Moms for Liberty chapters across Iowa endorsed 13 candidates in the 2023 school board races. Out of the 13, a single candidate won in the I35 school district; a rural district with fewer than 1000 students.
The most Christ-like thing anyone can do, the way to be the brightest light in the darkness, is to feed hungry children. If you have the ability to do so and refuse, you are deliberately disobeying one of Christ’s clearest demands. “Let the children be fed first” Mark 7:27
Yes it does. There is a well known link between dollars available for food and childhood obesity. And it’s in the exact opposite direction that Reynolds is asserting.
I trust Iowans to make their own decisions*
*except for decisions about their bodies, their medical care, their children’s medical care, what books their kids can have at school, etc
Sen Donahue just mentioned that a young trans man in Iowa over the last few days took his life, and that these bills are partially responsible. No Republican acknowledged this. No consolation. Nothing. They moved the bill and proudly voted it through. I feel sick.
It’s embarrassing to have to say this, but an amendment introduced at 2am on a Saturday that the public has never seen, that the public has no ability to give comment on, passed under the cover of night, does not scream “representative democracy” to me.
Freedom!*
*unless you want to smoke pot
*unless you need an abortion
*unless you’re a trans kid
*unless you want to read Canterbury Tales in the school library
*unless you’re assaulted for being trans

Iowa’s profile is rising & it’s time we had a brand that shows it!
The landscape & road to the horizon is a familiar scene & represents a journey to opportunity.
“Freedom to Flourish” sends a motivating message that in Iowa, there are unlimited opportunities for you to succeed!
The year is 2030. The HyVee and Fareway paramilitaries are deadlocked in a fight for the wind farms in Northwest Iowa. Governor Skyler Wheeler attempts to quell the conflict by sending in the Iowa Pork Producers Guard but they’re quickly intercepted and overwhelmed by Aldi rebels
What’s happening in the Iowa legislature is horrifying but what’s happening in the Iowa queer community is actually incredible. There are new activists finding their voices every day. New coalitions being built. New groups coming out and organizing those around them.

Iowa teens could work longer hours and more jobs, including those formerly off-limits as being hazardous, and serve alcohol under a controversial bill advanced Wednesday by House Republicans.

Given last night I would be surprised if Moms for Liberty Iowa ever publicly endorses candidates again. I’m sure they won’t go away by any means, but their brand is so irreparably damaged that I can’t imagine otherwise competitive candidates wanting that weight around their neck.
Was just at Drake to see an anti-LGBTQ ADF attorney who litigated Dobbs. About 75% of the crowd was student protestors. FedSoc canceled the event. Student protestors offered to debate FedSoc students on the topic. FedSoc declined and sent everyone home.
It's wild to me how many folks will talk a big game about not being beholden to out of state special interests and then this dude is in all their photos.
I will never back down from the radical left’s efforts to diminish the success of female athletes. Happy National Girls and Women in Sports Day!

Make no mistake, the governor hid from us. She knew we wouldn’t allow her to have her public signing full of nothing but smiling faces. These bills hurt real families. I assure the governor she will continue to hear from them.
If you don't care about children dying by suicide then you don't care about children period. If hearing that your actions are likely to increase the risk of multiple children dying from suicide doesn't make you reconsider your behavior at all, then you should not be a legislator.
Unless you’re black. Or brown. Or trans. Or gay. Or Muslim. Or Jewish. Or disabled. Or immunocompromised. Or poor.
If you’re a wealthy able bodied straight cis white Christian, good times to be had.
Iowa’s national profile is rising - even
@usnews
is taking notice!
Iowa places in the Top 10 for: Best States, Opportunity, Health Care Access, Higher Education, Employment, Energy, Affordability, Fiscal Stability, and Long-Term Fiscal Stability!
During the Iowa House subcommittee on the Iowa Senate's bill to ban mislabeling of meat products, Rep. Mike Sexton said if it were up to him he would ban the sale of fake meat in Iowa and prevent it from being brought across state lines.
THREAD: The AEA system is FAILING our Students with Disabilities. State & National scores show it and the U.S Dept. of Education has flagged Iowa as “Needs Assistance.” 1/3
FYI: Two Men and a Truck Des Moines is a sponsor of the Family Leadership Summit, an event put on by a hate group (as defined by SPLC) where the Governor will be signing her abortion ban into law.
75% of accredited private schools in Iowa indicate in some way that they would discriminate against LGBTQ Iowans, and those same schools can now receive public dollars.
You know what would really help fill all those jobs? An influx of additional workers to the state. You know how we get those workers? Inclusive policies, investing in our young people, and improving quality of life so that people actually *want* to move here.
New CDC “community levels” are out
Under the pre-Feb 25, 2022 guidance, universal indoor masking would be recommended in 46% of counties. Under the modified guidance, universal indoor masking is recommended in less than 1% of counties.
Bob I just want you to know: this legislation will kill children. We are trying to keep them alive. I don't know why that isn't your priority, but it's mine, and I'd appreciate if you stopped trying to make that harder.
As the

, I just want to remind us of a few things:
You are fearfully and wonderfully made.
Before He formed you in the womb, He knew you.
Children are a heritage from the Lord.
The only way the government is taking “too much of your money” is if every road and bridge is in good condition, every school fully funded, every child well fed, etc.
To be clear, this is not a piece of legislation that will actually help anyone. This is what the Governor does any time her policy priorities are faltering: she attacks trans people to rally her base. Since her AEA bill is a disaster, she's bringing out the greatest hits.
1. Just released: Governor Kim Reynolds has proposed legislation mandating that trans people have BOTH gender markers on drivers license (M/F).
It would also end all recognition for trans people.

