A Florida native recently spotted Cherub, a dolphin with suspected hypo-pigmentation. It's been over a year since we've received reports of this beauty! Cherub was seen traveling with 3 other dolphins. This is a great sign, as this dolphin is suspected to be 1-2 years.

Clearwater Marine Aquarium is happy to report that we have received minimal impact from Hurricane Idalia! A ride out crew of 15 staff members stayed overnight at the aquarium to ensure the safety of our animals and our building.

In her honor, there was a C-130 flyover by the Coast Guard to begin the ceremony-at-sea. A poem was read in her memory before her ashes were released. Flowers were also released into the Gulf and the team blew bubbles, honoring one of Winter’s favorite enrichment activities.

Did you know PJ is the oldest dolphin at CMA? She will be the first to be introduced to Apollo. As an older, maternal female, PJ would benefit from the chance to nurture a young dolphin and Apollo would benefit from the interaction and natural social structure it would provide.

CMA's Rescue Team responded to a distressed dolphin calf on Clearwater Beach today. The calf was found entangled in the remains of a crab trap near Pier 60. The team attempted a release to reconnect it with its mother in the wild.

Today, we released a rehabilitated green sea turtle hatchling into the Gulf of Mexico. The hatchling was rescued by CMA’s Sea Turtle Nesting Team during daily patrols after appearing lethargic and injured.
After a month of TLC, this guy was cleared to return home!
