Directed a new music video. Shot on Kodak double perf 16mm 7219 (500T).
I wanted to up my game when it came to texture, hard lighting, and color separation.
I was also able to hand crank the camera to achieve 6fps glory.
I love shooting film!!!!
When I was 14, I couldn’t afford blood squibs… so I made my own. I strapped a metal chest to my plate, then taped a blood bag and a firecracker to the plate.
Very dangerous. Very stupid.
Also, don’t judge how crappy the footage looks. I WAS 14.
@ErickWeber
Why are you mad at a director being able to express themselves without studio meddling? Especially at such a wonderful budget. This is a rarity. Celebrate it.
@SPLENDOR1999
It’s almost as if you decided to skip over this one to prove some pretentious point. Which is funny as this sole image negates your entire point AND IT CAME FROM THE SAME VIDEO.
Anyways, I’m sorry these people aren’t as cool as you.
@intothecrevasse
Hey, this person's really excited about the effect. Why not point them to the direction of other films that use it? Surely that would excite Mario more.
I'm thrilled to release my newest action short, 4 GRAVES FOR XIMENA!

SCREENWRITERS! STOP DOING THESE THINGS! I asked friends who are 100% real and work in development and asked what they are tired of seeing in scripts. Here are there answers:
Typing. Real scripts are hand written.
Sluglines
Plot
Character arcs
Dialogue
Grammar
Humans

Growing up, I was told that doing action cinema was less than. That the only way I can be a real filmmaker is if I make a quiet character study. It caused me to develop a chip in my shoulder.
Because of
@bigbadfilmfest
, the chip is gone. Thank you for giving me the confidence.
This was a truly magnificent print. One of the best I’ve ever seen in my life. The shadows really popped out of the screen. The darkness swallows you whole. Much better looking than the 4K blu ray or the IMAX print I saw 2 years ago.
@newbeverly
continues to astound me.
This is getting more attention than expected. I am now anxious this is the only footage of mine people are seeing!!
Here is my director’s reel. Lots of sunsets. Lots of neon. Lots of blood. And a shit ton of action at the end.
I’m directing a martial arts film with choreography by
@kickassvargas
!! I’m so excited to get to collaborate with such a good friend and genius.
Also, since I’m certifiably insane, I decided to shoot it entirely on 16mm (7219).
I am honored to say that I will be screening my short film 4 GRAVES FOR XIMENA at this incredible festival. It’s a dream come true for me!

This year's shorts block is packed full of passion, fists, and maybe more plungers than we initially expected.
Watch the best of the best with much of the team's in person.

The poster for my newest short!! Filmed in Puerto Rico. About a woman defending her home from an American conglomerate that seeks to tear it down and build a hotel where it stands. A massive fuck you to colonialism while also being a blood soaked western. I hope you enjoy!
@angeliqueivette
Just finished directing a modern western in Puerto Rico. It’s called TRAPO SUCIO. About a family defending their home from an American conglomerate that seeks to tear it down and build a hotel where it stands. Updates on instagram:

I worked as a PA on Futureman and personally saw you direct. You are talented. And you inspired me with how I give notes to actors. Don’t listen to this lady
@IndieWire
Imagine walking out of a move about the murder of hundreds of thousands of innocent lives, but thinking “wow. This movie needed more fucking”
Here is the trailer for my short, TRAPO SUCIO: A MOFONGO WESTERN!
About a Puerto Rican woman defending her family home from Americans that seek to tear it down and build a hotel where it stands.
It’s a neon and blood drenched F U to colonizers.
I hope you enjoy!!!
My whole life, I’ve chased after the feeling of seeing The Matrix for the first time again. Everything Everywhere All At Once gave me that. I haven’t cried this hard in a movie in years
@CountVolpe
I once pitched a western. The ending had a shootout (revolutionary thought, I know).
Producer: Isn't a shootout a little too... you know, John Wicky?
@joerussotweets
“My heart aches for cinema”. Why? Because established directors made a flop? There’s other fish in the sea, Joe. Go watch Green Knight, or C’mon, C’mon. Or Drive My Car, or Power of the Dog, or The Harder They Fall, or Pig, or Red Rocket, or Zola, or Riders of Justice.
Small crew. Lots of heart. Here is the making of my new short 4 GRAVES FOR XIMENA.
I edited this piece as a way to honor
@kickassvargas
and all his hard work.

Matthew Michael Carnahan directs harrowing war film MOSUL with propulsive intensity. Every death an unceremonious end; every street a deathtrap of ambushes, volatile factions, and suffering innocents; every battle a chaotic flare-up of ruthless squad tactics versus ISIL cruelty
Life After Fighting was PERFECT. Equal parts character drama and love letter to martial arts. There are montages of fighters training that is some of the most genuine and earnest cinema I’ve seen this year. It’s a film completely unafraid to lean into emotion.
I cried twice.
@JakobKolness
@Srirachachau
He sat with all the PAs on Westworld season 1. Chatting with everyone and getting their life stories. Dolling out advice.
I was young, and therefore far too nervous to say anything. A regret I’ll carry with me forever.
I’m so excited to present to you the trailer for my new short film.
@kickassvargas
did an absolutely incredible job on the choreography. I’m pumped for everyone to see his work!!

Considering his reputation, I was excited to work with
@kickassvargas
No one could have prepared me for his strict “NO LUNCH ON SET” rule . I snuck a bite of my wrap and he immediately kicked it out of my mouth.
Why is he so mean?
The audience was the best I’ve ever seen. They made me feel like a real director, not just some kid with a camera.
Thank you so much to the best P&P team since Powell and Pressburger
@JustYoungEnough
and
@PowellSundae
. Y’all showed me more love than any festival ever has.
@HIDEO_KOJIMA_EN
What I also love is the mirroring of Quaritch’s journey to Jake’s. Repeating the “Outstanding” that Jake does. Having to vlog and being uncomfortable with it (like Jake). It’s like you said, god is in the details. And it’s details like that that really make it soar for me.
@StephenSeanFord
Thi trick to these films is to forget it’s a Sherlock film. Because, as a Sherlock film, it’s abysmal. But, if you watch it as intended: Lethal Weapon in the late 1800s—then the film SOARS. It’s so funny. And you’re right—their chemistry is phenomenal
Wrapped on my new short TRAPO SUCIO: A MOFONGO WESTERN. The crew was absolutely positively amazing. The actors were the fucking beeze nees. I had so much fun directing them. And I got to pull off shots I had only dreamed of!
A neon western, coming your way soonish.
@TheL1P
Can confirm. He goes out of his way to be nice to crew. I’ve even seen him take selfies with the extras in between takes. A super gracious dude.
@ElyseHollander
Agreed. Short films are a completely different beast. I’ve always seen them as a way to show off directing, not writing. If you want to see how I write, I’ll send a feature script. If you want to see how I direct, I’ll send one of my action shorts.

I also love the sheer joy on Panos’ face. And the giggle. The true mark of a real deal director. If you’re not excited about the movie you’re making, then I won’t be excited watching it.

To quote Tarantino “BECAUSE IT’S SO MUCH FUN, JAN”
If unnecessary flips isn’t your jam, I’d recommend staying away from the prequels. And Matrix. And Raimi’s Spider-Man. And The Raid. And every Robert Rodriguez film. And Kill Bill. And Extreme Trampoline Olympics
@SamWritesMovies
I have a script to send you. It’s called CUT TO: The Journey of an Editor. The sluglines are in pink. It says CUT TO every five seconds. And I am allergic to using WE SEE because some failed screenwriter turned professor told me not to. I also needle drop every Pink Floyd song.
