My favourite story of the weekend - the sheer number of U20/23 athletes breaking into the medals and finals in high quality fields. Lughaidh Mallon, Andrew Cooper, Dara Donoghue, Sean Aighboboh, Katie Bergin, Donal Martin, Conor Penney to name a few. The future is in good hands👏

Don’t think I’m alone in thinking we need more high quality BMC style races in Ireland. Many Irish athletes travel to English BMC meets, (costing €€), appetite is there. IMC, while absolutely great (this is no hate), has massively reduced fixtures in recent years.
6 out of 12 Brits in Diamond League Final are 800-5000m athletes.
Sunday, 20% of 5th Avenue mile fields are British.

You can’t convince me that allowing athletes a by is a good idea. Always have appreciated the relative fairness of athletics in champs. This creates greater divides between the athletes.
45.26 winning the “heats” and these lads have to go again at 12pm tomorrow. However, the top 12 have a rest day today. Such a disadvantage for the athletes who have to run the heats.
