I stopped on the Northland Road heading in the wrong direction. Gave him a lift home. “Do I know you?” He said.
“Yes, you taught me history at the College,” I replied.
Sad news that Magherafelt Harrier Kevin Murphy passed away this morning following what is thought to be a heart attack. Condolences to Kevin’s family and friends. Ar deis Dé go raibh a anam.

Spare a thought for

So sorry to hear of Oliver McCullagh passing away earlier today. Race director and originator of Greencastle 5M - longest continuous road race in NI/Ulster. Condolences to wife Mary, daughter Olivia, and sons, Pierce and Connor.
@C4Ciaran
Great work, Ciarán. I don’t know what we’d do for investigative journalism without
@Channel4News
, a beacon of sanity in a country out of Lewis Carroll.
Huge crowds turned out today to say farewell to the late Oliver McCullagh, race director of the Greencastle 5M, who was interred in his native parish in County Tyrone. May he rest in peace.
The six minute rule: ‘If you don’t feel like exercising just go out for six minutes, then you can go home.’
The thing is no one you ever does - the hardest bit with exercise is getting started.

This is compulsory reading for everyone involved in our sport. Don’t kid yourself that it isn’t going on in NI/IRL. It’s not just Senior athletes and how many people are hiding behind TUEs?
Eilish is now just behind Michelle Finn’s 9:38.04 in February 2020. OQ is 9:30.00 but should move the Tyrone woman into one of the spots for the Olympics. Only 19 women have standard. 45 to run.
Mark McKinstry retains his M35 title with a runaway 30 second victory at the British and Ireland Masters International at Aintree in a lightening fast 24:51 for the 8km
Nick Griggs had to overcome personal grief to win the national Junior 3000m in Dublin on Saturday. Joshua Griggs, Tyrone GAA player dies in Banbridge road accident -

IMHO Donegal, or for that matter any county, records should only be set by athletes born or resident a prerequisite period in that particular county. Roisin Flanagan sets new Donegal 5k road record in America.
Sad news of the death of John Nuttall (56) - husband of Liz McColgan - heart attack. At his best 3:40/3:58/7:36/13:16 times. Sympathy is extended to
@Lizmccolgan
and Nuttall family.
Looks like we have a double celebration.
@scullion262
's 2:09:49 may also be an Irish record as well as a NI best mark ever. Fastest previous time ratified by an Irish man was John Treacy's 2:09:57 in winning the silver medal in LA Olympics.
Great stuff. Confirmation that Nick Griggs set a new Irish Youths’ 5000m record at the

meeting last weekend. Big respect for
@JohnBlacko
, Seamie McCann, and everyone involved in its organisation.
The gold medals just keep on coming for Ireland - no 3 of the day (4th of

champs) for Nick Griggs. From 1970 until this year Ireland had only won 3 gold medals - now it’s 7!
Brilliant win by Senior team at the All Ireland Schools Cross Country Championships today in Clongowes Wood College in Kildare .Magnificent Miceal McCaul takes a Superb individual bronze, becoming the first St Colman’s athlete ever to take a n individual medal in the Senior race
What a fortnight for

. National Senior XC champions and now National Novice XC team gold medalists. Can they complete the clean sweep by taking the Inter team title? Of course they can!
Following a look at Zatopek’s training. Here are a few sample weeks of Lasse Viren’s training in the lead up to his 5000/10,000m double in Munich. He was coached by Rolf Haikkola and you can see the influence of Arthur Lydiard.
It’s sad that it had to end this way on the track for such a great athlete.But he commands so much respect for the way in which he handles this very difficult interview. Good luck with whatever the future has in store for you

This is getting to be embarrassing - the number of tracks opening in the RoI in comparison with the dearth of facilities in NI. Not a single synthetic track in Armagh or Fermanagh, Tyrone (1), Derry (2), Antrim (3), Down (2). Is there one in Lisburn?

Congratulating Bobby Farren was Patsy McCrystal who won the Ulster Senior XC in the early 1950s. His defeat of the legendary Martin Egan at Kilfennan Sports is still talked about here: The Athletic Great Derry never knew it had!

Think of all those people who raised money for the charity, maybe bust their backsides running marathons etc., only to find out now that it was used to jet Ian Jnr across the Atlantic for another jolly at great expense.
Uruguay:
This goalkeeper just won a match against his former team.
Instead of celebrating - he invited a fan with Down's Syndrome on to the field to take a penalty kick.

“You could be right - it was a long time ago, “ I admitted.
