This is my grandfather’s Menorah which he buried before his murder by the Germans in Auschwitz. My father dug it up after coming home from slavery, genocide and attempted community destruction. I light it today and it lights for eternity.

He was born in Pany in the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1874. He moved to the US to be with older siblings in 1888. Returned to Hungary in 1898. Eight children. Was a proud Hungarian Jew. Owned Vineyards and a winery in Tallya, in Tokaj. Never thought Auschwitz could be.

Thank you. I say Kaddish for him on Shavuot because that is the day my father last saw my grandfather. Because the Nazis made it a point to round up and execute Jews around our Holidays, on those days many (now fewer) people say Kaddish for murdered and incinerated loved ones.