I have not and did not call any Representative a coward. I said that banning things simply because they make us uncomfortable is an act of cowardice. If anyone self selected themselves into that group that's on them not me.

Hate to say “I told you so” but we all knew it was coming. Banning 1984 from school libraries is about as fascist as it can get. I explicitly said several of these would be banned and was told I was overreacting by legislators.

Attacking someone for having a stroke is pretty awful. Pointing out that “I had a stroke and now I’m conservative” is pretty irrational seems fair game.

New from

: Gov. Kim Reynolds announced Iowa will start a competitive $900,000 grant program to feed Iowa children over the summer—this comes months after she declined $29 million in federal funds to feed kids via a different summer program.
Iowa is facing a new lawsuit from Penguin Random House, the Iowa State Education Association and bestselling authors like John Green and Jodi Picoult. They're suing to block the state's new law banning books that depict sex acts from schools.
Would be nice for at least a few leaders in the Iowa Republican Party to say out loud that calling people pedophiles and groomers simply for being LGBTQ is unacceptable. Haven’t heard it though.
Something that hasn't been pointed out about this often enough: it contains an immediate enactment clause. This is going to force these kids to quit their team in the middle of the school year. They are devastated. Their parents are devastated. I have no words.
Y’all.
Senator Cavanaugh. Is. Still. Going.
Republicans in Nebraska are going to let the senate stay shut down because they just can’t go without hurting trans kids.
Senator Cavanaugh’s 3 week filibuster has been INSPIRATIONAL.
You are a hero, Senator Cavanaugh.
There were more people at the LGBTQ rallies this week than at all of these Republican presidential events combined. Iowans know the difference between grassroots and astroturf.
⛅️ Good morning from Davenport where Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis will appear alongside Iowa Gov Kim Reynolds promoting his new book. DeSantis has not announced he’s running for President but is expected to later this year. He’ll also be in Des Moines today.

Maybe the reason lots of young people are coming out as transgender is because they are transgender and people aren't demanding that they be something they aren't. Maybe, just maybe, the numbers aren't now artificially high, but before they were *artificially low*.
She also called me a liar and said Bridges of Madison County doesn't contain descriptions of sex acts. I present to you: sex acts described in Bridges of Madison County. These would violate SF496 as written.
Madison County Supervisor Heather Stancil spoke in favor of the bill but she wants it to go a step further.
Currently as written, only parents/guardians can request books to be banned but she wants that opened up to the general public.
Heritage asks you to pass policy to give wads of cash to rich parents, you pass policy, Heritage gives you award for passing policy, congratulate yourself for award.
I truly believe that School Choice will be the most consequential change to our education system in decades. Not only in Iowa, but across the country.
And it’s already paying off!
Okay I'm not the kind that normally toots my own horn but I think I may be the first out nonbinary person to moderate a presidential forum. So...toot toot y'all.
Gotta say after the past few weeks, some of the best people to have on your side are librarians.
If the librarians are against you, you’re probably wrong.
Remember when the Speaker of the House said they weren’t interested in LGBTQ issues this session? Like literally 4 weeks ago? Anyway now we have 40 anti-LGBTQ bills.
It's rare for any book for women to tell the truth about how their options shrink with age, or how pickiness about most characteristics reflects an entitlement most cannot afford, or how regretful many women are who never marry. If I was trying to convince someone to settle down
This woman praised Vivek for his plan to dissolve the US Department of Education.
She then asked if he would also get rid of teachers' unions because she says they aren't teaching kids the pledge of allegiance because they're so focused on CRT and gender issues.
Because government intervention is the only demonstrated way to solve child hunger. Charities have tried and failed. And ultimately, kids are hungry through no fault of their own. They deserve to eat. We can feed them. So we should. It’s that simple.
Imagine that you believe abortion is murder. Imagine you have the ability to stop some of those murders, but instead of doing that you wait two whole days so that you can get credit for doing something on camera. That’d make you some kind of monster, hypothetically speaking.
The Heartbeat Bill is now the law of the land!
Despite the abortion industry’s best attempts, Iowa is protecting the most innocent and defenseless lives!
@tt_dubs
Yes they allowed people to get assistance without being formally endorsed. It was on their questionnaire! But they were rebuffed all across the state, formally and informally.
This is one of the most horrible identity theft stories I’ve ever heard. The victim was literally imprisoned in a mental institution and medicated because he insisted he was who he was.
This is substantially more income than my household. If you’re making that much you don’t need handouts for private school, let alone if you’re making more. Let’s put our dollars in public schools everyone can attend.
Revealed: The average voucher family moving from public to private schools makes $128,507.
Private school vouchers help the wealthiest Iowans.

My dude, treating employees with basic respect at work and having a policy of not using slurs is *checks notes* the bare minimum if you want to not be sued for a hostile workplace environment. This isn’t wokeism, it’s basic HR. Read a book.
This kind of stuff coming from a committee chair is beyond satire. We have left the realm of simple disagreement long ago and have entered the territory of fully deranged conspiracies which will gut Iowa's schools, universities, and places of employment.
Governor Reynolds has proclaimed March 19 – 25 as Optimal Health for Adolescents Week. Adolescence is a transitional and transformative time in a young person’s life and health. Learn more about the Iowa HHS adolescent health program:
Legislators and two governors on stage passed policies that lead to a wave of youth suicides, and they think the upsetting part is that people are yelling. I’m more worried about the people who aren’t yelling.
I'm not sure how to describe how disturbing it is to watch the machinery of the state begin to forcibly eliminate trans people. Iowa is in the early stages but it didn't take other states much longer.
Utter chaos. Overnight students that have been using bathrooms that match their gender identity for over a decade are being forced into different facilities. Nonsensical, harmful, dangerous.
